At a wedding down the street, belt broke, desperate I went to the nearest men’s store, modern anthology, walk in, we have a male and female employee behind the counter talking to then same customer checking out as customers are walking around the store. I interrupt the transaction as surely one of them can help me find a belt in these desperate measures, they respond with a point that«they are over there». If you want to sell me a 99dollar western belt you need to put in a little bit of effort. #neverforgetpearlharbor

Nice ‘vintage’ store, very friendly staff but let’s be real here — this is only for the influx of yuppies who want the modern vintage aesthetic with buckets of cash and no time to hunt for these same items. I liked the selection and cohesive feel for such a small space indeed. But you can find many of these items for a fraction of the cost through some diligent Craigslist /Ebay-ing. Case in point — the carpenters workbench for nearly $ 3K — I had hunted and found one in a Jersey locale for $ 1,100. The bus destination rolls — here $ 500, online $ 150. They charge $ 6 for a god damned dice!!! I applaud a store that can make money from the time strapped /uneducated buyer but only a sucker would pay these prices!

New York is full of hidden treasures and Modern Anthology is truly one of them. While taking a walk through DUMBO a unique assortment of items in the window of MA drew me inside. Once inside I felt like I had walked into an art installation of my dreams. The space is truly beautiful, and worthy of the time it will take to appreciate all that this store offers. I normally expect outlandish prices at a place like this, but what I found was reasonable prices on amazing one of a kind items. Unlike most places of this sort, the staff was extremely helpful and very friendly. I appreciate a hello and a good bye or thank you when I visit a store. I returned a few days after my first visit and purchased a lamp. I was once again reminded how friendly, engaging and kind the staff was. I ended up shipping the lamp home which was no problem and easily accommodated. I had an email with my shipping confirmation before I even made it back to my hotel. I had an opportunity to talk to the owners of the store and their passion and excitement are clearly why Modern Anthology is so amazing!

I miss shops like Modern: Anthology — a well-curated store run by two local, friendly professionals. Plus I appreciate their help teaching guys how to prevent letting their apartments look like a bad Crate & Barrel catalogue. There are some really great decorations here, from vintage sofas to wallpaper. It’s also a great spot for gifts — I’ve picked up everything from umbrellas with a mallard handle to cool flasks for my guy friends. I’ve even picked up some great gifts for wedding presents — including matching notebooks and vintage letters. The price points vary, but I’ve usually been able to walk away with something within the range I’m targeting(it’s easy to get carried away though).

I discovered this place during the recent arts festival in DUMBO. We were walking around and checking out galleries and studios that were open to public and happened to walk by this wonderful place. Something just caught my eye. There was a huge globe by the entrance. It was old but very well kept or perhaps restored. Now If I could show you how my ideal place would look like, I’d point you to areas of this store. It’s a mix of old and new with different textures and lines. splash of odd items here and there. I want a vintage globe or five. And I want reclaimed wood with huge casters as coffee table. And I want old maps as artwork. Maybe an eames egg rocking chair too while we’re at it? Ahhhh this place was total eye candy for me. Some of their bigger pieces like the coffee table were reasonably priced. I knew for certain if I saw this in the city they would sell for twice as much. They also have smaller home items perfect as gifts, some mens shirt and bags. I’m definitely coming back for more eyecandy. Find out more about this store that is also a studio for interior design, architecture, graphic design, etc. Check out the website! P. S. their business card is of high quality. That alone impressed me. P. P. S. every 1st Thursdays they offer free design consultation.
