Why would you go to Myrtle Plaza if Chestnut is one block down? I’ll tell you why, because when you want something quickly without waiting in long lines or you want a cashier to actually look at you and greet you like a person, you go to myrtle plaza. Think of myrtle plaza as the jewish version of the well known Bodega, it’s tiny small but has anything and everything, including that pacifier that you need so urgently at 9pm for your todelr or that mouse trap you forgot to buy at the hardware store, and the list goes on and on… With only two narrow long isles the shopping experience could be somewhat awkward at times, when someone wants to pass, one of you might need to park like a smart car between two big suv’s in order so that person should fit through… But in overall this is a small nice grocery that has everything that you might need for a quick grab and the customer service is great as well.

I’m new to the neighborhood and stopped in here one day because every time I walked down the street this place looks like the 14th St Trader Joe’s with the amount of food palates and boxes and other matériel coming in and out. This is a kosher/Chasidic supermarket, and I was obv the only goy in there besides the Latino workers. There are two aisles, always crowded with the 3 – 4 children per adult that’s shopping. Nearly the whole selection is made up of Jewish brands, so unless you have an affection for certain kosher food companies, if you’re a non-kosher goyim like me, head to the fridge case on the left side, and check out the spiced chickpeas, egg salad, hummus, and other prepared foods near the checkout counter. I realize it’s probably embarassing to have the cashiers and small children staring at you for being different, but if you can suck it up, there’s good food at the community discount price.
