Just heard back from Niki, the owner, about 2 weeks after I penned my review. I learned that she is actually closed every Saturday due to religious reasons(which is completely understandable). I was under the impression that she was open because of foursquare or Unilocal(I forget honestly which app I used to locate a nearby photo place) — thanks to my previous review this has since been fixed on Unilocal,so now the days/times open are correct. Also it’s mis-categorized as a «photography store» on Unilocal so to be honest my needs probably would not have been met here as I needed a Rode mic compatible with a Canon DSLR and possibly a memory card — perhaps an edit should be made to how this place is categorized so as to not mislead anyone — but this is no fault of the owner and probably a user driven categorization. Niki also only works by appointment only anyway so I’m updating my review to reflect this — although perhaps noting that you’re closed on Saturdays on the voicemail message would be helpful as I’m sure I’m not the only potential customer who’s felt burned. I did take note that there are some positive reviews that are filtered by Unilocal… they’re also mostly 1 – 3 sentence reviews and by folks who either only have 1 review on Unilocal… ever…or have a handful of not so detailed ones… I noticed this after checking out the owner’s own Unilocal account and seeing her recent negative review of Unilocal on the Cali Unilocal business listing. She calls Unilocal a sham and notes that businesses that spend on Unilocal ads get to have«good reviews» show — I know plenty of Unilocal business owners who do not spent on Unilocal ads and have several positive reviews… but I digress, sham reviews and sham accounts get filtered by Unilocal,it’s as simple as that. I don’t think fighting a negative review with a negative review is the way to go about things. Provide fantastic services and ask people to recommend you to friends/family and on Unilocal so as to drive business is a much more satisfying and holistic way of garnering positive reviews — plus her portfolio is impressive so Unilocal reviews aren’t as important here as they would be to say… a bar or restaurant. On another note after looking at her online portfolio( ) there are some really beautiful shots full of creativity, depth and fantastic composition. Photos reflect genuine smiles and radiate warmth and joy. Kudos. Should I hear of anyone requiring a professional photog in Brooklyn I may circle back around and pass her portfolio link along :).
