Amazing local bar. Great food, good times, dancing and bartenders who know what you want!

I had the time of my life at Over the Eight. Great spot for a chill night or a special occasion. Can’t wait to return!

I’ve been here for a couple of their comedy nights which were all pretty good. The menu is limited but I am very glad they have vegan options. I tried both the quinoa black bean burger(good) and the carrot hot dog, which sounded odd but was actually pretty fantastic. The prices were fair and the comedy show is free, I’d just like to see more non-alcoholic drinks(I’m not 7, so please offer me something other than juice and soda) and a friendlier bartender. Thank you!

I went here for a comedy show recently. It was actually pretty good entertainment, surprisingly so given that it was free. The bar itself was pretty crowded, no complaints, no big compliments either. Food was okay. Just kind of middle of the road bar for my tastes, but I would consider going back for the comedy.

A bartender who is kind to comics, knows how to manage many orders at a time all the while making a spot-on Manhattan? I dig it. The ambiance(on a week day) is quiet, dimly lit, and has a few booths. There’s a bunch of floor space for the probably packed weekends too! The back room has a fairly good size room for shows and it still managed to keep the intimate feeling during the open mic too. Also if you’re hungry, the cash-only fellas with Santa Salsa in the back know how to make a mean vegan hot dog with all of the fixings. I came for the yucks but I’ll be back again for the Yucas.

Nice bar with a good dive atmosphere and cheap drinks. The jukebox was killer and the Caribbean style food kitchen ruled! I had the veggie dog

I have nothing bad to say about the bar, or the bartenders, I have everything bad to say about the Tommy Wiseau cos-player of a bar owner I dealt with last night. I walked into the bar with some friends looking to do some Sunday night karaōke, hoping to release some pent up rage that I’m now excreting on this review currently. We happened upon a short haired blonde woman sitting at the entrance waiting for what I would imagine to be our ID’s for drinking age verification. She instead formed a look on her face, something to the effect of a surprised cat, and walked to the bar. My comrades then shrugged off the weirdness and approached the bar, and ordered our drank. Through the dimly lit room came a figure, a form on which brought to mind either a fan of Crispin Glover, or a HotTopic assistant manager. This person began to pathetically explain to us that there was a wedding, and in more than 300 words he took my friends and I on a journey to the garden of passive aggressive wonder. Now reader, I know what you’re thinking, «DUDE It’s a private party, LEAVE!» «You’re the bitch of this story writing a Unilocal review» «Why are you still there, turd?» «So what?» But reader, imagine you have the human equivalent of a gothy claires bellybutton ring telling you, «I’m really sorry» «you can’t go over there» «It’s so chill» «It’s totally fine you’re here, BUT you totally shouldn’t be here» «Sorry» «I don’t know how you got in but it’s cool!» DUDE, stop being the consistency of baby powder and tell us to go is what I thought to myself. About 11 minutes into his apology-instructional lecture. He eventually left and we were finally able to enjoy our drinks in the allotted section. We took our shots, and I walked over to say goodbye to a friend in the other room, and immediately this goth-waldo was on my back crying, «but i told you bro! why?!» At that point I snapped and just told him to just tell us to leave and stop being a pussy. I left and went to a better bar called matchless. Over explantation/10 will not spend money there again. P. S. Thanks for the wedding matches.

The comedy shows there are always the best! Eric the bartender is so sweet and plays great music. I love the Santa Salsa Venezuelan Street Food. It’s such a stellar neighborhood bar full of hot young people. Get the perro con todo and a draft beer.

#Cool bar with a nice back room for #comedy shows. I #remember this place more for the dancing when it used to be #Royal Oak back in the day. Everyone used to be #wasted.

I would give this place 5 stars BUT– and this is a major BUT right here– The sunday Karaōke night is run by a 5 foot control freak little ratty bitch in the back that takes her PMS to a whole new level if you drop the mic accidentally on a karaōke song– She will CUT you like ISIS and huff and puff and stank up the place faster than you can say Monsoon wedding. My Advice hun– Chill the fuck out and don’t be so mad that you’re getting $ 5.75 an hour to DJ. Sell your laptop. ugh. 9⁄11NEVERFORGET

Although I had a good time overall when I visited on a night where Colin Quinn did stand-up(with a terrible, unfunny hipster as the opening act, but I guess that’s Williamsburg for you), I can’t give Over The Eight more than three stars due to inattentive bartending. You don’t realize what a good job the average bartender does at keeping track of who showed up at the bar and waited to have their order taken first until you’ve been to this place, where you can stand and wait several minutes when it’s not even crowded yet on a weeknight, while your bartender bumbles around and takes orders from people who just walked up seconds ago, even if you’ve ordered other drinks and are consistently tipping well. When you average out the highs and lows, I think three stars is a fair rating.

This is definitely the best bar that I’ve tried out in a long time. Met some friends here on a late Saturday night… It was busy, but not packed. Huge space(surprisingly huge!) and overly reasonable prices. Cheap beer & shots. Huge back room for dancing needs. Tunes were good. Cool and friendly staff. Good late-night crowd. Can’t say a single bad thing about it, I’ll be back soon.

this review isn’t for the overall bar, but rather for the joke of a bartender I experienced tonight. Hopefully the manager or owner sees this and can relay my message: dear female bartender with the black hair, chocker, and goth-version snooki bump-it hairdo… not sure if you’ve ever heard of this thing called personality/courtesy/respect/hospitality, but you should try it some time. I should preface all this by stating that I’ve worked in the hospitality industry personally for over a decade and her approach to this industry offended me. You’re in a ‘customer service’ role, understand that. Not only did she have zero manners, but once she made our drink she return and BARKED the total at my boyfriend. Nothing else, no customer interaction just BARKED«34DOLLARS» at him with a rude attitude as if we were inconveniencing her by ordering drinks. I understand you’re busy and the bar is packed, but be grateful. Lots of other bartenders are starving for money in the winter in NY — it’s slow season. So god forbid you have to hustle a little bit to make some cash. It’s a good problem to have, respect that. the verdict: if you go, avoid the b*tch with the black hair at the bar.

Some of the best bar food I’ve ever had. And they serve it on the heel of a skateboard. Why did that not happen sooner? And, actually, to call this«bar food» does it a disservice. It’s just great food.

Once upon a time, this was Royal Oak and it was glorious. Then Royal Oak closed and I forgot about this space until one Saturday night when a friend wanted to meet up for drinks. The front bar area looked the same, with some booths along the right side and the bar on the left. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some well priced drinks($ 8-$ 10). The bartender was very friendly and checked in on us many times. There is a newly added food vendor serving Venezuelan food that was also well priced and delicious(that part is cash only fyi). The back room contained a few tables and while we didn’t stay all night, we saw a dance party start to form and the DJ had been playing late 90’s/early 00’s hip hop all night. There was a lot of traffic all night but we never saw it get super crowded. I think I found my new dance place, and it feels good to be back!

Pretty good spot for some drinks and dancing if you’re in the area. Went here for a friend’s birthday. Cons: The location is on the inconvenient side if you’re not a local. Also, it took a bit of finding. Went in on a Saturday and they have a back room for dancing. The music seemed to progress from the 70s to the 90s, which at some points were not good dance music choices. My group was about to leave because the music wasn’t dance ready. Thankfully it changed up right before we left and we decided to stay. Pros: Super cheap drinks. Also, it gets crowded but Brooklyn crowded which is nowhere near Manhattan crowded. The back room is really great and my group was able to snag a table. Once the music was up and running, we had a great night dancing. Good place. Would come back if the location wasn’t so inconvenient for where I live.

I came here on a Friday night. That being Friday, I was expecting to be squeezing through dozens of people to get a drink. I was very wrong. This place was very spacious and I was pleasantly surprised to go in the back room where the DJ was set up. You have a lot of space to dance and let loose. It’s a great way to unwind after a stressful work week. If you are looking for any of these: Beer & Shot Specials Dance Floor in the back room 90’s music that will take you back to the best decade Cool bartenders Ample amounts of space If you answered YES to any of there. You gotta check this place out.
