I really liked this place. Close to home, cozy décor, elegant menu and affordable prices. I was waiting for an opportunity to go back, but just learned that it’s no longer in business. Yep, Pomme de Terre has, rather unexpectedly, CLOSED. You can read more at

I really liked it here. The smallish room was crowded – so much so we had a difficult time actually making it to our table. But by the end of our meal, we were practically the only people in the joint, and that was much better. Our server was a fun young woman with great personality. She helped us with some recommendations when we shared that it was our first time there. We started with the steak tartar which was perfectly seasoned and delicious. He ordered the turbo bouillabaisse and I ordered the Morroccan spiced lamb kefta, which I’d never heard of but thought was very good. We ended up swapping plates and I had more of the bouillabaisse, which I also thought was very good. We definitely enjoy the Farm more, but we’ll surely be back to this one.

Great brunch spot. Casual but very cute looking, like a small little café that can be found somewhere in a french village. Their eggs benedict are very good, although the sauce is not as buttery and tangy as i prefer it to be, it is still nice and full of flavor. I had the special today, the pumpkin pancakes, the flavor was delicious, but they were a bit on the undercooked side. The roasted potatoes are delicious, very buttery with herbs with a little bit of a kick(they must use some spice on it). Also, i believe it’s about $ 14 and comes with unlimited mimosas or orange juice which is nice. Their burgers(they serve them for brunch) are really really good, spiced to perfection! and the fries that come with the burger are hand cut and a bit salty and fried deliciously– highly recommend

I always leave Pomme de Terre feeling woozy, even if I haven’t had any alcohol; I get high on the homemade butter. This is my favorite place to have dinner. It manages to be simultaneously romantic and casual; I guess that’s a French thing. The food is always better than I remembered. The menu is seasonal, «evolving,» and often great dishes get shafted. But it’s for the best. They’re invariably replaced with something even more spectacular. I mourn the loss of the mind-blowing mushroom ravioli, but if it hadn’t been eliminated, I may never have had the pork shank osso bucco. The luscious osso bucco arrives with a sizable accompaniment of ricotta gnocchi, swimming in aromatic pork juice. I implore you to order it before it’s gone. And don’t you dare skip dessert; it would be immoral.

Went to New York for a weekend shopping trip. My wife was really looking forward to eating some good French food while in New York. Did a search on Unilocal for restaurants, and decided to try Pomme de Terre. Went there for dinner on Saturday evening and had a great time. Excellent wait staff who seated us promptly, took our drink order immediately upon seating us, and took our order within 5 minutes. Appetizer was Crispy Squid with Lemon Aioli. I had the Pan Roasted Chicken and my wife had the Grilled Skirt Steak. Steak was perfectly prepared and the chicken was wonderful. For dessert, we decided to have the chocolate pots de crème. Great meal, very affordable. The next morning, we decided to come for brunch. Again, great service by entirely different staff from the previous night. My wife had the complimentary orange juice which tasted just squeezed. I had the mimosa and also coffee. My wife ordered the crêpe with ham and Gruyère cheese. I had the sausage omelet. The meal was just as good as our dinner the night before. We certainly have found our favorite restaurant for our future trips to New York.

I love Pomme de Terre — the food is solid, the atmosphere relaxed, the staff friendly and helpful without being intrusive — what’s not to love? For the quality of the food they serve, the prices are beyond reasonable. We were a group of 4 who ordered 4 appetizers, 4 entrees, 3 desserts, and 3 bottles of wine — our total was about $ 55 a person after tax + tip! Incredible. A lovely place that I’m looking forward to revisiting.

After a long morning of Yard Sale Haggling(since when is $ 25 for a used small lamp a deal?) we had worked up an appetite and our standby, The Farm on Adderley, was predictably swamped. Pomme de Terre had always been on the radar but frequently on Sunday Funday I find myself in the«why mess with a good thing?» mindset when it comes to brunch. Being that this is from the same creators of my usual joint I don’t know what I hesitated. The menu is simple and covers glorified options of traditional breakfast fare done right. I opted for a goat cheese and mushroom omelet and the beau went for a steak and eggs combo which came with fantastic potatoes. I was enamored with the meal and the waitress actually took the time to explain how to prep some of the stuff if we made it at home. You best believe I will be back to enjoy the fruits of their labor but I got some new tricks for my(rare) kitchen fixins. The high point of the meal: they refill the mimosas. May I repeat and capitalize for emphasis: YOUGETFREEREFILLEDMIMOSAS. Our bill rounded at a grand total of $ 27.00 and we left, full, enlightened, giggly and gleeful. Sunday Funday might have a new joint…

Is there anything here that does NOT taste good! OMG everything is made to perfection. This is the second time I have been here. I fell in love the first visit with my firend’s parents. We did have reservations, but our table was not available. The owner was so apologetic, and even gave us wine, and tons of appetizers on the house and I desert I think! Everything is soooo Yum. I have had French food in the city, and yes I have had great French food in fancy places like JoJo. but something about Pomme De Terre is so special! Well for starters its in Brooklyn-in the middle of nowhere-a residential block, the staff extra friendly, the deserts are divine! Just Perfection you really have to go to see for your self. Oh and the most important thing-is that its super reasonably priced!

Housed around the corner from a bodega and next to a storefront Pentecostal Christian Spanish church — this alone makes this place truly Brooklyn and yet the meal is so French — possibly one of the best I’ve had in NYC. The boy and I wanted to try something new and finally ventured into this homey place — a spot I’ve been eyeing since working part-time on Foster Avenue. 1st course — the crispy calamari w/lemon aoli and the mussels provencale. 2nd course — me: medium rare hangar steak w/creamed spinach and fingerling potatoes. him: steak frites au poivre medium rare(duh anything more = burnt to us) dessert — cappucino, bruleed banana caramel and baked(i think?) apple w/mascarpone cream. drinks — cotes du rhone for me. and I think they were offering bottles of tempranillo at half off… service — impeccable. granted, it wasn’t very busy when we went on a Thursday night, but you can tell everyone who works in that place cares about the customers and the food. All delicious and perfect meal for a couple who doesn’t splurge too often. Am I regular now? Oh yes…

I was first introduced to Pomme de Terre by a friend who lived up the street. She had eagerly been tracking the development of the renovation, and we tried it the first chance we had, along with another friend of ours. We had a wonderful meal that night. Fantastic wine was suggested by the server, and we feasted on delicious platters of chicken, fish, and lamb. The food was fantastic, and we had a terrific time chatting with the server. Sitting at our lovely outdoor booth on Newkirk ave, we had a lovely early summer meal in a wonderful setting. I finally had a chance to return for brunch today. While very good, and a decent deal, I felt that it wasn’t as strong a meal as that dinner. Maybe my perspective is colored by the wonderful, wine-filled evening with friends, but I found my omlette a tiny bit heavy, but the mushroom and goat cheese filling was a well balanced combination of flavors. The sausages were decent, but the bacon was fabulous. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the pastry plate, but it was a bit much for two. I wish you could order the individual parts of the plate on their own, too. Still, it’s a solid option in the neighborhood, a wonderful place to bring a date or out of town visitors or your friends, and someplace I will definitely be returning to for a third trip.

Very cute place in Ditmas Park, romantic, relaxing and excellent food. Came here for pre-Valentine’s dinner and we were not disappointed ;) For appetizers, we had pissaladiere, which is anchovy pizza(southern France), the crust was a bit burnt, which gave it an interesting after taste. It was delicious! For the main course, I have trout with almond and my BF had the roasted chicken. Both dishes very good. Would recommend it if you’re in the area. We were told they also have a sister restaurant, but we forgot to ask… Perhaps next time we are in Ditmas Park, we will visit the other store :)

My husband and I live in the Ditmas Park area and have dined at PDT several times. Here’s my review based on those experiences: Favorite dishes: Steak! it’s cooked perfectly and delicious every time. Chicken liver mousse appetizer — my husband would die if they ever took it off the menu Pan-roasted chicken — juicy, tender and tasty Dessert — especially if bread pudding is on the menu! Least favorite dishes: Pork loin: not terrible just didn’t knock my socks off Croque Monsieur: Way too much meat on it, just not a wow dish Service is casual but efficient, friendly and most importantly enthusiastic. The servers love the food there and it shows. Wine and beer selection is solid and we’ve always enjoyed the staff’s recommendations. Dining room is somewhat cramped but hey it’s NYC. In warm weather there are outside tables to sit at. Décor is in my opinion a bit hokey, trying too hard to look French, but who cares? I’m there to eat not look at the walls. Brunch is very good, but a bit too expensive. Unlike dinner which I think is a great value. PS. to reviewers who called the neighborhood«dump» and«random»: That particular block isn’t so nice but the whole neighborhood isn’t bad.

Came here earlier this week to take a wonderful friend to a birthday dinner, and the experience was ace. We were seated in a comfortable area near the teeny tiny bar and were greeted soon after by our kind waitress, who gave her opinion eagerly and with a sense of humor. We couldn’t resist her recommendation of a duck confit and tomato tart for our appetizer. The duck was tender and moist, the tomato sweet and deeply flavored, and the entire thing glistening with a honey thyme vinaigrette that was as grin-inducing as the little flaky crust lying beneath. For entrees, my friend had the ginger marinated pork loin: juicy and succulent to say the least, but my heart was conquered by the whole roasted carrots and piles of beans and greens underneath. It was hearty, comforting, and warming despite the summer heat. Having fallen in love with the croque here the first time I came, I decided to get it again, and it was as buttery, hammy, and cheesy as I remembered it; so filling in fact that I ended up saving the other half for breakfast the next morning. It’s an amazing junk food that’s elevated to the height of non-guilt due to its deliciousness. For dessert, I slyly asked our waitress to put a candle in my friend’s dessert, something’s success that the chef would later ask about(to think that a chef is interested!). I had the banana caramel pot de crème, which had a scrumptiously brittle banana crown covering a caramel custard whose only fault was its short existence. My friend went with the candle-adorned pistachio cherry tart, which was as crumbly and dangerous and marzipan-y as I had remembered it to be. When the check came, it was insisted that we stay as long as we like, and I felt absolutely no pressure to leave. To think that such a gem could be inside such a dump of a neighborhood-I’ll be going again.

I was surprised to see this elegant little bistro pop up just around the corner from where I live. Before it had been your average messy bodega with a bit of roach problem. But the current owner went in, cleaned it up, dressed it up, and now is a gorgeous warm place to have some great food with very friendly service. The meat is aged at the restaurant itself and is phenomenal, it’s always juicy and very flavorful. They even make their own butter and ketchup! Which are also quite delicious, although I would like to see them invest in nicer bread. The wine is quite good and the atmosphere in very inviting. I love/live for their steak frittes. Although it’s not for a couple who are in anyway claustrophobic, the tables are all relatively close together. Definitely not an ideal place for a wheel chair either. I would call in advance and make a reservation!!! Now it seems like all the fancy diners in this neighborhood are seeing the convenience of having an exceptionally tasty bistro just down the street!

I live across the street from this quaint bistro and impatiently waited for it to open while the finishing touches were made. After having a meal there the first week of business I have been back several times and have yet to be disappointed. In a neighborhood with very few dining options it is great to have a nice place to take friends and guests. The ambiance is mellow yet cheerful. Exposed brick walls, a small espresso counter and well placed lighting make this quite tiny restaurant feel intimate but not cramped. Outdoor seating is also available. The service here has been fantastic. All the wait staff I have experienced are extremely knowledgeable about all menu items and will sincerely give you suggestions if you ask for them. In house made butter and catsup are superb. I am a vegetarian, and although the menu is slightly limited on for us non meat eaters, every dish I have had leaves my mouth watering. The mushroom ravioli is delicate, but rich in flavor. The potatoes gratin are the perfect consistency of starch and cheese. Don’t even get me started on the desserts. I literally have dreams about the banana caramel pots de crème. I always make my meat eating friends get the duck confit and each person has almost licked their plate clean. I think this means they like it a lot! The owner, Gary, is often around checking in on guests and making sure everyone has had a great experience and a great meal and actually listens to your comments. The combination of amazing food, great service, and honest to goodness caring make this place a wonderful restaurant. Even if it weren’t right across the street I’d come back again and again.

This place is very cute. The food is solid, but not jaw-dropping. Ditto the wines. Essentially, it’s a nice little bistro… tasty and appropriate for the locals, but probably not worth a long-distance trek if you happen to live in Manhattan or in any of the inner Brooklyn neighborhoods. We started with fingerling potato tart which was great — flaky crust, subtile roquefort flavor, cute presentation. The entres were only so-so, however. The skate was over-salted and the skewer of lamb and scallops was bland. The lamb was tough as well.(Note, this dish is not on the internet version of the menu, but I swear I ate it last night — perhaps it’s new and they haven’t worked the kinks out yet). On the other hand, it was a very nice place to while away a couple of hours in conversation and to sip some wine. If you’re in the area, it’s well worth checking out.

Ultra charming and beckoning with cute as a button yellow painted exterior and yellow painted wainscotting on the interior. Pommes de Terres stands out in this otherwise bland stretch of Newkirk Ave. Similar in feel to the Farm, this spot distinguishes with sharp and creative Frenchish cooking with a knowlegeable, helpful staff. I started witht he cauliflower soup with rock shrimp which was rich and velvety. Next the dry aged ribeye $ 23 with spinach and a potato gratin. The steak though perfectly cooked was boneless, a dissapointment. All desserts are $ 5, a Brooklyn bargain for sure– the pot du crème of caramel with a banana caramelized top(crème brûlée style) was killer.

If you like The Farm on Adderley, then you will certainly enjoy Pomme de Terre. It’s got the same cozy atmosphere, the same type of delightfully helpful staff, and the same kind of small, local and seasonal menu that’s sure to have something you haven’t quite tasted before. It’s a nice take on a French bistro, which is very unusual for the area, but sure to be part of the first wave of such places that will come out here several years from now. It’s safe to say, though, that Pomme de Terre will still be the best of whatever shows up for many years to come. The cauliflower soup was terrific, probably my favorite part of the meal, and my friend really enjoyed his chicken liver mousse, though there was too much in the serving for even him and his bottomless stomach to finish. I had the smoked duck sandwich, which was rich and tasty and had a small, nicely dressed salad alongside, and he had the steak frites au poivre, which was cooked perfectly to medium-rare, and had a spicy kick of Szechuan peppercorns that was mellowed by the buttery sauce and yummy fries. We had a great wine, recommended with confident authority by our server, that matched both meals just right. The desserts were not the best end-note, sadly. His banana caramel pot de crème was nice, with a crackly sugared banana top that was very clever, while my apple tarte tatin was fine, but missed the mark – when something is so simple, it really needs to be done right, and this was just a little drab. That said, the meal overall was lovely, and the price is right to return here a couple of times a year, if not more, and not even just for special occasions.

FANTASTIC, the food is great, the prices are good for the quality and creativity of the culinary dishes– The wine menu, moderately priced for the with some great French wines. I grew up 5 blocks from here, the other way from Cortelyou. My family went here for mothers day dinner, my brother who now lives in SF was in town. He moved away from the hood in 97– half way through his Escargot he looked up and said«holly crap are we inside what used to be our bodega?» Why yes we are– welcome to gentrification! even in our childhood neighborhood. the atmosphere is perfect, décor cozy as you can want. Parking in the area too. unlike the slope.
