Great temple with beautiful people. Will come back every time that I am in NYC. Thank you

I miss this place. I miss being able to walk to shul Friday night and visit grandma on the way. I miss being able to walk to a rock show Saturday night and bring my friends to visit grandma on the way. Getting old and having places and people disappear on you sucks.

I used to come here for the shows, be with friends, be happy to see the familiar faces, and of course enjoy good music. Plenty of bands played here before they really hit it/​got signed. But from what I can remember, as the crowds got rowdier they had to shut «the temple» down, and it was just. a temple. (was here for a bat mitzvah, very beautiful place)
I passed by a couple of years ago, and by the looks of it, its all torn down.

I’m not much of a worshipper. I reserve my prayers for the trees and the rocks and the moon. In fact, this is probably the only synagogue I’ve ever been to — and when I go there, I go there to pray to the God of Rock’n’Roll!
On Saturday night, the basement of the synagogue turns into… a punk music venue! Yes, you heard me. At least one Saturday out of every month, the synagogue is filled with local and regional punk heroes (some even from as far as Florida and the West Coast, stopping by on their tour of the country) and with weirdly dressed kids of all ages. There are usually 5 to 8 bands on the roster, each playing around half an hour to 45-​minute sets. Band members also sell merchandise off folding tables set up in the back of the venue. It’s a great place to come see a live show and have a chat with a few musicians.
