Great hardware store in terms of quality and selection — this place really is the rare local establishment that has pretty much everything you could walk in and ask for. Prices are pretty good. The staff is very nice and helpful as well. The downside of having an outstanding selection in a relatively small space is that R&A is a claustrophobic’s nightmare. The aisles are super narrow(the store is basically impossible to navigate if there are more than 3 – 4 people around because you’re just getting in each other’s way), the goods are stacked to the ceiling, and there’s not much discernible organization. So you essentially need the assistance of a salesman to find anything, which is a real hassle if you have more than one or two items on your list. Pintchik on Flatbush, for example, doesn’t have the same selection, but it’s a much easier shopping experience.

best hardware store I have been in! the place is kind of chaotic but the guys who work there know their stuff and are very very helpful. sometimes it takes a minute to get someone to help you, but once you have one of their attention, they are completely tuned into your request or question. I wanted to hang a load-baring shelf and they were extremely patient with my lack of even rudimentary knowledge about doing so. the owner walked me through the process with total lack of judgement, which truly assured me that I could do it myself. and I did! I would go back for any of my hardware related needs in a second!

The best hardware store I’ve been to in Brooklyn. Super helpful staff. They have a bit of everything, you just have to ask. Only critique is they are a little lacking in bulk nuts/bolts/screws selection but have small packages of most sizes. Will continue to come here all the way from Crown Heights.

Any time I’ve ever needed anything for a variety of reasons it’s always been here. They’re amazingly helpful and well priced. If you’re looking for anything for home, garden, or miscellaneous repairs, check here first. They’ll have it.

Favorite hardware store. It has a lot of stuff, they make keys and also sell everything you could ever need. A little like a junk drawer puked… super helpful guys work here that can help fix anything!

Has everything — including the grit and character that makes Brooklyn Brooklyn. Used to be we had a city full of ramshackle treasures like this. I sure hope they own their building so they will be here forever.

Victor(owner) and Johnny have helped me fix over a dozen problems in my apartment. Not only do they have a great selection for a hardware store, they’ll really help you with whatever problem you’re looking to solve, a lost art for the Home Depot… This place is great, fairly priced, and owned by great people!

This place is a national treasure. It’s got the personality of a typical Brooklyn store from the 1970’s, the expertise of This Old House and the fair dealing of Andy Grifith’s Mayberry.

Great personable staff who are extremely helpful. While they do not have the most extensive selection, it’s definitely the best place to go to for your hardware basics.

Don’t be daunted by the apperance, this is the best hardware store I’ve been in this city, and I’ve been to many. Why? Because the people who work there know all of the piles of stuff that’s in the store and they are there to help you solve problems, not just find some part. I’ve come there a few times now with strange problems, and they have always figured out how it could be done. Come to them with your needs, explain it to them and let them help you work out the problem.

This place – which has been here forever – doesn’t look like much from the outside, but it’s my favorite hardware store in the hood. The owner is a sweet, cherubic gentleman who always greets his customers warmly and provides helpful, intelligent guidance on hardware and fixit-related questions. Compared to the impossible-to-navigate, over-priced Pintchiks(where service is impossible to come by), this place is a breath of old-style, fresh air. It’s not bright, fancified, or spiffy. But you can find everything – and I mean everything – inside, including houseware supplies of all kinds. So the next time you pass this diamond in the rough, check it out, take a good look around, and keep it in mind the next time you think you need something odd, obscure or downright unfindable.
