I first walked into this gem with my dad in the early 90s. He told me he used to come there since the 70s. We moved away from the area but we make sure I go back every so often. Don’t forget the morir soñando

I’ve been eating here when I was about 4 years old, I am now 23 years old and I am happy to see this place still standing from this huge gentrification boom! Great breakfast spot. They prices are terrific for the area. If you haven’t tried a Morir Sonado yet — Go and try it and enjoy!

This place is really special. Walk in, sit in one of the stools… Order your eggs with whatever sides you desire and say«Dame un Morir soñando»… You’ll watch the cook prepare your meal right in front of you, while the MORIRSONANDO gets prepared to the side… Same way it was done the first time visited this place in the early 90’s. They make the best morir soñando I’ve ever had. I hope this place never changes… Its nostalgic and enjoyable. For my non spanish speaking Unilocalers… Morir soñando(die dreaming) is a popular beverage of the Dominican Republic which has made its way to other Hispanic countries, usually made of orange juice, milk, cane sugar, and chopped ice.[1] Sometimes vanilla extract is also added, or evaporated milk is used instead of regular milk. The recipe varies greatly depending on the region and family heritage. American observers have described the drink as resembling a Creamsicle.

A neighborhood staple that has fed several generations for many years. It’s not uncommon to see a grandfather with his son and grandchildren sitting on a stool sipping on a morir sonando & shoveling down papas y huevos Fritos. This is the kind of spot where they already know your order. The staff is hard working and incredibly funny/friendly. The food is inexpensive and gets the job done. I hope Reben never leaves Havemeyer street… everything about it feels like the old New York
