I got severe food poisoning from this restaurant. I called the restaurant and spoke with the owner. He said«call the health dept». I also said I’m going to post this on Unilocal and he replied«go ahead, nobody reads that sh#%!». Horrible place, beware.

Worst Chinese food ever. Rice was bland and duck was overcooked and came without sauce. Unapologetic management made this a never again experience.

This take away was disgusting and unedible! Greasy low budget food which had no taste apart from grease. The duck i ordered had no duck on it. The beef and brocoli dish was overcooked and tasted of rubber and the sweet and sour chicken i ordered was deep fried balls of chicken in a box and sweet and sour sauce in other box! Gross! I actually asked for a refund as it was so horrible and uneatable and i was put the phone down on and refused! if you like greasy cheap budget food then this is place for you. If you know about good food then DONOT go to this take — away!!!

I wish I could give them zero stars. Truly disgusting business. Sent the wrong food for delivery & demanded we give them back the incorrect item. That’s fine, except my boyfriend & I each ate one of the pieces as we mutually realized it was not the food item we ordered. The disappointment and horrific customer service continued as they brought the updated order back to us, cold, thrown into a big brown paper bag with no wrapping, tasting as if it was made days before. After they took the incorrect item back, they called my boyfriend and basically harassed him over the phone about how there should be more pieces, as he politely explained that we each ate one before we realized their error. I really hope they weren’t planning on giving that food to someone else, so foul. Don’t order from here unless you want to be treated like dirt, and for your food to be treated even worse. They should be ashamed of themselves for existing.

I’ve never written a review before. I had to write this because this meal was the worst I’ve had delivered in NYC in years and I want to save potential diners their time and money. The general tsos tofu was basically fried air with sugar sauce — no tofu to be found inside each square. The scallion pancakes were gummy and dry. The fried vegetable dumplings were thick, tasteless, stuffed with just a pinch of carrots and cabbage. There was a long thick hair in my broccoli. I write this not to screw over the restaurant, but in the hopes that they read this and learn. I wish them the best of luck and hope they are able to refurbish their menu and ingredients and serve and deliver meals they can be proud of.

I ordered food from here and it took much longer to arrive than it indicated on seamless. Then when it finally arrived, the delivery person called me and asked me to come outside and get my order. Very unprofessional. When you order food you expect it to be delivered to your door.

I got food poisoning from here. DONOTORDER: –ma po tofu –chicken fried rice –edamame –scallion pancake –or diet coke?!! sure. However, delivery was prompt, so if you have priorities and are a complete masochist, there is that.

The food is terrible here. Also the way their customer service make me wonder a lot! I order my lunch combo and it was suppose to come with a free can of soda, They forgot to deliver it to me, and I call and told them about it! The person who pick up the phone told me they would not deliver it to me and I’ll get my soda for the next deliver… WTF!!! I deserve to have my soda in that time and not some other time!

I have grown tired of the Chinese food offerings that are literally a block away from me. After a quick search on GrubHub, I found Red House. The first dish I ordered was the Kung Pao chicken and my fiancé ordered their fried rice with an order of the sugar donuts for dessert. The kung pao chicken was awesome and it was piping hot when it arrived! The sugar donuts have become one of our favorite guilty pleasures. they also come hot and fluffy– and for $ 3, they are a serious bargain. Since that initial order, I have had some misses(im looking at you walnut shrimp!) and some serious wins! Chow Mei Fun, chicken with garlic sauce, hunan beef, shrimp with broccoli, etc. All winners! Since discovering this place, we have opted to order Chinese at least once per week– I try something new every week and there have been more successes than failures. A very good, cheap, and reliable Chinese food option for the area!

Red House how I love thee! Ridiculously great value. My favorite food item in the word is crab rangoons and a delicious order here is a mere $ 4! Lunch and dinner specials are huge for a great price. Food is on par for this style /type of restaurant. The dumplings are just not good though, and for some reason always cold. I can’t imagine I’ll ever give up my once a week ritual.

Desperate and hungry with only a few bucks in my pocket I ran into this place. I ordered scallion pancakes here and a combo that came with an egg drop soup. After I ordered the scallion pancakes, the cook went straight to the freezer. I’ve never had a bad experience with scallion pancakes, and this was my first. After the first bite I decided to throw the whole thing out. They were horrible. The combo box was okay but I definitely have had better, and the egg drop soup that came with it was very disappointing. It wasn’t even yellow, it was grey. Luckily the cashier was nice and let me trade it for a can of soda. I am never coming here again, please learn from my mistake.

Don’t eat here. I even read reviews on here before I ate there, saw that bad ones, and went anyway. My mistake. Take my word for it and don’t eat here. I couldn’t even finish it. The dumplings were pasty with awful texture, no flavor. The wonton soup is bland. I got a shrimp roll and rangoons that were ok, but I guess it’s kinda hard to mess those up. Anyway, won’t be going back. Gotta find my dumplings elsewhere.

The red house is undoubtedly run by real legit Chinese people. The food is made twice as quick, half the price and half the quality. When you place an order for three dishes and a side appetizer and a place takes thirty minutes from phone call to delivery… That’s fast. Unfortunately all the food was undercooked. The fried wings weren’t even crispy, skin still soggy. The fried rice had no flavor nor did they look like anything but yellow rice with some shrimp thrown in. Our eggplant was under cooked as well… The beef and scallion was… You guessed it! Undercooked! Listen I understand this is a takeout joint, but still no one should screw up the classic staple of wings and fried rice. Everything was a little cheaper than east meet West but the drop in quality is just unacceptable. I’m not sure if this is there usual standard or perhaps they were squeezing a few extra bucks on a snowday… Either way I would avoid this Red House of hastily cooked Chinese food.

The Red House storefront leaves… everything to be desired, so I’m going to stick with takeout after my last pick-up experience. But the food is still awesome and cheap andd… they got an A on their health code rating! WIN.

Delivery takes forever and when u get your food there’s items missing. Also the prices keep changing. Will not be ordering there again.

Let’s be honest, we’re ordering this food for delivery. I’ve tried MANY chinese restaurants in the area and this is the best General Tsao’s I could as for(not to mention the crab rangoons that come with that combo!). Their service is consistent… AKA order 45 minutes to an hour before you know you’ll be craving deliciousness. I’m not sure if I should be proud that they know who I am now. Give it a shot at LEAST.

«It’s in the neighborhood, surely it can’t be that bad!» Wrong! Had my wonton soup and chicken broccoli pick-up so of course I didn’t realize how much bang I did not get for my seven bucks until I was safely within my own living space. My items were all super-salty, a sure sign that something is amiss in the kitchen. Generally, I’d suggest a really bad Americanized Chinese chain before this. I won’t be back.

If you like your Chinese food with irony. The meat and egg rolls were ok but the downfall was the sauce. Like most Brooklyn Chinese junkfood the sauce on my General Tao’s Chicken was a sugar jelly. Americanized delivery Chinese food. I was at a friend’s place. Lucky I don’t live there. Not even really worth rating but I thought I would continue a streak of bad restaurant bashing. 2 stars…1 for being food, 1 for«come on, what did you expect».

After basically living off of Thai food for the last ten months that I’ve lived in Greenpoint, I happened to read a review of a Chinese restaurant while cruising Unilocal and was like, Whoa! Takeout Chinese! What an idea! Remember when Chinese food and pizza were the only things you could have delivered? How the times have changed. Anyway, I decided that some sort of sauce-drenched fried chicken and a side of steamed dumplings was in fact exactly what I needed to eat for dinner. We have five or six assorted Chinese menus, all unused, floating around our apartment. How to choose? I don’t know what drew me to the Red House menu; perhaps the fact that it DIDN’T feature pictures of its specials? The slightly cheaper prices? In any case, for two people we ended up ordering the steamed veggie dumplings, Kung Po chicken(conspicuously missing the ‘a’, although Wikipedia tells me that’s actually acceptable), and an order of broccoli in garlic sauce. I forget to mention that I wanted the SMALL order of broccoli, and of course I was given the large by default, as if the woman who took my order couldn’t have been bothered to ask. Nearly an hour later(ok, to be fair it might not have been that long. I was hungry), I got a phone call telling me they’re outside with my food. It shouldn’t bother me that they didn’t just ring the buzzer like EVERYOTHER delivery place, but it did, because I was hungry. Apparently they had changed their prices. Everything we ordered was about a dollar more than what their menu had said. I guess that’s not really their fault since we had probably picked it up several months earlier, but it sure didn’t add to the experience. Now, the food itself. I’m pretty easy to please. If the food is good, I’m willing to pay for it without complaining and I’m also willing to put up with slow or rude service. Unfortunately, the food was not good. Really, just not good at all. In fact everything was pretty astoundingly bad. I actually thought at first, that perhaps Kung Po chicken was Kung Pao’s bland cousin. It was in some sort of nondescript sauce and surrounded by tons of mealy little cubed carrots and celery. I like a lot of veggies in my meat dishes, but this was just ridiculous. It was like 4 parts veggies to 1 part chicken. A couple(literally, a couple) of bamboo shoots and baby corns did nothing to save it. Steamed veggie dumplings equally dismal. The broccoli was good, because all steamed broccoli is good. However the ‘garlic sauce’ was no such thing as far as I could tell; garlic is a pretty distinguishable flavor. A little bit goes a long way. I really do not think there was any garlic in this sauce at all. I tossed out both the old menu that I’d ordered from and the new one with higher prices that they brought with. Ugh. That’s what I get for taking my chances without consulting Unilocal first!

Time to send Red House to the dog house. Quality down, delivery time now stretching to an hour and 15 minutes, plus a hilariously rude woman on the phone. Sodas warm, food getting cold. And my chicken with pea pods had nothing green in the mix at all. Kind of a shame, because the fried dumplings were excellent, even if the sauce came dumped all over them.
