Refinery

Love this little shop which always has a nicely curated selection of shoes, jewelry, bags, etc. I specifically go there for their Sven sandals and end up getting a new pair each season. The nice part about that is you can order any color and style of Sven that you want through Refinery and they’ll place the order from the manufacturer for you. Sales staff are always friendly and helpful. Definitely a great little neighborhood gem.

after finding some beautiful sven clogs i loved in here i figured i would order them online since they didn’t have them in my size in the store and i live in california. but lo and behold navigating the online world of sven clogs is challenging – all the sven clogs retail websites are insanely difficult to navigate. so i had the owner of the refinery custom order my clogs for me in my size AND ship them out to me in berkeley! they arrived pristine and perfect this week!

Her bag with the three outer (and three inner!) pockets is my «go-​to» carry on bag for long haul trips. Easy to organize, nice wide straps for carrying and one magnetic button holds it all in place. They are made with zippers now, though, boo, I bought mine AGES ago.
Stopped in on Saturday to FINALLY by the Sven boots I’ve been eyeing in her window. Luckily, they were the perfect size so I didn’t need to order them. I’m all about instant gratification. Want, want, buy!

I LOVE Refinery. They have a great selection of cool handmade purses/​pouches, quirky jewelry, unique stuffed animals and beautiful Sven clogs. Prices are fair and the customer service is great (I think it’s usually the owner that is working and she is super sweet). I have purchased many a gift here and today I treated myself to a pair of clogs. Another thing I like is that if they don’t have what you are looking for (bag in a certain fabric, size of shoe etc) they will custom make or order if for you. Overall a great little shop and pleasant shopping experience.

Not sure how many stars to give this place. Some of the stuff in the Refinery is really cute, but — buy with caution here– especially gifts.

This owner is nice when you buy, but not so much if a gift purchased needs to be returned for a refund. The clerks are sweet, but cannot make any decisions at all– even if your gift doesn’t fit. :(
The best way to gauge the quality of a business is when there is a problem with their merchandise, NOT how nicely they accept your money at the time of the purchase.
Not everyone wants a store credit in such a limited shop– that policy should be posted and mentioned beforehand!
If you are interested in clogs, ordering from
is a much wiser option, since they stand behind their product, and you can return or exchange your purchase if the ‘hand crafted’ shoes do not fit.
PS What good is it to force somebody to take a store credit in your shop– if you’ll lose a customer from then on??? Not smart at all.

I absolutely adored this shop! Walking in felt like entering a calm and soothing environment, which is a relief considering most shopping experiences these days and the hectic and chaotic streets of Brooklyn just outside it’s door. Inside, it was quite with mellow music playing, but even the items sold had a calming effect. Art pieces along the walls in lovely colors and designs. Bags of vibrancy and multi-​shaped for all sorts of use. And jewelry, and more. So much of it a feast for the eye to look at these lovelies. I only purchased a little bag, which I regarded as a pen/​pencil bag since it was all I could really afford ($ 20), but it was lovely in it’s handmade glory. I gave it as a gift to a friend who is a student teacher at UCLA and she just adores it. I call it the «fashionable pencil case». I’m not sure if she was the owner or not, but the lady at the register was super nice and wrapped it all up while we chatted about what I can’t recall. Great shop for some unique gifts for yourself or others.

The owner is still super nice (YAY!) when I popped in to inquire about my Sven clog that had popped a strap she offered the suggestion of a shoe repair place. (I ended up going to a guy in my neighborhood) She said if her show guy couldn’t help me to come back and she would contact sven.
There were some nice new looking sven clogs I may have to return…
