The food is good but every six months or so they raise the prices which is why I demoted they’re rating; and also because whenever I order oxtails its like 60 percent sauce 40% oxtail and then the oxtail has almost no meat on it.

Not bad. I’ve been going to this restaurant for many years. Somedays I really enjoy the food and other days, not at all. The staff is always friendly and the smell of the bread and pastries from the bakery is always pleasant. Essentially, the food here is a hit/miss, but I never seem to mind because when the food taste good, it’s really good! I’ll be back.

This restaurant serves mainly Caribbean food. Their food is ok. They were advertising that they were serving Guyanese Chinese, so one day I stopped by and ordered some. Let me just say that was no Guyanese Chinese. The chicken was not very tasty. On the window they got an A rating from the health department. Honestly they deserve a C rating because it’s not the cleanliness restaurant, not to mention some of the workers weren’t wearing hair nets when serving food, that’s gross. Some of their other food are good but I wouldn’t recommend eating here unless you want too.

Felt enticed by the kind man as I entered the restaurant because I saw the lunch special advertised on the chalk board sitting outside. Lol why didn’t I just stick to the basics… I.e. the special jerk chicken rice peas. I ended up ordering a shrimp Roti. As I looked as the steam table some man possibly the owner bragged on the dishes. Hmmm I think ok I will got a shrimp roti. Then I added on a chicken patty which was dry and a tropical rhythm sorrel ginger drink. That was the saving grace. The shrimp roti had hardly any shrimp but lots of salt and one big potato. It was unbearable. I forced myself to eat the shrimp because that is what I paid for. My bill was $ 13.06 never again So lesson learned stay away when hungry and stick to the basics or order pizza and call it a day.

While they have some great Caribbean food and delicious fresh baked bread, this restaurant is what gives Black people a bad name! YOUARE A BAKERY! Why in the cotton pickin hell do you not have bread fresh baked and ready for the customers from early in the morning??? I called this morning(just like many mornings) to hear that we have to wait til 1 for the bread to be ready. You call at 1 and they tell you 3. You call at 3 and it’s still not ready. This place is UNPROFESSIONAL! The only explanation for this is utter laziness and lack of business acumen. Which bakery other than these fools does this lazy ass n****r shit! They get away with it because they are the only ones in the neighborhood. But my lord am I waiting for a rival because I CANNOTUNDERSTAND how a BAKERY does NOTHAVEBREADREADYINTHEMORNING! Are you kidding??? No they are not. Get yourself together Roti On The Run – your baker should be in the shop at 5am and bread ready to eat for whenever the hell you open! You don’t get to just come in and bake bread at your leisure. YOUARE A BUSINESSTHATSERVESCUSTOMERSOUTSIDEOFYOURFAMILYANDFRIENDS! You would have gotten 5 stars for great food, but you get 2 stars for how ridiculously unprofessional and clearly lazy in your business style. GETITTOGETHER! Otherwise I am going to find another bakery and put up signs all around town telling people I will deliver fresh bread to them since YOUCLEARLYCAN’T. Also, if I come there again when I walked 10 blocks to get to you for bread and there’s no bread, I am going to raise bloody hell! I WANTMYBREAD!!! BAKETHEDAMNBREADFROMEARLYINTHEMORNING!!! WTHISWRONGWITHYOU!!!

I used to love coming to this place. Food was always on point and delicious. Past couple of years the place has fell off. Multiple times the food has either been cold(and I don’t mean not warm, but actually cold), food unseasoned or just right out bad. Their price in food has gone up as well. To bad, this was a great place.

I Love This Place!!! Everything from the friendly wait-staff to the freshly made baked goods. I love that the roti is freshly made ANDNOT reheated. I read many negative reviews and I find many to be unfair. This is a good spot and being the only spot around, I for one am glad it’s here. Ive been coming here for years and will continue to do so. My stew-chicken roti is phenomenal. My pine tarts are OMG!!! And the butter bread WOW. Not a fan of curry anything, goat or pig, so i’m glad my stew chicken is always there.

They just lost a customer! Waited an hour for my food and no delivery. Call to inquire and they have me on hold for 5min before hanging up on me(the whole time I can hear them conducting business as usual). I call back and they hang up on me again. Call the third and final time and they try and rush me off the phone saying the delivery person is leaving now! Thanks but no thanks. I no longer need your services! You do not know how to run a business. And they are only getting 1 star because that’s as low as you can go smh

For the only West Indian restaurant in the area it’s sure sending a bad message to the people about West Indian food it’s horrible, not tasty. I went there to try the Chines food since I know the Indian food would be bad. To my surprise the Chines food was nasty as well. The rice had no tasty and the chicken was fry from the early morning and probably just drop in hot oil to reheat when needed to sell. After 15 minz the chicken got hard like a rock and don’t tasty good at all. For what it’s worth pleAse close that place or only keep the bakery part open stop selling food, you selling and people are spending money …

I’m sorry to say that I was not please at all :(. My cousin likes to stop by this particular restaurant for a quick meal so I decided to try it. I don’t particularly care for the location or the food :(. I had the curry chicken(bone in) roti, pholourie, and buns. The buns were good and freshly made on premises. The curry chicken — two thumbs down! It was… ummm…just not good. That’s it. Don’t order it. At all. The pholourie — smh mm mm… no ma’am. The homemade rolls — two thumbs up! Although I will not return to this restaurant… please feel fee to try it if you wish. I’m giving it two stars: one for their kindness and one for the homemade rolls. That’s it.

Just based on the reviews I went with what I thought might work for me. As an awesome cook(I’m modest, or nah? Lol), being part Trini, and having tried many other places that sell roti, this place is my least favorite. Don’t get me wrong, it was edible. In another review, someone complained about the chicken tasting like geera… not a good look. Plus it looked like it barely had curry in it. The goat, same thing. They did however have boneless chicken, which normally I opt for anyway. Plus it looked like it had been cooked with curry. I also got an aloo pie and Kurma(snack attack)… First things first, BAD idea to use chicken breast. They should have used boneless chicken thighs. It would come out much more tender and probably cost less to use.(Everything cost me 12 bucks). Secondly, the aloo pie was okay… The pepper sauce added was NOT spicy, to me at least. It was fresh. Lastly, the dahl pori was NOT fresh. It was dry, tough and oily. I would’ve expected that texture more so when eating buss up. It was not light like dahl pori usually is. I would’ve expect my nose to be runny and having to drink tons of water when eating this, but I was the least bit enthused(yup I like my food that spicy). The woman behind the counter was very nice and I loved seeing snacks such as chocolate digestive, catch and others that I haven’t seen in a long time. Ahhh nostalgia… but that’s where anything positive ends for me. Doubt I’ll be eating there again.

Squeeze into the front booth of this Cypress HIlls eatery — it’s usually half-filled with delivery supplies, so it’s rarely occupied — for the most authentic Guyanese experience in New York.(Although apparently the kitchen is staffed by a mixture of Guyanese and Trinidadians.) The roti, filled with curry chicken, stewed chicken, spicy shrimp or beef is pretty damn close to what they serve in the jungle-filled country on the top of South America. At $ 7, the price is pretty similar as well. This type of riot is just meat inside of a thing crumbling piece of bread folded like origami, but when prepared correctly it’s a thing to behold. On occasional visits over the past two years(this is quite far on the J train) all of the other customers have been Soca, with sing-songy accents and very specific instructions to make sure the meals recreate the homeland. In addition to the rotis, there are also Trini-Style doubles(spicy chickpeas in dough) along with meat plates, a changing variety of stews and extensive sweets prepared in the bakery out back. All are recommended and deserve to be savored over the free copies of the Kaieteur News(also available at the half-stuffed front table). (Recent the shop has launched a Guyanese Chinese menu. It’s a faithful creation of the greasy, sugar-filled stir frys that are available in middle to high class restaurants around Georgetown. This is only Chinese food available for hundreds of miles in the mother country — but thankfully we have better options and this new venture is best avoided.)

I’ve passed this place a million times but I finally stopped in for lunch. I was happy to see that they had so many vegetarian and vegan options(mostly veggies on the hot bar) and to find that the food is very affordable. I went with a mixed veggie platter with roti, which came with okra, spinach, potatoes, yuca, chickpeas, and lentils — all for $ 8! I also got a double($ 1!) and an aloo(potato) pie for $ 1.50 to go. These made for a great snack later, although I probably should’ve eaten these fresh and ate the hot food later. The actual quality of the food is probably worth 3 stars, but given the VERY limited non-pizza, non-fried chicken, non-burger options in the neighborhood, and given they’re one of the only local places that actually serves a variety of vegetables, I’m giving them 4 stars.

I’ve worked in Cypress Hills for years. Passed by this place hundreds of times since they opened up. I always liked the look of the place but never had the urge to go in because of my experience the first time trying Roti with this friend of mine from Saint Vincent maybe 25 years ago(believe it or not). Back then my friend and I worked in Brownsville. I was giving them a ride home one day and we passed by this hole in the wall were they asked me to stop so they could buy themselves a Roti for dinner and asked if I was hungry and if I would like one. I had never seen or tasted a Roti before. I asked and was told that a Roti was homemade flat bread that you get a choice of beef, chicken, fish or goat meat. When she said that I said oh it must be just like a shawirma sandwich or gyro. To be on the safe side I ordered chicken. By the time the lady behind the counter took them out of the freezer(that’s right damn it! they were frozen), threw them into the microwave(and how did you expect her to defrost and heat the damn things), gave them to my friend and she got into the car I was bursting with anticipation. I peeled back the aluminum foil they used to wrap the Roti and honestly it looked good. I got ready and took a big stiff bite and probably just about, broke half the teeth in my mouth. Obviously my suggestion that this was probably like a shawirma sandwich or a gyro sandwich was lost on my Vincie friend because she didn’t see fit(or had never had a shawirma sandwich before) to explain to me that this wasn’t a sandwich or, for you yuppies, a wrap as we know them to be today but, in my case chicken stew with the bones and all just placed in the thick bread and wrapped up. For Pete’s sake she was eating hers with a fork. Either way my friend G 25 years later was riding with me as we past the Roti shop and wanted to stop in. When I walked in, the inside was as nice as the outside and I was pleased that my assumptions all those years were correct that it looked like a descent place. They had an open steam table with the usual West Indian fair. Goat stew, beef stew, curry chicken with or without bones(now they tell me) jerk chicken and the usual sides for a Guyanese joint veggie low mien, veggie rice, rice with peas, egg fried in cassava, fried banana and such. Another thing my Vincie friend forgot to mention was that I could have gotten my stew in a plate like all other West Indian restaurants or in nice freshly backed Roti. I ordered beef stew and low mien and had a piece of fudge(which had nothing to do with fudge or chocolate). Except for the clear your nose burn factor of the curry stew I enjoyed my meal, definitely would recommend to friends and would go back. But I got to tell you the only thing that did kind of upset me was that they had a sign on the door that stated they served Halal dishes and they had a poster of with Quranic prayers and a picture of Mecca which I thought was great until I asked the girl behind the counter if they were Muslim which a good portion of Guyanese people are. She looked like she got busted stealing my car radio and started looking towards the other guy to save her. If you’re not Muslim you should try to conceal it, it made me wonder if anything there was actually halal, which wasn’t an issue except for the fact that they went out of their way to make them look official.

Ok so I came in here about 1 pm with my mother. She wanted to know if they make the dhal poori with whole wheat flour by request as another roti shop as done for her in the past. They said yes but they would need about ½ hour notice. No problem About 4pm she called to order 1 dhal poori to be made with the whole wheat flour. I got there ½ hour later. The lady knew exactly why I was there. I waited 10 more minutes until the dhal poori was bagged and my order of jerk chicken with fried rice was packed. The chef had made 2 dhal poori instead of 1. I took it because I know it won’t be sold very quickly. My mother didn’t like that fact when I got home and told her. The jerk chicken was very spicy and tasty. It was also very moist. For $ 6, I got a good amount of vegetable fired rice(West-Indian Style) with celery, peas, carrots, and big pieces of red bell pepper. There was a drumstick, thigh and another small piece of chicken. All for $ 6. The total was eleven which included the dhal poori. The dhal poori was soft and tasty too.
