I called to make an appointment … They don’t «do appointments»(walk-ins only) and they don’t «do weave» … ya kidding me? NEXT!

+1. Cheap as balls +1. My hair looked decent +1. The owner was nice enough +1. they have big tvs that you can watch movies on. –1. They reuse brushes on many people without washing them first. GROSS. –1. It’s like a factory and the woman doing my hair barely even said a word to me the whole time. –1. the curlers have visible hair(not mine) and dirt on them. Basically if you are on a shoestring budget as I am then you will fore go somethings such as brush cleanliness for getting your hair done for cheap. Although the whole time you are in the chair you will be pondering whether or not they will hate you if you bring in your own brushes and curlers. All in all not bad and I have not gotten lice so far.

My hairdresser is in DR for the next two weeks and I needed to get the do done. I decided to give this place a try based on the reviews. Let me start by saying this; I DONOT have straight hair. I have shoulder length thick, coarse hair and need a relaxer every 8 to 10 weeks. When it rains I’m ducking for cover… you get the picture. Needless to say, I needed to be sure that not only would I get a good wash with quality products, I also need a MEAN blower after my rollers. I did get the good wash but the blower was MEH. The owner, Shelly took care of me. I checked out her website beforehand and was pleased to see that she uses the products I do: Alter Ego. She was very accommodating and worked quickly. Now the blow dry: I noticed as she did my rollers she took pretty large sections of hair to roll. I didn’t think much of it at first. I figured she would just get busy with the blow dryer. She applied heat to the roots to straighten it out but only around the sections of the hair the roller was in. I noticed when I got home that since she did not PART the sections, it was pretty wavy and thick in there. Now, I will be fair and say that I’m about two and a half weeks away from needing a relaxer but I have left my regular spot with roots so smooth you think I had a relaxer. Funny enough despite this, I would return to Shelly’s. I know that if I guided her she would give me exactly what I want. She creates that type of environment for her clients. My Dominican hairdresser is in the Bronx and I would really like to keep it in my home borough(BK to the FULLEST) but I can’t say I’m ready to make a commitment to Shelly’s. It is a good back up spot should I not want to make the trip to the BX.

I love Shelly’s! I live in Bed Stuy and was looking for a place that was professional and could do a perm or a blow out. Shelly’s has both African-American and Latina clients and do most styles. They are great at wraps and have high quality products like Moroccan Oil. Yvonne does my hair and always does an amazing job. I highly recommend her! I also like that they take credit cards which most hair shops in the area don’t do. Stylists are always friendly and you’ll be in and out quickly even when it’s busy.

I love it here! So much so that I haul my derrière all the way from jersey to go to this place. It’s so worth it! I get a Motions perm, wash, set and blow out all for $ 40! Best of all they’re fast and efficient. Other places I’ve frequented charge you extra for a blow out and take forever to do your hair. They’re nice, friendly, down to earth and they know hair. I’ve been going here for about 4 years now and I’ve never been disappointed.

Shelly’s has definitely upgraded their salon since I first started coming here. They offer a wide array of hair products including Mizani, Kera Care, and Motions. Mizani perm, roller wrap, and trim came to about $ 58 this past Saturday. You definitely have to direct them as to which products work best for your hair though. Otherwise, I’m a fan.
