1st time customer, will return again. We had a garden salad which was real good. Harcho soup was spicy w/beef, better than at most places. Salmon was as well good, and chicken tabaka too. Beef stew portion was good for 4. It’s a good place medium priced deserving of 4 stars.

I was born in Tyumen, Russia. Came to States 20 some years ago. Even though I do miss my birthplace at times, places like this restaurant make me not want to even look back. My husband is more into Russian theme, so he brought me to this restaurant after reading reviews. The older gentleman walked up to us, looked at us from top to bottom and after that, his face gave him away, he wasn’t going to sit us. I already had it happen to me once in Moldova, «did not pass face control». That is so funny to me. These people still live in the 1980s, where they judge each other based on the appearance. And I mean, if you don’t look«Russian»,(high heels and leather jacket), or should I say«village Ukrainian», apparently you are not worthy of this crappy place. Hey, there are many other much better places where I can leave my dollars. Pleasant restaurant experience includes pleasant attitude from people who work there. Now we were visiting New York, and were dressed as American tourists. It was lunch time and restaurant was half empty. The guy did not even let us put our name down on a waiting list. Hello?! This is not an upscale five star restaurant, neither is the location, nor, I am sure, is the food. I don’t see a reason to «dress up» when you are eating under the subway bridge. So glad we did not eat there! In fact we ate at Ocean View Café and the food there was delicious.

Just like all restaurants in Brighton, this one caters to the traditional Russian taste and atmosphere. We had the blini and caviar with our Russian Standard(vodka) toast. The caviar was a bit dry — not very fresh but otherwise pretty good. Traditional Siberian pelmeni was pretty good — not too garlicky. My mother had roast hen and mashed potatoes. A rather large portion that would likely feed two. The chicken was perhaps undercooked because she didn’t like it, though our server didn’t seem to care very much. Great Russian vodka selection, good atmosphere, but average food.

Have to say, amazing place for feel-good, delicious Russian restaurant sit-down dinner. Skovorodka means Frying Pan in Russian. Very cute and quaint ambiance, like you’re at your babushka’s(Russian grandma) house. All the Russian faves– salads, cold appetizers, pickled veggies, pan-fried potatoes with mushrooms, hot platters(fish and chicken)…and a great dessert assortment(Napoleon, apple strudel, crepes) to top it all off. We came here for my Mom’s birthday dinner. Mind you, we’re all Russian and know what GOOD Russian food is. I recommend it highly, esp. if you’re NOT Russian, you’ll be pleasantly surprised :)

Came here on a very cold Saturday w/my friends who are novices at Russian Cuisine. We didn’t have a reservation so we had to wait around 5 minutes for a table during peak time which is not bad at all. Service was a little subdued but I think it was because of the language barrier. I ordered the Beef Stroganoff which is always my standby dish when I go to an East European place that has it on the menu with the kasha(buckwheat). It was really delicious and the servings were huge. My bf and I shared the cold herring and potatoes appetizer and other people at the table ordered potato varenikis and cheese blintzes for their apps. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience but 1 star off because we didn’t get offered the vodka shots that other Russian places offer you at either the start or the end of your meal.

Meu deus!

I’m used to Baltimore Russian restaurants, and this place is solid, in my opinion. The selection is generous, with plenty of authentic Soviet options. A few American options like Cesar Salad are also available. I wish the Russians waiters would provide a service with a smile. Unfortunately, it is not a custom for Russians to smile at strangers, but the managers of restaurants can do training on this. The manager should also train the waiters how to make recommendations. My waiter was not very helpful. The service was good otherwise. Some of the items seemed to be a little overpriced. Maybe that’s to be expected since it’s a prime location and interior décor is pleasant. Most of the pricing was within reason. I could not believe they don’t have chicken Kiev! How could such a popular dish be off the menu? Maybe I’m asking for too much here. Overall we had a good experience, and I would recommend this place for out of towners looking for authentic Russian dining in the heart of Brighton Beach.

Food is amazing. Amazing. From two Ukrainian girls who have decided to explore Brighton Beach we could not ask for better food experience to take us back home. The lunch is huge for price they ask. You start with different Russian/Ukrainian salads. The portion is really generous. We have ordered olivie and it was not disappointment. After borsch was ordered which was really filling. And for the third course we have tried pelmeni and kotleti. Another great choice and really authentic as it is served with sour cream and bread.

Are servers traditionally this rude in Russia/Ukraine? Because, here in the good ol’ US of A, they work for a graded payment system we call«tips». After being ignored by multiple employees at the front of the restaurant, the young man who walked us to the table placed the menus on a table and BUMPED into us as he rudely walked back to the front. I kid you not. No apologies, no acknowledgement of any sorts. The service did not improve from there. And as you, my fine Unilocaling friends, may know, service can make or break the quality of any food. I shouldn’t even have to say that the borsht was mediocre, and that the appetizer shared was an overpriced cheese quesadilla. Good thing we didn’t order more. What’s worse is that both I and my dining companion are Russian-born, and we spoke our native tongue at Skovorodka. What their deal was with the embarrassingly bad service is beyond me!

Looking for a Russian adventure? Get involved here! Live music by Donald trump’s preferred saxophonist(how he was introduced). Vodka by the caraf of unnatural potency. A severe proprietor called Boris, who softens to embracing you as part of his wider family by the end of the meal. Loved the whole 360. Especially the 70s décor. The food was really very good — a spiced borscht alive with purple and dill. A huge creamy, rich beef stroganoff with perfect mash potato. We left full of Russian bonhomie!

I’ve been here on and off over the years and vaguely remember it as being more of a café 10 years ago. I went there with a friend after a day at the beach. We were greeted by a friendly, if tired looking, waiter. He became friendlier when I asked to be seated for dinner… in Russian.(Sorry, folks, the stereotype is true. It’s always better to go with a native speaker in Brighton.) It was a nice day so the restaurant was packed with random tourists and a large-ish banquet party. There were only two waiter serving all the diners so it took 15 minutes for us to get our obligatory bread and butter, and another 20 minutes to get our food. The kitchen must have been slammed b/c of the banquet party. It is what it is. At least we got our cold Baltika beers quickly. I ordered their Brizol, a beef hash omelet with pan roasted potatoes. My friend ordered their beef stew. What to say, the potatoes were easily the best part of the meal. It seems like they were cooked in sunflower oil which, while not particularly healthy, added a hint of nuttiness and made the side dish taste like nostalgia. The hash was a bit gamey but well seassoned and went well with the salty, savory potatoes. I tried the stew and found it to be on point. Nothing extraordinary but tasted very close to what my grandmother used to make, if richer. Overall, Skovorodka offers the Russian /Ukranian equivalent of Southern comfort food. It will stick to your ribs without an apology. If you’re lucky you may be treated to live ‘Russian restaurant muzak’ while stuffing your face. It’s basically a combination of Russian disco and Soviet-era standards. Sooo typical. In any event, for what you get it’s worth the short walk away from the overpriced fare on the boardwalk.

not so subtle-ly racist here. I went with a few of my friends last weekend(all of us were asian). We walk in to try this place since we had heard the food was decent. The waiter walks over and says«All full!», so we ask how long the wait is and he just repeats«All full» and walks away. The place was clearly not full, several tables were empty and there was no one else waiting. make of that what you will but they at best have the wrong idea of how the service industry works and more likely are just racist.

Nice place, but the 3 appetizers we ate were not good. The herring was not delicate, and tasted too fishee. The Pirojkes were tasty inside, but way too much bread and the crep with red caviar was ok, but it didn’t come with sour cream. Overall, it wasn’t good.

Just amazing, everything. We eat here once or twice a month everything here has been just fantastic. The food taste so good, always very fresh and cooked just perfect. It’s hard to single out my favored dishes because I love everything I eat here. Also ordered for pick up to go once and it was excellent as well. I highly recommend it.

Solid Russian Restaurant I’ve been here a few times for lunch /early dinner. They have a full menu and a separate lunch menu with smaller portions but lower prices. I tried a few appetizers and main dishes. My favorites were the Russian Potato Salad(Salad Olivie), Russian dumplings(Pelmenie), hot and cold Borscht soup, and Katleti(Turkey and Pork Patties). Bottom line, the food is tasty and prices are good.

mother russia, the land of vodka and heavy foods. although i found this place on Unilocal,it felt particularly safer to go in company of a russian. moment we walked in, we were approached in english but then switched to russian and i was a little lost. first thing i noticed were their tv programming. some sort of russian pop music awards. man… russians love bright colors and crazy hair perms. onto the food. i didn’t order anything. i let my dining companion handle all of that. i tried some sort of purple drink which i didn’t like. then we had a soup and a bunch of dumplings. i was pretty satisfied with my meal although i don’t remember what it was and for sure i can’t pronounce it. i would go back, for sure.

Good find near Coney Island! We were looking for a place to go nearby the coney island area and we found that one, which is actually closer to Brighton Beach. We wanted russian cuisine and were amazed by this place. It was exactly what we wanted, nice dumplings, good borsch, beef strogonoff, potato soup+meat with a huge crispy dough thing on top, good and huge russian beer bottles, russian telenovelas on TV, crooner singing at the back and real russian people all around us. Service was careful and on time, and the place looks renovated from what we have figured. It was a trip out of New York and it was a success, we travelled by going to this place. I see myself going again while in the area. Try it.

I very much enjoyed my dinner on a cold, rainy, January night. I don’t have much experience with Russian cuisine, but I was impressed with a lot of the food. I tried the perogies, which were not what I expected. Puffed pastry around the meat, or potato interior. Every other time that I’ve had perogies they a more doughy exterior. They were excellent, they reminded me of the puffed pastry that you get with hors d’oeuvres. While I didn’t try it myself, I thought it was interesting that you can get hot tea with cherry jam to put into your tea. It looked interesting, and if I am ever back, I would try it. For my meal I had the stuffed cabbage and the lamb stew. The stuffed cabbage was amazing, absolutely the best thing that I ate there. The sauce is really what did it for me, sort of an orange sauce that has a lot of flavor(I want this sauce on everything I eat). My only criticism about the stuffed cabbage was that I could have used a bit more cabbage, there was only a couple of leaves and the rest was meat, it could have used a bit more balance. The lamb stew was also very good. Thick stew that is almost solid, big chunks of lamb that fall apart at the touch of a spoon and potatoes. A large puffed pastry covered the bowl. While the stew was good, I thought it could use a little more seasoning(nit picking here). Delicious food, the type of place that makes me want to try more Russian cuisine.

We weren’t that hungry after the beach so we came with the intention of ordering a few things to share. After entering the restaurant the aroma was amazing and we were instantly hungry. Between 6 of us we ordered 2 appetizers to share and 5 entrees. — mushroom julienne with baked cheese(must get!) — traditional russian dumplings — beef stew — roasted hen — chicken stroganoff(fav!) — pork with mushroom sauce(fav!) — some sort of beef/steak dish Skovorodka, thank you for allowing us to eat in your wonderful establishment with our wet/sandy beach attire! I will definitely come back here on my next trip to Brighton Beach.
