Smiling Pizza

Clearly this is a neighborhood favorite, for I had to wait a few minutes to get a free seat at 3 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon. This was on a only somewhat mild January day, when the wind blew across Prospect Park and threatened to interrupt the football games taking place on the now-​brown meadows.
I have a small list of gripes from my experience — the service was very slow, the cashier absent for several minutes when I wanted to pay for my roll, the ATM was out of order and they slapped a $ 1 fee to pay by credit card. None of these errors were fatal, and the classic New York pizza with a bit of char and a nice cheese blend meant I got exactly what I wanted when looking for a neighborhood slice.
That’s probably what’s allowed this place to stay around for so long, and what will it allow to keep around long after I leave the city as well.

Love that this pizzeria is open late! I usually get the vegetable slice and spilt the garlic knots. Both are very tasty! The guys behind the counter are always very nice. Place looks like any normal pizzeria, there’s always a place to sit down. Delivery is always promt. No complaints at all, will continue coming here and ordering from here to work.

I find it physically difficult to walk past smiling without first grabbing a slice… or three

When I visit Brooklyn in Park Slope this is the only pizza place I bother with. The pizza is great and the staff is quick and friendly.

Dependable neighborhood pizza place. Nice, slightly sweet sauce. What neighborhood pizza tasted like when I was a kid.

Almost exclusively order the Grandma, which is very good. Prices about average for the neighborhood. Seems pretty clean. Delivery usually comes between 35 – 55 minutes.

A stop over at this place has become a new tradition after Barbes. But the history goes back much much further.
Back through the mists of time, I lived in Park Slope for most of a year. This was when I first moved to New York City. It was when you didn’t cross flatbush. It was when the subways ran intermittently, broke down, stalled & created delays.
It was in these mid-​nineties days when I first discovered this pizza joint. Same booth seating is there now. It has that old feel to it. It’s nostalgic, ok I said it!
If you are taking the F train to park Slope, you’ll at some point stop in here. Don’t worry your head. You won’t be disappointed. The recipe is good, and freshness is reliable. Enjoy the old new york scene.

If only I could give one star! Found a roach on my food!!! They refused to refund he $ or apologies. On top of which I still had to pay for my food which can to about $ 14. To ad insult to injury they charged me a $ 1 inconvenience fee for using my credit card. STAY AWAY!

I wish they were less pricey I remember paying 1.25 for a slice now it’s like 2.50. It’s well worth the money though. Mozzarella sticks are the the best and they have little personal size pizzas which I love for my pre schoolers. It’s perfect.

The neighborhood is beautiful, staff is really nice, and the pizza will have you coming back for more. This has to be my favorite pizzeria ever.

Excellent neighborhood pizza joint conveniently located on 7^th avenue by the train. Pizza is crisp (I’ve had plenty of watery, slimy pizza at other places in the area). Great quality. Wish they had better salad options, but big deal. Highly recommended.

This is my old neighborhood, so i may be a bit prejudiced. Smilin’ makes a very good pie and good heroes. If you want opulence or ambiance, look elsewhere, but if you want a really good slice with the right crispy crust, a tasty cheese blend and a top-​shelf sauce, this is your joint.

What the hell happened to this place? Ordered a pie with sausage and peppers and the only thing that had any flavor were the green peppers. The crust soggy on the pointed side and very dry, to the point of not being able to fold it on the other. I’ve eaten here before and I have to say that the ingredients they are using were definitely different from the pies I’ve gotten from them before. Oh and a sausage and pepper pie shouldn’t have onions on it either.

Stopped in for my favorite type of slice (chicken parmesan), and was sorely disappointed. It was served to me lukewarm, and just had no flavor and the chicken was dry.
Also, is it too much to ask to have parmesan shakers to add a little extra flavor? Doesn’t just apply to this place… come on NYC pizza places!

Quick, easy, good. Love the white pizza and it’s affordable priced. The guys that work there are nice and professional. Highly recommend.

A park slope mainstay — they have a great sausage slice. A familiar spot when getting out of the train. Ices in the summer– good delivery too

I really only eat here when I need to grab something to eat on my way into or out of the subway. But it’s a solid slice. I’ve been coming here for years and haven’t had anything except for a regular slice, and probably won’t. It’s not the kind of place to get adventurous. But if you want a slice, you’re good to go.
The guys behind the counter are usually yelling at each other. Or maybe they’re just talking loudly. I’m not sure because it’s not in English and I can’t quite place the language. This kind of kills the vibe of the place. They need to chill out a bit.

Heyyyy, you’re in New York, right? Why not help yourself to local delicacy and grab a delicious slice or two. And wait, what’s that place? The name says Smiley, there’s a giant smiling face logo — what can go wrong?
THIS PLACE IS AWFUL. It might as well be called «Smiley Pizza Because When You Come In You’re Smiling And When You Leave You’re Not, Because We Stole Your Smile To Put On Our Pizza», but I’m not in marketing so I’m sure there’s a good reason it’s not called that. But seriously, what a joke. I felt like I had gone to get a shiny new car from the dealership, but ended up paying $ 25,000 for a rusty wagon.
I got a square slice of margarita — how hard is that? They warmed it up while I asked for it to go. «Three dollars», he said, and I was not impressed but willing to try. When he handed me a tray (assuming I was staying), I was even less so. I gave him a 5 and he stared me straight in the eye while giving me one dollar and one quarter back before walking away babbling in Italian. I was concerned, but I left.
Once I got my order TO GO, I walked out to at least try to enjoy my slice. I basically cut the top of my mouth on the crust, it was so burnt. The cheese tasted like a big chain that still uses cardboard for their base. This was the gourmet pizza I was getting?
If you want pizza here in Park Slope, go a few blocks in any direction and find a different place. This is not a good one. In fact, I hope you enjoyed your extra $.75 cents. Maybe put it towards your pizza making next time.

I have been coming here since I could walk. My parents grew up coming here as well. Conveniently located near the park, and train station. The chicken Parmesan hero has been a staple of mine (especially on a snow day!)
The pizza is not brick oven, thin crust but because of my memories here as a child, I will always be a fan. Those swinging doors to the bathroom have made this pizzeria spot a park slope landmark!
