What a great place. My masseuse was so kind and friendly. My massage was perfect and felt much longer than 45 minutes. Looking forward to going back for many more. My neck hasn’t fell this loose in my entire life.

I had an appointment with Kyle. I called a little before noon and Sparrow was able to fit me in the same day! The salon is cute, small, and clean, with a very beach-​y vibe. Since I went in the middle of the day during a day off from work, the place was empty and quiet, but Kyle put on some good music and he was a very cool guy to spend some time with. I didn’t really know what I wanted, but he spent some time examining the shape of my head and gave me a great cut and a «beach wave blow-​out», which gave me gorgeous tousled curls. It was definitely the best haircut I’ve ever had.
I wanted to post a picture, but I got caught in a rainstorm directly after my appointment with no umbrella — I nearly cried! Still, the cut itself is great and Kyle is a true artist, so even without the blowout, it looks fantastic and is fairly low-​maintenance. I would definitely recommend that anyone looking for a high quality haircut in Brooklyn head over to Sparrow.

Book with Caeleb! Second time visiting sparrow, first time with Caeleb. I booked a color session at the end of today’s haircut because I was just that impressed with his work and personality!
Sparrow Salon is super clean, cute and inviting. The stylists are up on their game and are always professorial.
Caeleb was not only fun to chat with but did not flinch when I said «do whatever you want to my hair». I love that! My hair looks great!

Interesting place! Small, but quaint, and very clean salon. I like the simplicity, because it’s not overly cluttered or hectic here like other locations in busier parts of Manhattan.
Have cool products lined up on shelves so you can shop while you wait. They had holiday cards that were adorable.
Ariel was a really pleasant woman.
Next time I go back, I am going to try their massages!

LOVE this place! It’s so cute and cozy! I got my hair done by Kyle, and he was beyond amazing! He is a celebrity hair stylist who treats all of his clients like gold. He was so sweet and knowledgable. My hair is red with some blonde in it so its easy for someone to mess it up. Kyle knew exactly what to do to keep it bright and healthy! I highly recommend him. I also got an amazing massage there as well. My body felt wonderful for days! I will be back for both services as soon as I can!

It smells so good as soon as I walk in! The atmosphere is pleasant and professional, the services responsive to particular needs and friendly. I’ve always had a great experience here.

This place is a gem. The environment is clean, smells great, and is extremely inviting. They provide coffee, infused water, sometimes even beer! They also use and sell organic, natural products (which is important to me!)
My cut was fun and flirty and my blow dry was beautiful beach waves that kept their shape for days afterwards. Kyle is hilarious and isn’t afraid to give his suggestions so you walk out of the salon feeling the best you’ve ever felt. Just sit tight, relax, and enjoy!
Definitely recommend trying this place. You won’t be disappointed!

What a lovely salon that smells divine from the moment you walk in. My independent feature film rented it out for hair and makeup as we filmed on the streets of Greenpoint. The place was perfect! Our stars loved it (Jon Fletcher is featured in the picture below), felt comfortable in there. Ariel and the staff were super helpful and accommodating. We cannot say enough nice things about Sparrow Salon. And, at the end of the day some of our crew even purchased the cool glass water bottles and creams/​ointments they sell. Not only is a great salon, it’s the perfect place for gift buying. I’m going back for one of the arrow necklaces!

I went in yesterday to get my hair dyed grey. The place itself is very nice, clean, welcoming and everyone is super friendly. I was scared to go grey because I knew I would have to bleach my whole head and I was afraid of damaging my hair after having a terrible experience 8 years ago. I saw Paula who took AMAZING care of me. She guided me through the whole process and was very patient and just an overall lovely person. The whole experience was very therapeutic and my hair is not damaged at all! She also trimmed my hair a little bit and gave it more shape. She truly understands and sees hair differently than any other hairstylist I’ve ever encountered. I totally 100% recommend her, especially is you wanna go on a crazy hair dying transforming adventure! :)

I decided to walk in at Sparrow to see if I they had time to trimm my bangs and luckily Paula was free. She is very friendly and explains what she is doing, I loved the result! And they didnt charged me! The ambient is also very nice, very relaxing.

After getting a terrible cut at a park slope salon on a Sunday afternoon, I went home to try and style it a different way or hope it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was… but it was. Thankfully, I found Sparrow on Unilocal and called at 8:30 PM to see if they could squeeze me in before closing to fix the dreadful mess that had been made of my hair. Paula told me to come in at 9:00 and she would help me out. She told me she could tell exactly what I didn’t like about it and explained what she wanted to do to fix it. Then she got to work. Even after being traumatized earlier in the day, I had no doubts about trusting her to just do her thing and fix my style. We had awesome, easy conversation and the entire experience was super pleasant. I walked out of there with THE BEST haircut I have ever had! I can not say enough good things about the vibe or quality of work! I highly recommend Sparrow and especially Paula if you want an amazing hair experience.

I usually never write reviews but in this case I felt a negative review is fair. I made an appointment no problem the day before for 3. Received a text later in the evening asking if we could move to 2:15. No problem. I walked into the salon at 2:10 the next day. My stylist had just started coloring a clients hair which took till about 2:30. (It seemed as though she was rushing through the process but not my hair) Again no problem. I sat down and gave my stylist some quick insight to want I wanted and she washed me up quickly, did a fast cut, and poorly blow dried my hair and had me on my way while it was still damp. The whole process took thirty minutes. Mind you I have hair that extends beyond my shoulder. The cut was nice but un inspirational. I’ve had better cuts and better service at comparable salons so I won’t be going back. Whole 30 minutes ran me $ 90.

I have decided to write an updated review because my last review was from 2012. Sparrow has gone through a wonderful transformation as of mid 2014. It is now open daily as a retail space, a hair salon and a spa. I am so happy to have this healing haven in Greenpoint. I have been going to Sparrow for years now. I love the interior design and aesthetic. It speaks calmness and also has a hip-​Brooklyn charm to it. The new massage room in the back is a therapeutic oasis. I had a massage there yesterday with a new therapist named Ere. She was AMAZING and did just the right amount of deep work and relaxation. I really liked how she spent extra time on my scalp and her face massage felt great along my sinuses and jaw. She also used hot towels on my back and wiped my feet with hot towels as well. She was able to really work into my problem areas with the right amount of deep pressure, which I love. I went home afterwards and fell asleep earlier than I’ve gone to sleep all year. I will definitely be going back to her. I have yet to try the other new therapists, but Ariel always gives a wonderful massage. I recommend her to all of my friends. Jana does great deep work and she also works as a yoga instructor so she incorporates a lot of stretching right on the massage table. The massage and bodywork staff at sparrow are really solid!
The retail space is the perfect place to buy handmade goods, eco friendly, and organic products. They are now selling jewelry, hand-​made stationery, candles, eco-​nail polish and various other products. Ariel, the owner of Sparrow has always been into an organic, eco way of life WAY before it was a trend. Since I’ve known her, she’s been using high quality face creams on me during my massages and using the best-​quality essential oils and candles.
I have not tried the salon yet, but I look forward to getting color and cuts done there shortly. Every time I see the stylists, they have super cooling looking hair, make-​up and ombres. More to come… :)

I went for a Manic Monday special by Camille. She is so very lovely, gentle, warm, and a very thorough hairdresser. She took pounds of hair off me that was dry, ombréd, and in dire need of leaving my hair a long yesterday ago. She gave me a light layered bob (went from nearly waist length hair to shoulder length!) that not only gave some shape back in my face but also restored my hair back to perfect health! Her scalp massage was such a gift after a long, long day. Camille takes great care of her clients and creates a very relaxing, chill and light atmosphere. Treat her well, she’s a true delight :)

I just got my hair cut with Camille and it was GREAT!
I walked in with thin, fine hair that’s been over processed (thank you years of blonde highlights) and grown out way too long… including what used to be side swept bangs. I wanted a one layer cut and those bangs again– basically the Emma Stone.
I walked out with a beautiful haircut that suits my lifestyle (I’m pretty low maintenance outside of the color) and found Camille was a delight to chat with. She’s very friendly and a great conversationalist– plus that shampoo and scalp massage was so nice. Would highly recommend!

What a gem in the Greenpoint/​Williamsburg neighborhood! I found them by chance while looking for a local masseuse to help with post-​surgery tension and recovery. Both Ariel and Jana are incredibly talented, adaptive and knowledgeable. This is definitely my new «spot» — quaint, charming space and relaxing vibe. Jana gave me one of the very best deep tissue work-​ups I’ve ever had. Book your appointment now — you won’t be disappointed.

Adriana has been cutting my hair for years, and I don’t go to anyone else. I call her «Picassa» because she’s an artist. She will really listen to you when you describe what you want (and if you’re not sure, she’ll work with you to figure it out). She’ll give you a relaxing scalp massage when she washes your hair. You may also feel as if you had some good talk therapy– I always feel good about myself (inside and out) when I leave the salon: D I also love the space itself — it’s cute and in a convenient area. Just had my hair did by their new stylist Axel who now works Fridays. Amazing!!! Who doesn’t love the attention of a beautiful man and his scissors.

Wow! After my old hairdresser left me to pursue her career in the south, I became desperate. My hair is pretty important to me, so I felt a liiiittle scared about trying a new person. BUT, I walk past Sparrow every day, and one day I popped in for an impulsive bang trim. Caroline was fast and efficient, and my bangs had never looked better. I vowed I’d go back.
A month later, with over-​fried ombré hair, I made an appointment to go back to my natural chocolate brown color. Caroline quickly removed the dead ends without hacking my hair off, and seamlessly brought me back to my brunette roots. I adore this haircut – very wash and wear, which is great for me. Previously, I had to load my hair up with product to get the effect I do with one of her haircuts, just washed with a little argan oil.
Another thing I loved is that she wasn’t patronizing about product, and wasn’t pushing mousse or shampoo down my throat. Such a laidback atmosphere, which I loved. She’s got it down pat, she’s fast and she’s super sweet.
Definite seal of approval from this hair-​obsessed girl.

Had been looking for a reliable hairdresser I can trust in NY. With so many salons, I was overwhelmed trying to decide who to go to. I had an excellent colorist I went to in Boston for 7 years but I wanted to find someone local who could do good color the way I wanted. Trying different NY salons Goldilocks-​style was not something I wanted to do, nor an affordable option.
Finally, after reaching a desperate state of outgrown cut and colored hair, I checked out Sparrow, which I walk by twice a day. Caroline fit me in immediately. Warm, friendly, inviting, and a total pro at what she does. She matched the varied highlights perfectly which made me happy since I liked the way it was, and was impeccable with her timing. Great conversation and a relaxing atmosphere. She didn’t overdo the styling, and I walked out feeling really good. Worth every $. Pricing is fairly average for color and cut. I’ll be going here from now on!
