Great beer selection on tap and cool server the evening we were there. This place was the perfect hangout spot for a bit of grub and drink. The beer and waters came out pretty fast. The mac and cheese was really good according to the missus, though my lamb burger was a bit dry(med rare, but came out med), as was the bun. Still though, the rosemary fries were superb, and they had some tasty pickles. The giant/tall thick slab picnic tables out back were a nice place to spend some time. We spied a giant Jenga set outside, but it was late and the neighbors doubtfully wanted to hear falling lumber!

Having been here a few times with not great food but reliable service and good beer, I thought arriving at 7:30 before an 8:30 movie time across the street would be reasonable. Turns out, not-so. Ordered a beer and something incredibly simple — Mac and cheese and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. Asked to close my tab finally before the last second I could wait and the bartender brought over a burnt dish half prepared. I went on a date here years ago(2013) and it was great. I’ve been here multiple time sense then and it’s been crap. PS — the dish was a simple Mac and cheese to hold me over. It came out burnt and tasteless. Skip this joint. They even skimp on the Thursday music.

Not sure why Unilocal says they are closed for lunch. They are very much open and I just had the most delicious avocado and sweet potato sandwich. I’m also not sure why it didnt come up in a Unilocal search for vegan friendly restaurants. They have a lot of great vegan and vegetarian options, as well as dishes for carnivores. There is also a juice bar.

Stumbled in this place from a blizzard. The staff was super friendly as soon as we got in. Despite being the only place open during a blizzard, the didn’t pressure some stragglers coming in to escape the snow. Staff was very attentive and got our food out quick. Good food and friendly smiles. They have a bar and a seating area. Stop on by before you go to Cobble Hill theater or before heading out.

I’m a tough critic, BUT this place: phenomenal! Imagine Mac n Cheese à la carte, brussel sprouts, sausage, smoked gouda, tons of tap beer(buy one get one free happy hour) live music on Thursdays. Pulled pork kimchi tacos. I’m pretty much in love with this place. And they have games just in case your tinder date is awkward or if you’d like to kick your husband’s bum at connect 4 — oh and $ 1 oysters! As for the staff, charming. I felt like I was among friends and this was only my first time, not my last though!

I really don’t like giving negative reviews. I don’t like complaining about customer service. In the world of customers, I’m probably as easy going as it gets. Really. I’m patient, flexible, friendly, and ask for little. For the positives. Location is ideal. I’m in the area a lot, and it’s close to the places I frequent and the train. Décor and ambiance is really nice. The glass of wine I had was excellent. I didn’t eat there but the menu looked nice and the food looked good. Why I am giving two stars is because of the service my friend and I received at the bar. We sat down at the bar, right by the entrance. It was a weekday night around 6pm. The place had a handful of customers at the bar, but most customers floating in were headed toward the seating area in the back. The bartender watched us come in. We said hello, he said nothing and turned away. Hokey dokey. So we waited. He looked at us again. No greeting, no menu. He turned back around and continued his conversation with two customers already there. He walked over to us, I said hello, could we have a menu. He did an about face, went to the other side of the bar, and asked those customers(different ones) if they needed anything, how was everything, etc. Another couple comes in, and sat right next to us. He seemed to know them, and gave them menus before they even put their butt in the chair. At this point, both of us commented to each other quietly, that for some reason our patronage doesn’t seem to be needed here. As the bartender made his way over to take the order of the couple next us, my friend said«ok lets go». And what do you know! In milliseconds he notices our presence and hands us a menu. How kind! We each order a drink. My friend had a question about a selection, to which it was answered very abruptly. We had our drinks, but were never checked on again. Not even to ask if we wanted another round. I’m not sure if we did something to personally offend the bartender? We were quiet, dressed appropriately, and never complained or demanded anything. I hardly think it was us, especially after reading the other reviews echoing the level of customer service.

Sometimes you just want comfort food, you know? Living in Brooklyn, I’ve had the best of everything here: ice cream, mac n’ cheese, pizza, burgers, kale salad… I actually don’t have the palate of a 7 year-old, but I truly appreciate classic food done right. One doesn’t have to exert much effort to serve an average Mac n’ cheese. But, exceptional Mac n’ Cheese requires a little more care. I was looking for high quality, fresh comfort food — and I definitely found it here. It was a late Monday night and the bar was kind of empty, but the staff was friendly and Mac n’ Cheese delicious. Highly recommend!

This is the second time I’ve been to this place. First time was great, second time horrible. This ignorant bartender refused to serve me and my friends because he said our id pics don’t look like us? I mean is he blind or just discriminatory? Needless to say after that I’m done with this place

I always feel Strong after leaving this place! or is it crazy buzzed… yea. That’s more like it, totally buzzed after awesome happy hour. I can’t get enough of Strong Place because it hits the nail on some key fun factors for me. The servers have always been above and beyond friendly. The outside back patio is great to meet with friends and enjoy the nice weather. The $ 1 oysters are always on point. The buy one get one free beers is also unheard of in this neighborhood. I can’t think of anything really negative! They do have a new expanded wrap/salad/grilled cheese/sandwich menu so if you haven’t gone in a while, time to mosey on over to Strong Place. PS I used to always walk past it because they don’t have a very clear sign.

Think twice about going. Poor service and under cooked food after a long wait. This place needs a new staff.

Nice spot in the neighborhood. 3.5 stars, but I’m rounding up to be generous. We missed out on the oyster happy hour that makes this place so popular, but decided to get some oysters anyway to start our meal. Ordered a half dozen and 4 raw clams. They were fresh and tasty. Not the biggest fan of the raw clams, but I’m glad I got to try those out. For dinner, we shared the bone marrow croquettes with short rib, duck penne carbonara, and the lamb burger. The croquettes had a nice presentation of being served with a marrow bone. They were good, but not as flavorful or rich as I thought they would be. The duck penne carbonara was extremely… ducky. Very strong duck flavor, although surprisingly lacking in salt. The sauce was creamy but I didn’t get the tang of goat cheese that I was expecting. Still, it was a very solid dish. The lamb burger was thick and very well-seasoned. It could have been amazing, but was only just very good because unfortunately it was overcooked. I think I asked for it medium, it was past medium well. Still, you could taste the potential. The fries were good but a little on the salty side. Despite its mishaps, this place has a very good vibe and I’d like to try the lamb burger again(maybe next time ask for it medium rare so they’ll overcook it to medium?).

Allagash on tap, solid food menu, live music Thursday nights and an outdoor patio… what more could you ask for? Great bar with a really nice staff and cool atmosphere. Highly recommend!

This is a great place, there is live music, a bar and good food. The tables in the back are perfect for a meal with friends. The staff is perfect, nice and attentive. The food comes in big portions. The rosemary fries, the fried pepper an onion rings and the iron cast veggies are amazing.

If 2 beers are ordered well before 7pm(the end of happy hour), and more non-happy hour drinks and food are purchased for the next couple hours, perhaps getting moody when we point out that the happy hour drinks should’ve been half off is not the way to win customer loyalty. The waitress went from lovely to grumpy in a matter of seconds when it was calmly and nonchalantly said that the 2 beers were ordered before 7pm. She took ages with the credit card, then came back with cash(which was basically thrown on the table) because«the manager who voids transactions couldn’t be found.» I’m sure there are nicer, higher quality bars in the area.

I had been here a handful of other times for their beer selection which I have always enjoyed so we decided to try it for dinner and we are very glad we did. We started with an order of chick peas with sea salt and vinegar that we toasted and very tasty. I ordered the salmon with teriyaki and lemon which was fantastic. My girlfriend got the cauliflower soup and brussels sprout salad which both were also excellent. With great wine and service I loved the dining experience and look forward to returning when back in Carroll Gardens.

Strong place is a great time for all those occasions you find yourself going to the bar. With a date, hanging out with your friends or when you take your mother out for Mother’s Day and the movie doesn’t start for another hour so you take her to get some beers across the street! You know the normal times you go to bar. If the name suggests anything about the beers, it’s correct. This place has not only one of the most extensive selection of beers on tap, or one of the most changing selection of beers, it has one of the most unique selection of beers on tap. Tons of great beers from all around, with high ABVs. This place is great! The food was good the one time I ate here. I do find myself here though really for the beer. They have a wonderful design. The front bar is beautiful, the physical taps themselves are well made. They have clothespins hanging up the names of the beers above the taps, giving it a nice little niche. They have a huge meat locker type door for the bathroom, which is fun. The outside is nice looking, though you might want to bring bug repellant. They have televisions by the bar if a game is on. In the end, it’s a great bar for a happy hour or catching some beers before dinner. You should check it out!

I have such a bad habit of not updating my reviews, but Strong Place has a… strong place in my heart, so I’ll give them the honor. Of course, they still have a wonderful beer list. They still have a great backyard(can’t wait for summer!). But I’ve since come back a few times and tried the food, and it’s also great. The lamb burger with feta was one of my favorite burgers. The rosemary fries are the best. They also have duck fat edamame. Let me repeat that — duck. fat. edamame. I’ve also had their Allagash steamed Littleneck clams, which are pretty good. Broth could’ve been a little heavier though. Their fried oysters, on the other hand, were perfect. Bottom line — Strong Place is a great neighborhood bar and a favorite dinner spot.

3.5 stars… Strong Place is pretty beautiful, I’m surprised it’s taken me 5 years living down the street to check the place out. The backyard looked great but it was closed for the season. The beer list here is constantly changing and includes some interesting options at reasonable prices($ 6 – 7 mostly). Food prices are a tad steep and limited but nothing unreasonable. I got the bolognese for $ 10. I should have read closer or inquired as I assumed this would be over pasta. What I got was just a small dish with a meat sauce, a dollop of ricotta, and a few pieces of toasted bread. I’m surprised it wasn’t listed as an appetizer as that’s really what it was. Everyone at my table ordered the lamb burger with feta($ 16) which I tasted and it was great. The rosemary fries were very good despite having a tad too much salt and not too much rosemary. Overall the place as a-ok but nothing worth rushing back to.
