Love this place… fast, cheap bikini & eyebrow waxes. Can’t ask for more.

I went here about a year ago for a manicure/pedicure and the woman who worked on me was DRUNK! She was drinking while doing the job. It ended up messy and smudgy and I had to remove it as soon as I got home. Also she insisted on taking a razor to my feet, saying it wouldn’t hurt at all — it was horrible, but I tried to sit through it in the name of beauty. A couple days later my feet started to hurt — really hurt — and I couldn’t walk normally for over a week. Don’t go to this place EVER!

I havent been in about 3 years because I moved to California, but I still compare all facials that I’ve gotten all over the country to this place. Sadly, I’ve spent a lot of money and only found 1 other place that did as good of a job. The extractinos here were always sooooo thorough. I just moved to Chelsea and didnt feel like shlepping all the way to Parkslope, so I decided to try a couple of places in the neighborhood. I had one yesterday. They did literally 4 extractions! My skin already looks like crap this morning. The russians and armenians are the only ones that seem to do good extractions. I used to go to a girl at studio 97 who made my skin look awesome for nearly 2! And they charge about $ 30 less then the crap facial I got yesterday. Bottom line, if you want to hurt but look amazing for a long time, stick with the russians. The atmosphere and attitude may not be great but your skin will be.

I’ve had my fair share of bikini waxes, both food and bad, and I must say, this place definitely ranks on the lower end. The receptionist is cold and rude and the ambiance is terrible. The rooms where they do the waxing are cold and clinical and not clean at all. They double dip the stick in wax; I’m not even sure if they change sticks. They are abrupt and don’t take there time to be neat. Worst of all, they left wax in certain«areas» where it isn’t particularly comfortable. Never going there again.

Hi, I have to update my review. I came back a few times. I still think that Alex is very good at both cut & color, but he showed up more than 10 minutes late each time(I think he was out getting lunch) and then seemed annoyed that I was bothered by this. Guess I’m looking for a new haircutting place…

I have had massages and nail services here. The nail services are adequate — nothing special. The massages done by the Russian ladies are great. I would definitely recommend them — especially for the price. $ 60/hr. nice! They are definitely good on last minute.

I went to this salon in need of a last minute brazilian wax close to my new place. I don’t need fancy digs, just quality waxing, and based on the reviews of Barbara, I was ready to go for it. I called, and they were able to take me within 15 minutes, but they told me Barbara no longer worked there. It was indeed not fancy, and maybe even a little dirty, but i figured that was where the savings came in. I saw a woman named Inessa, and left literally bruised and with a couple of large spots unwaxed. Also, instead of the wooden popsicle sticks usually used to apply the wax, she used a metal spatula, which clearly had been used before me and would be used after me. Not so sanitary, and had I seen it before I was getting dressed, I would have walked out. I have been getting brazilians for years, and I know there can sometimes be some pain, but I have never experienced anything this awful in my life. They may be ok for other things, but please do not subject yourself to a waxing there. If anyone can recommend a good spot for it in the area, or knows where Barbara has moved on to, let me know!

I’ve come to this salon on several occasions to get my hair cut and for a facial. As a guy, it is hard to find a salon which is affordable and still does a great job. Who wants to pay $ 75 for a haircut? On the other hand, I hate to go to a barber for $ 10 and have them buzz cut my head in 5 minutes. The hairstylist Alex is very patient and takes his time to get it just right. John has a great eye for style and knows how to cut men and women’s hair to suit their faces. Also, I recently went in for a facial. I have an oily skin type and sometimes I just break out. I know, it’s gross! Well, after a 1 hour glycolic acid facial with massage my skin is shiny and clear. Even my fiancé noticed a difference!!! They like to tell you«no pain no gain,» but when it comes to skin care it is pretty much true. Getting rid of those pimples and ingrown hairs from shaving is no easy task. Would I recommend this salon to my friends? Definitely! The price is fair, the staff is friendly, the rooms are clean. I live nearby and will definitely return in the near future.

Not fancy, but I can always get an appointment here and every cosmetician I have does a great job. My only complaint is that the receptionist is really not very welcoming and actually verges on condescending, which is not a great way to begin your visit!

What really needs to happen is someone needs to explain why former eastern bloc nations have such a strangle hold on the waxing industry. Some of my fellow Unilocalers comments are valid-it is not the poshest, newest facility, the staff can be indifferent. On the plus side I have called in a panic need a bikini wax in the next 15 minutes and they have been able to take me. I have had waxing, nail services here. I would not get a facial here or get my hair done but people seem to come here for that I just wouldn’t. A full leg and bikini wax for $ 52-not too bad. Barbara does a good job. They take credit cards but tips in cash.

Aww it really bums me out that this place gets bad reviews, because I love it. I only come here to get waxed, and they do a top notch Brazilian for pretty much cheaper than you can get ANYWHERE in New York — $ 30. That is insane. I’ve never found the place to be dirty, but you know, for a $ 30 Brazilian the spa is not going to look like Elizabeth Arden, people. Still it’s pretty nice, much nicer than a lot of other places. I had Barbara this morning and she was awesome! She was really nice about me being a big ass baby and kept calling me «super girl» and rubbing my leg when I squealed in pain. Most waxers are always really stoked about how flexible I am but this morning was the first time I ever heard a waxer say«You are yoga!!!» That’s right bitches, I AMYOGA.

I went here for my first ever Brazilian. A daunting experience to begin with, but even moreso when you are greeted by a bunch of Russian ladies loitering by the door, who let you in with great ambivalence. The room I was brought into was far from clean. There was wax on the floor, which I got on the soles of my shoes and socks. The station looked like there had been someone(or several someones) there before me, but nobody bothered to clean up. I should have turned around then and there, but I time was of the essence, I didn’t know of any other place nearby, and I just wanted to get it over with. It hurt like a mofo, and didn’t help to hear the woman spout cliches along the lines of «beauty is pain» and«no pain, no gain.» Mercifully, the waxing was over in about 15 minutes(maybe less). There was a little plucking, but I guess the woman got bored or something, because when I got home, I at least a dozen stray hairs and plucked them myself. As if all of this wasn’t bad enough, I was charged $ 10 more than I was quoted on the phone. Needless to say, I won’t be back, and I’ve been anti-recommending this place to all my friends.

Studio 97 is a great find — especially if you found it like I did — less than 24hrs before I had to go to a wedding and noticed I could use some professional help in the beauty department.. One stop shopping to get yourself back in shape for a big night, The staff do what they can to fit a crazy spruce up into the schedule. Yes, I called on a Friday in and had hair cut, waxing, eyelash tint, brow shape, pedicure all on a Saturday with very little waiting in between. The vitamin C facials are great too.
