Food was great! Service was meh. We had tacos, and I also had a burrito, which was huge. A monster burrito. Will be getting food there with pleasure sometime soon!

Let me start by saying I am Mexican. The food in this place is genuine and good quality. The tortillas they use for their tacos are the best I have had in NY and the quality of the meat is outstanding. Their green sauce is perfect. Make sure to have carne asada and bistek tacos! The tacos de pastor were disappointing though and so was the service. However, the food was forth the long wait.

This was another one of my lunch stops when I attended Kingsborough. It is a piece of Mexico in big ol Russian Brighton Beach. These people are very hard working and it shows in their food.

Delicious homemade tasting Mexican food! If this restaurant were anywhere near me I think I would eat here every week. We often order from here when we come to Brighton Beach to visit my grandparents. They also love the food and are very adventuresome with trying new foods. We often order various dishes: tacos, burrito, enchiladas, etc. everything has always been superlative. We most recently ordered a carnitas burrito to share which was so moist, well seasoned with fresh tasting ingredients that I secretly imagined ordering another for my trip home(I did not as I was so overfull)…as such a delicious burrito is difficult to find in Hoboken. Ever since living in the Mission District of San Francisco we have craved Mexican food but find authentic homestyle Mexican food difficult to find(and sorry, IIdo not consider Chipoltle to be in this category of amazing homestyle Mexican food). I also enjoyed the spice of their beef enchiladas served with a spicy red chilli based sauce. The chicken fajitas with grilled pepper tomatoes and onions was also very flavorful and lighter than the burrito and enchilada. Thank you Tacos El Rey for consistency making such delicious food made with love!

Slow service, lukewarm food, no flan available for dessert AND then they tried to double the tax on the bill by not itemizing the meals and giving us a different menu with the prices overwritten. The second star on this review is because the quantity of food was excellent.

I just called to place an order and the phone rang for a long time(I kept letting it ring because I have a pet peeve of businesses who do not answer their phones) and then someone just answered & set the phone down !! So I’m just on the line screaming hello, listening to chatter and music in the background. I’m taking my order some place that values the customers that pay their bills!

good restaurant, the mood when I went in made me feel like i walked in a bar, I ordered food to go, the lady wasn’t very informed(she didn’t know what to recommend or anything related to the food) yet she was helpful because she got the cook to switch ingredients from a torta to a quesadilla. It only took 10 minutes to have my food ready, overall the food was good and I’ll definitely be going back to that place often

Came here for dinner with my boyfriend and LOVED it! Got the Guac, beef burrito and seafood soup. The seafood soup is a must. You know this restaurant is good when you have Mexican locals filling the restaurant and they’re all eating what you order. The lemonade was so fresh and the quality of the ingredients is so fresh. Service was also SO great! Thanks for the great dinner!

First time ordering, very impressed. Tacos are packed with meat n well priced. We ordered the carne asada, n chorizo tacos, the carne asada quesadilla n the chicken tostada., all were delicious. This is authentic Mexican not Taco Bell, tacos are made with corn not flour tortillas. Big plus for having 2 liter harrito sodas. Delivery was pretty fast as well. Don’t know about the language barrier since I spoke Spanish while ordering. I’ll definitely order again !!

I have only had the tacos here but they are great. This is authentic Mexican food. I love the chorizo and the carnitas tacos. This is a hidden gem. Try it!

I would agree with the people who think this place is a hidden gem. I order from here fairly often. The food is great, but I always have an issue figuring out what’s what on the menu, because I want to try different things. I love the enchiladas mixtas and the huevos rancheros with chorizo instead of ham(the bomb). There’s not really another Mexican place around, but it’s better than most places I’ve been to because of the extensive menu and food quality. I have two complaints — sometimes you get someone on the phone who doesn’t speak English. Although I can muster up enough Spanish to place an order, I can’t ask questions about menu items(too much). Te service at the location is also good. Advice for business: revitalize your menu and make it more descriptive, in English. There are a lot of customers and potential customers who just can’t read the menu. Read back the order to the customer to make sure you didn’t miss anything(because I’ve seen mistakes). Start accepting credit cards(many people just don’t carry cash). Otherwise it’s a great place that I highly recommend for their food.

Probably one of Brighton Beach’s best-kept secrets. This is NOT a Taco Bell. There are Mexican soaps or pop music playing, an old-school juke box in the corner, and flags/sombreros/.plaques all over the walls to remind you that it IS indeed Mexican! The guac is perfect. The chips are warm and never stale. The red salsa is more chunky and spicy, green is smoother and more tolerable for amateurs who can’t handle a little heat. The tacos, tortas, burritos, quesadillas, chalupas, tostadas and horchata are all really traditionally made and full of flavor. They do NOT skimp on ingredients — it’s all full of meat, cheese, guac and what have you. Jarritos are available in a variety of flavors, as is Snapple. Non-alcoholic sangria, apple cider, and lemonade is available, as well as a selection of(alcoholic) beers. Be warned: this will not be a quick meal. You will be very full and tempted to take a nap afterwards, so don’t come here on your lunch hour. The waitresses speak very limited English but the menu is translated and pointing works well. They know enough to understand«no cheese». They don’t screw up your order either, so don’t worry about the communication issues. It’s cash only. There’s a deli across the street with an ATM open 24 hours. They close at 2AM and deliver late night which is a blessing.

Go here and get the beef tongue tacos with guacamole aka lengua tacos… Say it in Spanish cause the waitresses don’t speak englese in that place. Best beef tongue tacos in the whole universe.

Located in Brighton Beach, Tacos El Rey is a small taqueria that you can easily miss among all the small stores on Coney Island Avenue. According to locals, it offers the best tacos in the area, but I’m guessing there aren’t many Mexican restaurants in an area known as «Little Odessa By The Sea». Upon entering, I noticed Sopa de Mariscos(seafood soup) being consumed at every table. Being the copycat that I am, I too ordered the dish and found it quite pleasant. The soup had a flavorful yet clean taste of shellfish, peppers, and squid(calamari, if the name offends you), coming packed with enough seafood that I feared for my palate. Soup is nice, but I came here for tacos, dammit! Their Carne Asada and Al Pastor tacos were finely chopped and seasoned, but didn’t stand out from their counterparts found in Sunset Park and Astoria. The Pescado(fish) taco was mildly disappointing, given their proximity to the water. The fish to shredded lettuce ratio was about even, which doesn’t make for a memorable fish taco. However, the real gem was their Carnitas taco which came stuffed with huge chunks of marinated pork that had some really good flavor to it. I’ve eaten at many taquerias, but this was the best Carnitas taco I’ve had thus far. One issue I hope that Tacos El Rey addresses is their slow service, as I waited quite a long time between the main course and the soup appetizer, which also took it’s sweet time getting to my belly. The staff is pleasant and courteous, but it doesn’t offset the long wait time one has to endure. All in all, I would recommend Tacos El Rey if you happened to be stuck in the Brighton Beach area with a hankering for Mexican food, but to be prepared for a prolonged wait for said food.

Authentic, delicious, and huge portions. We love going here. The food is always consistently yummy! If you live in the area and want to order out, better to pick it up than have it delivered. If you have it delivered, they charge sales tax. If you pick it up, they do not. Save yourself a few bucks! :)

What a great Mexican place in such a commercial and forgettable neighborhood. We chose this over the Indian place opposite on the road. I ordered the jarritos and my husband ordered a mexican beer. As mentioned by my fellow Unilocalers this place is really slow and like to take their own time to serve food. We were also lucky as suggested to have gone at a slow hour so the AC and big fans were effective and the place was very cool and welcoming. I liked the minor things hung up on the wall from Mexico. A little ordinary however nice. We ordered fish and veggie tacos. Both the dishes took a long time to come however the wait was worth it. They were flavorful with a sprinkle of queso fresco. The guacamole was fresh and better than most others. We never got to eat the salsa that our fellow Unilocalers have mentioned about as we were already stuffed by the end of our meal. Highly recommended. We are def going back.

As others have said the service may be a bit slow. But they give you tortilla chips and a selection of dips. Eating them fills the time nicely! Our favorite Mexican restaurant in New York. Informal, convivial atmosphere. Very decent prices. Delicious authentic food in generous portions. Last time we went my wife had the small shrimp burrito. It was a big as a small throw pillow and much tastier. I had the enchiladas suisas. Delicious. Halfway through we were too full to continue. The waitress packed up the unfinished food for us to take home. The leftovers made up another meal.

We ordered the seafood soup, after seeing bowls of it at others’ tables. They took our order, but then they came back, said they had no more…?(it was not the end of the day). Chips and salsa were served towards the end of the meal. Very slow service, but polite. However, the tacos(carne assada and pollo) were delicious. Thus, 3 stars. PS if you want to have a conversation, you will be competing with the very loud but ‘state of the art’ jukebox.

Yesterday I visited this place for the first time(though in the last few months i ordered couple breakfast deliveries from them and ought to say that their American Omelette with Home Fries is pretty good!) It’s rather a small place with a nothing-to-say interior, Mexican karaōke, friendly attitude and decent food. I went there with a friend of mine, so we ordered BBQ platter(to share) and 4 bottles of Modelo Especial(for both of us). It cost us 26.50(+tips). P. S. When we paid our check and went out for a smoke-break, we met a kind of local«el mariachi» at the threshold. They were much shorter than Antonio Banderas… 8-)
