Wonderful Venue when it occurs! Convivial atmospheres, courteous attendees, laughs and mambo, mambo, mambo starting at 9:00pm.
Great place to go solo and make new acquaintances.
Small Entrance fee, Drinks Moderately priced Casual Dress but be in good taste! Open collar shirts or preppy Izod like knit shirts might be your best bet! You are going to need all the air you can get!

I stumbled upon First Saturday by accident pretty soon after moving out to Brooklyn. A friend of mine was moving from VT to Brooklyn and while waiting for her apartment to be ready was staying with me. It was a gorgeous day so we headed to the BBG and had a fantastic day. When leaving around 3 pm we heard people mentioning First Saturday and so we headed next door to pick up a little flyer about it.
Man am I glad we decided to go back. First Saturday became a monthly routine — even after I left Brooklyn I’d go back home once a month with some of my VT friends and we’d always kick things off at First Saturday.
The themed monthly event is a great way to expose yourself to visual artists, fimmakers, and music from a variety of cultures and genres. It’s free to get in and most events are free, although I believe that we have had to pay for some — worth every penny.
You can’t beat ending your night with a spin on the dancefloor after taking a lesson earlier in the night. In the warmer weather months, definitely enjoy the outside music and beer.

Brooklyn Friend told me we should come out to a party at the Brooklyn museum. Was I in for a total shock. I have been to the Brooklyn museum on numerous occasions but the first Saturday you get in free and there was a party.
We found parking easily we didn’t get there till about 10pm but it was still worth it the funny part me an my friend thought just the lobby with drink that was it… nope take the elevator and we sent into a museum party that felt like a basement party some where

We were dancing to Some Reggae and then the DJ went into some Egyptian music people didn’t just stop dancing they got more into it next thing i was doing some sort of Aladdin meets Sean Paul dance but it worked

Target makes a good move to give back to communities by sponsoring events like this at the Brooklyn Museum, and I’ve seen Target sponsor other Arts, like the Aquarium in Chicago.
The best part is that it’s FREE!
It’s filled with all different people from Brooklyn and abroad.
The girls are HOT. All shades and sizes.
There are great exhibits there, check out «Who Shot Rock n Roll» before the end of January. It’s amazing to see original photographs of history.
Beer and wine are $ 6.
There’s plenty of neighborhood bars on Washington and Vanderbilt.
The more people come to First Saturdays, the more Target can pat its back. I admit, I shop at Target.

Wonderful event. Gotta hand it to Target, they so wonders for the community sponsoring activities such as this.
I’ve been twice, and the main attraction really is the free museum exhibits. I love the idea of art accessible to the entire community, and as such families show up to enjoy the festivities. This is how museums were meant to be, a celebration for all to enjoy.
Additionally, they always have DJ’s music and dancing activities.
I haven’t been to the Guggenheim events, but I can’t imagine paying $ 25 when here you get it for free. Must be the difference between being in the UES vs the boroughs. heee

This is a great event. I say that after having dragged myself on the train to the UES, stood in a huge-​ass line for the Guggenheim Art After Dark for 45 minutes for some reason willing to then pay $ 25 for the privilege to enter. I don’t know what they had in there but I’m pretty sure I would not have enjoyed it after the wait. We and many other simply left when the line seemed to stop progressing.
In contrast to that; get driven by date, pay $ 4 bucks, park, enter, enjoy.
Granted this event is deff. less glitzzy more family friendly, tons of kids. But it somehow didn’t affect my experience this time. Drinks line was crazy downstairs but there was no line whatsoever on the floors above. I arrived fashionably late so I missed ²⁄₃ of the bands playin in the lobby, I think the choice in music was awesome but the accustics in that location sucked. At first it seemed like the DJ event would go to the kids, as they were all racing around the dance floor like particles in a hadron collider so I wandered off to look at the Egyptian stuff but came back a half hour later and it was dark and the party was on with the floor packed with adults. Basically I can’t wait till next First Saturday.

What a wonderfully amazing experience this is. From 5 – 11 PM there are accessible cultural events to choose from. Hands-​on crafts, movies, talks, live music and a great dance party. And its all free! The most exciting part it that this is a genuine multi-​culti event. People of all races, sexual orientations, ages, all enjoying something together.

I’ve been to this event twice already and I’m in crush with this event. Like, hard.

This is as good as it gets, baby.

This event pretty much restored my faith in humanity and the world.
I loved EVERY single aspect of this event, even the waiting in line parts. I got see 2 live jazz/​soul/​hip hop shows, create a sculpture out of found objects, look at some AMAZING art and watch a community of people come together under this one museum roof.
Highlights of the night:
–watching cute little kids dance around energetically to any musical sound they heard.
–the Burning Down the House temporary exhibit– if you love feminist art, GO NOW.
–barely any lines at the bathroom despite how many damn people were there.
–the huge dance party from 9−11pm where I witnessed a father and his 2 year-​old son break dancing together.
–Exiting the museum and realizing it’s snowing outside!
–too many HOT men to count.
Coming from the fairy land of Los Angeles I am used to seeing the same ol folks at museum and museum events: white, old (ish) people. But not at the Brooklyn Museum. It felt so great to be able to share these fabulous activities with such a diverse community. I CANNOT wait for the next First Saturday.
