This place is the best ice cream in town, Ben & Jerry who??? One taste and you will know true happiness. Homemade and delicious. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. All I can say is, try it for yourself!!!

Super huge servings for a very very cheap price.($ 2.50 for two huge scoops) I’m surprised such a place exists. It’s a godsend! :D The ice cream is great; they have a large variety of different flavors to try. Check them out!

I grew up in Flatbush and used to come here every weekend. When we moved out to Queens, I would drive here just for the ice cream. The best flavor is Grape Nut. I caught myself buying vanilla ice cream and Grape Nut cereal to recreate the flavor. Not sure what I was thinking. Next time I’m in the area, I will get some. I agree with one of the other Unilocalers. The serving size is very generous. This is not the place you come to and order something corny like vanilla. If that is your intention, don’t waste your time. Live a little… try rum raisin, grape nut, mango or one of the other tropical flavored.

The Rum and Raisin Icecream is the best. Love this place. I’ve lived in the neighborhood for a while and now noticed this place. The Ice-cream flavors and servings are more than enough, so if you love ice-cream you WILLBE Happy to be here. My only negative is the décor, and the look of the store. Looks like it’s over 50 years old. I guess its going for a CLASSIC feel. Anyway, Ice-cream addicts/fans you gotta go here!!!

O gosh! This place really gets addictive ! They have a variety of tropical flavors that taste very yummy! I usually get the guava, butter peacan, rum and rasin, gunniess, omg I just love them all !! They also have sugar free ice cream … The Customer service is on point and the prices are reasonable especially for the potions you get !

The rum raisin was really good, with interesting flavor and actual, large raisins. The coconut was enjoyable at first but perhaps a tiny bit too greasy. In both cases the texture seemed more«real» than usual ice cream but this worked better on the rum raisin one.

Friendly, patient service. Reasonable prices. Generous portions. Delicious flavors. I’ve been to the Ice Cream Factory in Mt. Vernon, Westchester County, which has a large Jamaican population. Taste the Tropics has many of the same flavors — grape nut, rum raisin, sour sop, egg nog, banana — and the quality was very high. We bought three half pints and a cone, each with two flavors. The price was $ 12, The staffer was helpful and didn’t seem bothered by us asking for samples before making a decision. I’d come back to Taste the Tropics, even if it meant a detour from another part of Brooklyn.

I love the ice cream my only problem is how fast it melts. In the summer I buy tubs and bring them home. a ten minute drive and the ice cream is melted. looking like milk to drink. I bought a cone once for the kids. never again. they had to rush to eat it before the whole thing melted. The service is pretty slow, so expect to wait… forever.

Was on the hunt for Great Nut ice cream. Got there and there were such great deals that I got Great Nut and Rum Nut. YUMMMMMMMMM (only thing is, if you’re coming from the city, you better find a seat on the train and get comfortable, b/c its pretty far out).

I was born in Jamaica and seriously, this is the best great nut ice cream ever! I’m trying to find how to get some shipped to me in Houston!

I am a fan of any place that carries the flavors that can be found here. I do think they need to work on their Rum Raisin though… it was lacking in flavor. You can find all the yummy flavors of the tropics here… and that alone to this west coaster who almost never is able to find certain flavors(until I discovered Mitchell’s ice cream in San Francisco — BESTRUMRAISINEVER!) is a great plus. I love the fact they carry grape nut… soemthing you can’t find out West. Love it! I know this is a neighborhood business and what not, but come on… have pride in your work and business… I walked in ready to buy a pint of ice cream and the young man that helped me was so spaced out… he didn’t say anything… all the while I am looking at the flavors offered and then order my rum raisin. I give him the money(from which I should get change back) and he says thanks and goodbye… hold up… my change? I stayed until he did the whole register thing and he came back with my change… if you don’t want to work, then don’t… service is just as important as the product you sell… I will go back when in town… I am just hoping the young man in the back was either tired or having a bad day.

Never before have I been to such an unusual ice cream shop, and let me tell you, it felt as if I had to travel to another planet in order to find it. Beginning my journey in Park Slope in search of other foods, I decided to take advantage of my Brooklyn«trip» and walk all the way to Flatbush due to my cheapness and antagonism towards the subway system. Walking in here I was surrounded by cakes propped up on the walls, jars upon jars of various cookies, and a smattering of signs offering weird things like«Jamaican cheese» and«No returns on ice cream.» There are the standard flavors, but I decided to get three in a cup for $ 4.75; little did I know that the cup was almost literally pint-sized! I chose Irish Moss which had a lot of tasty nutmeg in it, grape nut which was literally strewn with softened grape nuts, and soursop, which to me might indeed the durian of the Caribbean. The ice cream, overall, is great, but one point which should be taken into serious consideration is its fast melting point. Though it starts off so hard you can barely dig your plastic spoon into it, it quickly begins drip-dropping(in my case it got all over my pants without my noticing until later when it had dried and my pants looked like Monica Lewinski’s dress). Service leaves a little to be desired but on the whole everyone is pretty laid back and friendly. Maybe I’ll be back for the guinness flavor.
