I always want this place to be better. Generally good food but the service is not very attentive and today, I was annoyed by a specific menu item — ordered the Greene Eggs and Ham, which comes with fried green tomatoes. I received the food and there was only a single tomato. It seems very petty but the food isn’t necessarily cheap and I’d expect to get more than one tomato slice when the menu clearly indicates multiple. Please figure out a better way to make money rather than skimping on the food itself

I’m surprised to see the negative reviews. just enjoyed brunch here. The brioche french toast was amazing and the three egg breakfast with a slab of bacon was equally good. We had our eggs scrambled with guerye and they were creamy and delicious. The mimosas with fresh squeezed orange juice are also amazing.

I’ve been here a few times now since moving to the neighborhood about a month ago(once for brunch, once for dinner) and have enjoyed the food on each visit. The biscuits and gravy are incredible and the filet burger was very good as well. They also make a very tasty Bloody Mary. I recommend it overall and will be back. But, I would like to make a comment on the service. The first time my husband, our 19-month old and I were together and had very good, attentive service. This evening, however, when it was just me and the kid at about 5:45, I found the service to be a bit underwhelming. It wasn’t exactly bad, but at the end of the meal, the check was dropped in front of me even before our plates were cleared. I wasn’t offered dessert(unlike another table across the room about 2 minutes prior) or even asked if I’d like to take my leftovers home — I had to ask for that myself. Now, I could understand if my kid was crying or misbehaving, but he was honestly exceptionally well behaved. Because of that, I would have allowed him a sweet treat as a reward but opted not to ask because it sort of felt like we were getting the bum’s rush — kind of rude when we were in and out in under 45 minutes. I could also see if they truly needed to turn the table, but this was not the case either. I’ll go back, but I think the standard level of service needs to be addressed. What better way to get your check average up than to dangle an ice cream«carrot» in front of a kid’s face?

This place used to be great, but it has really declined over the years. Yesterday I brought two people with me for brunch and it was really disappointing. We ordered the cuban sandwich, a quiche, some salad with an egg and salmon on it, and another salad. None of what we ordered was very good, but the main issue was that the greens were all so slimy. And I don’t mean that the red oak leaves were slimy while everything else was good. I mean that I was picking away 85% of the salad to try and get to one piece of good arugula. I don’t know if they have an issue with their storage, or if they’re dressing everything in advance of a big crowd. Whatever the reason, greens that are that collapsed shouldn’t make it to the table. But the fries were pretty good. A star for the fries. And another star for the desserts and for homemaking very small, very good donuts.

Bottom line: I’ll go here again. My friend and I went to dinner early on Saturday around 6 p.m. It was empty so we were able to sit anywhere we wanted. The atmosphere felt relaxing and there were some good tunes on. Our server was very polite and not at all intrusive. Being a non-drinker, I ordered hot apple cider, which was so delicious. As an entrée, I ordered the fried chicken and was a bit disappointed. The chicken was moist but way under-seasoned and the same went for my potatoes. The mashed potatoes had a slightly gummy quality to it, so I doused it in gravy. I loved the biscuit that came with it, though it could have arrived warmer and with butter or honey as a side. For dessert, I was dying to get the nutella pizza, but I was also craving the carrot cake, with a cup of black coffee. That was yum. Around seven, more people packed the restaurant, but it didn’t feel crowded, and I was still able to talk to my friend without having to scream. I’m curious to try the other entrees, so I’m definitely coming back.

Wenley M. and I were looking for Fort Grace Ice Cream & Sweet Shop and Google Maps led us to this location. The waiter inside told us that the sweet shop is actually a shack outside their location, but since it was raining, it wasn’t open. So we settled down for ice cream here. Our waiter was really patient and generous with the samples. All the ice cream are home made. They have some classical flavors and some exotic flavors, but I didn’t find the exotic ones to be that good, not to mention that it was $ 3 for one scoop.

We just had the worst brunch experience in recent memory here. We arrived around 2:15pm so the place was not crowded and we got a table easily. After placing our order, we waited for an hour with no food in sight, while all the tables around us got served. Starving, we inquired about the status of our food, only to be told that the«kitchen was backed up» — a poor excuse since there were many empty tables and people who arrived after us had gotten their food and left! We seriously contemplated just leaving and grabbing some fast food since we were so hungry and frustrated, but the food finally arrived. But it gets worse from there — the food had ZERO flavor. I had the huevos salvadorenos and it was flavorless! The staff seemed bored and not interested in working, and it took a while to flag someone down to inquire about our food or to get the check. Overall it was a HORRIBLE experience all around and we will definitely never return.

Decent Brunch. Restaurant was on a wait but the service was still decent. Took a while to be seen, but once we were greeted, the server was on point and got our order correct despite not writing anything down. I had the Kobe burger. Wife had the huevos dish with a side of bacon. Sister-in-law had the biscuit and gravy and the kids split a waffle with fruit. All the dishes above were really good, but i didn’t like the way they prepared their bacon. They leave the skin on, which makes it really crispy — like hard candy crispy — which made it difficult to chew without feeling like you were injuring your teeth. The burger was good but nothing spectacular. But I love a burger on brioche, so they have that going for them. The biscuit was prepared excellently — slightly«undercooked» to keep it nice and moist. The huevos was nice and the kids devoured their waffle. Also had some excellent, spicy Bloody Mary’s. But at New York prices for a small drink, couldn’t have more than one. Only complaints would be about the bacon as mentioned above, and I wish their coffee quality was a little higher end. Still a great brunch place.

The only brunch spot I’ve been to where the sunny-side eggs, bacon, home fries, and toast is bland. Like… how’s that even possible? Service is lousy, you can tell this b/c every time we go(about once every six weeks) the entire staff is new. If management doesn’t care enough to not have such massive staff turnover, then you know it bleeds down into quality of food and ingredients etc. The ambiance is great and in a fine location and the only reason why we go is b/c they open early at 9am. The last time we went, we decided we’d never come back but we totally forgot this on Saturday and remembered when we ordered the Crayfish w/sausage and the eggs were overcooked and the crayfish was disgusting and the side of okra was bad. Hopefully by writing a review I’ll remember in six weeks when I get up early and hungry to go back to bed and wait for ICI to open at 10am.

Very quiet at 8pm on a cold Sunday night, with empty tables around us and unobtrusive music. The young waiter was flawlessly attentive and the kitchen filled our orders in a flash. My girlfriend and I had a kale salad and a baby lettuce salad, with the beet entrée and a small fillet of salmon encrusted with something. A garnish of cold, salty baked apple cubes dismayed me, but the fish itself was good: crunchy and flaky. The meal was skilled, and priced in the mid-range for an indy Brooklyn restaurant. The kale salad, of all things, was the standout: the farro grains were big and chewy, they made the mouthy satisfaction of each bite last after the usual crunch of kale was over.

This was a fine enough place to go for a weekend brunch, but the food is nothing to write home about. I got the«create an omelet» option, but I HATE when the fillings of an omelet are not mixed with the egg and cooked into the omelet. At the General Greene the toppings were just folded in between the cooked eggs like a taco –that is not what I consider a REAL omelet. It wasn’t HORRIBLE, it just isn’t very special. My friend and I split the Chicken and Apple Sausage, and my friend captured the experience by saying«chicken is not meant to be sausage» it was very blah, it should have been pork sausage. For dessert we split their homemade sugared brioche raspberry doughnut, which I think was the best part of the meal but didn’t taste like fresh-out-of-the-oven homemade. The service was fine and our waiter allowed us to switch tables when the sunlight at our window became too much. I didn’t have a bad experience but I am not rushing to go back or recommend it to anyone.

Just finished brunch. Here is the update: The food we ordered: Cuban sandwich with fries– average. Huveros salavadorean — the waiter suggested this dish calling it different. I like different so I ordered it. It was ok– not special or outstanding. The service was good. The waiters were attentive. The atmosphere– casual comfortable vibe. Overall — the food is average. If you are in the neighborhood, hungry and want a decent then it’s an ok choice.

General Greene is often not my first plan, but when I end up here I always have a solid meal. For breakfast, the room is typically too crowded but you’ll get the standard dishes and walk away content. For dinner, it’s less crowded, so a much better time to go, but the menu can lack pizazz. Last night we got a hamburger(was tiny btw!) and roasted chicken. Both good, but not amazing.

Come on general greene, get it together! My husband and I have dined there quite a few times. It’s the only place in our neighborhood to eat biscuits and gravy, and there are some days where nothing else will do. Today was one of those days. We arrived around 1130 for brunch, pretty much fiending for a stiff drink and some tasty food. Our waiter was very inexperienced… My cocktail came out before our water, and it took a few tries for my husband to get his beer. Getting coffee was also a struggle. The coffee came, he asked for cream and sugar, and was brought the cream and then a few minutes later the sugar(which only had two packets in it, so we needed to request more with the refill). Normally I’m fairly patient, but this kid needed to do everything in 2 or more steps. So the next issue was the food. We’ve had some really good brunches at G. G, but the last few have been mediocre at best. The sausage gravy was surprising bland, and his poached eggs were overcooked and my fried eggs were undercooked. For me, it’s just not work the $$ when there are so many restaurants with better food and service in the area. Candied bacon is seriously delicious. I’ll most likely return and just buy that.

We stopped by the General Greene for a late lunch today and enjoyed delicious food and great service. It’s a decent sized restaurant with some cool decorative features and lighting. There is a decent sized bar as well as Fort Grace(walk up ice cream bar) just outside. The brunch and lunch menus are combined into one with various egg, omelette, waffle, french toast, burgers, and sandwich offerings. Prices were reasonable for the neighborhood and our waiter was friendly and attentive throughout. I tried the quiche of the day which had peppers, local corn, spinach, and Gruyère cheese. It was delicious and served with a side of greens with a light but tasty dressing. This was my first visit here but my dining mates had been here before and said sometimes the service and wait for food can be extremely slow, so may be good to aim for an off hour if you want a quick bite! They have a separate dinner menu with some yummy looking salads and entrees, as well as some mouthwatering desserts. Will have to come back for a dinner and drink sometime soon! Would recommend stopping here when in the neighborhood, perhaps before or after a trip to Fort Greene park, the farmers market, or the Brooklyn Flea.

Didn’t get to try the food menu but the pours were strong. Unique selection of cocktails made with housemade syrup(cinnamon, earl grey, chamomile). We were greeted and served by super friendly and smiley staff. The ambience is a classy kind of casual — semi-dim lighting, soft background music, and a simple wooden décor. Service was impeccable. And bonus points for having delicious ice cream steps away as Fort Grace is right next door.

A cute dinette/restaurant with plenty of seating, rustic, if not homely charm. It looks to be a great brunch place based. I also didn’t have the food here but based on the menu looks to be a family style shared plates establishment. Although typically up my alley, i wasn’t necessarily hungry. Just thirsty for a drink or two and on the drinks front, they didn’t disappoint. We tried the Sip n’ Pine and The Middleton and both were refreshing drinks well suited for sipping and carrying a conversation. Will return one day for grub but for now, i can attest to their bar’s prowess and service. They also have some in-house drafts on tap worthwhile exploring. Outside is a shack dubbed Fort Grace which serves up reliable ice cream for the neighborhood.

This is a solid 3 star restaurant. Nice neighborhood, rustic ambiance — but the food(whether brunch or dinner) never impresses. It’s fine, good enough — you will enjoy your meal. But, you will never remember it(mark my words). Just make sure you come here because you just need a restaurant that is located in a convenient spot for you and your friends. Don’t come here if you are a foodie. The highlight is actually the ice cream stand, Fort Grace, that is attached. They deserve 5 stars for their dark chocolate and salty caramel ice cream(order them together).

I’m new to the neighborhood, & this place came highly recommended by a friend of mine who has lived in Fort Greene his entire life. Decided to check it out around 6p on a Sunday afternoon after dying in bed from a post-birthday party hangover all day. Ambience: clean, bright, lots of natural light. rustic, natural wood & metal chairs, tables, and bar. Casual dress, attentive and knowledgable service, relatively low roar of conversation from the customers. Soft music. We sat at the bar & were immediately given water in these awesome, old school glasses. We ordered 2 bloody mary’s, which we were given options with(vodka, gin, tequila, etc etc). We went with a house-flavored pickle vodka. The bloody’s were perfect– thick-ish, spicy, fresh, bright. Came with a pickle, lemon wedge, pickled red pepper, and green olive. Meals: I ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes, corn bread and gravy– as well as a side of brussel sprouts. My friend ordered the pork tenderloin which came on a bed of sweet potato mash, with some greens and mushrooms. Both meals were absolutely fire! Our plates were clean. They have a ton of desserts that they make INHOUSE, and we didn’t get to try any this time but that’s only because we were so full /still sorta hung over. lol. Next time, forrrrr sure. This place is a must try, and the prices are really really great for the quality of service and food your receiving. I would go here with groups, kids, dates, friends, family, literally anybody. Awesome spot for awesome food. Oh, and they dim the interior lights as the day goes on, and put out candles, which gives it a really nice vibe. GO! & make sure you tweet them, cause they respond, and they are cool as hell. lol.
