The neighborhood is lucky to have this place – it is the best of the coffee shops. It’s not so much the coffee that makes it stand out. More the music playlist. I guess that is where the«variety» comes in. And they aren’t afraid to put on a few metal tracks once in while.

My favorite cold brew and super friendly staff. No frills and no BS. Just good coffee. I frequent this place often, as in ever single day. I have sleepily stumbled in once or twice without cash by accident and gotten a friendly«this one’s on me»(I thank thee coffee gods). I would dig a coffee rewards stamp card or something, and it’d be great if this location kept similar hours to the one up by the L but as long as I get my morning coffee, no complaints.

Simple place, good coffee, but keeps very short hours. Everyone saying the staff is friendly must have been somewhere else or had one lucky experience. I live in the neighborhood and have semi-frequented this location for over a year. There is only one employee that’s not consistently rude to customers. All the others make you feel like you’re ruining their day by placing an order.

5 star service. The barista was super friendly and didn’t make me feel dumb for not knowing that this place is cash only. The coffee was great and they had vegan peanut butter cookies. I would come here every day, but I buy everything with my credit card, because it’s 2015.

Excellent coffee goes without saying. But what I loved most about this particular location was how friendly and neighborhood-y the staff was. I’d come in a couple times a week and all the baristas knew my name and would chat with me. Kind of made me feel like I had a community spot, which was really cool! Miss it so much since moving away. Whether you’re looking for a straight black coffee or a whipped latter or hot cocoa, never had a bad cup from these guys. Highly recommend.

Variety on Driggs is pretty darn good. Not perfect, but pretty darn good. What I would never change: Stumptown beans, perfect temperatures on hot beverages without fail, simple menu without all that goofy stuff that may as well not have coffee in it, that one guy who is maybe the owner and therefore really quite nice. What I wish would change: lack of vegan pastries, closing super early, «meh» staff members who just don’t make me wanna go there(especially in the morning). Moral of the story, if you don’t feel like crossing on to the south side of Meeker, this is the place to be in Eastern Greenpoint, but if you have it in you, head over to Woodpoint & Withers.

The coffee is good. That’s really all that matters, isn’t it? I never thought I would describe a roast as «Nutty and creamy» but that is what theirs is. It’s heavenly.

Only 10 drinks on the menu. Which is a great thing, what they have they do well. Both the French press and the cold brew are great.

I kinda live in the same neighborhood as this place, but it’s definitely not the closest cute little coffee shop to me. However, I always walk the extra several blocks because this place rules! It’s cozy, yet still has huge windows so you can get great natural lighting. I go here all the time to work on my laptop or read a book. I’m sure it is also a great place to hang out, listen to hip tunes or even people watch. They’ve got great snacks and a damn fine cup of coffee. I also tried their cappuccino and it’s dangerous! Best cappuccino I’ve had in a long time.

You can’t go wrong with Variety iced coffee. Its $ 2.50 and delicious! This location is smaller and more intimate than their Graham avenue location and the staff to me, is much nicer. My only complaint about variety is that they seem pretty wasteful. In fact, I’m pretty sure they don’t recycle ANYTHING. It would be awesome if they offered some compostable cups or a green alternative.

Love this place. $ 2.50 is the best cold brew deal in town. The croissants are so-so though.

Great little neighborhood coffee spot. Staff is always friendly and playing good music. Only drawback is they open late, 8:00 am and close early, 4:00 pm.

Amazing coffee. Crappy hours. Ignore the phone number that’s listed for the Driggs address, it’s for a different location with different hours: guaranteed to mess up your morning, if you’re not on a trustfunder schedule.

Positives: stumptown coffee & blue sky bakery muffins. Feels like a neighborhood spot that locals visit? Negatives: no wifi, kinda rude service…

Just called on the morning of Frankenstorm/Hurricane Sandy. Variety answers«Hello, Variety! Open every day of the year!» Five stars.

A smaller version of their Graham stop sister store, this one is even better in my opinion, somehow because it’s smaller. After enjoying a shot of espresso, I munched down on a bran & fruit muffin while chatting with Cameron about coffee and what makes a good café. Cup quality. Made-to-order. Expert Barristas, good roasts. All these things were discussed in great detail, meanwhile a cute patron walks in with her dog, who proceeds to make fast friends with me. The place is also in the nether-lands, not as in the wonderful but tiny dutch country in Europe, but rather a far flung and according to google lesser or lower in position area. That of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Without a bicycle, this little outpost may not be particularly accessible, but that just makes it all the more charming. Plus it’s right across the street from the park. Sure to be back again soon. Try them!
