Soooooo sad to see that this place closed after only a few months. I have never had Venezuelan food before until this place opened, and I will say that if what they sold there was anything to go by, they did it gooooood!!! It really pains my heart tho. *sigh*…

Great and authentic Venezuela-style arepas and patacon. Really hit the spot. I will definitely go back. Best for take out mostly since there is just one two-top table inside.

I stopped by today at 5:30PM to give it a try but they were closed. Some one should update the hours of business. It’s definitely not 10 am to 10 pm.

I happened to drive by this cute little restaurant and what caught my attention was this huge Grand Opening sign and above it I see Patacón Arepas everything that is screaming Venezuela! Mental note to self must come back with hubby. Now finally I tell my hubby we should go checkout this place. It doesn’t take much convincing when I talk food. So away we go and as I’m reading the reviews my husband is driving faster. He then tells me he wants to get there as fast as he can because these reviews were making him more hungry and desperate. Low and behold parking in front! What??? This is Sunset Park no such thing exists. We’re over joyed as we step into this cute eatery. Checking out the menu and both go for the Patacón Mixto which is ham, chicken, beef, cheese, lettuce, tomato and garlic sauce between perfectly flattened crispy plantains and Cachapas which I didn’t realize they were hugeeeeee and we could’ve shared one. For beverages I got the Chicha like a thicker version of a Horchata and hubby got the Papelon a refreshing mixture of cane sugar and lime. Our Patacones are served and holy macaroni our eyes popped out like Wowwwwww these plantain sandwiches looked deeeeeelicioussssss. Now I’m thinking how do you eat this? There’s got to be a proper way of doing this and it’s not with a fork and knife. I was advised to wrap the sandwich and hold it tightly. Tear away the wrap as you just eat away at this yummy creation. I promise you’ll not be sorry!

As soon as I heard there was a new Arepa spot in Sunset Park I knew I had to try it out. Decided to go with the pork arepa, chicken arepa and the chicken empanadas. Granted two Arepas is more than enough for one person as the cornmeal is very filling. The Arepas were very good the pork in particular was my favorite. A bit greasy but a little grease won’t kill you right?! Anyhow the arepa with the house green sauce was good! The green sauce is a must! I really was not too crazy about the empanadas. Seemed like there was a lot more of the cornmeal than the chicken. To each is own but definitely not for me. I will be frequenting this place for some arepas and would also like to try the patacon. Great prices I highly recommend!

The food is amazing!!! I was just randomly browsing Unilocal and found it. Ordered a beef patacon for lunch. Plantains filled with beef ham cheese lettuce tomato. It was so flavorful fresh and juicy. That garlic sauce was freaking delicious! Delivery took about an hour but it was worth it. Can’t wait to try other things! The lady on the phone was nice enough to give us brunch prices even though they don’t deliver for brunch items because their kitchen was having issues. I hope they fix their phone because I had to call about 5 times before they finally picked up!!! And since then we have been unable to get through to order lunch. Such a shame cause the food is great!

Check out my picture for new hours of operation. It says they are open Tuesdays to Saturday now. I came here because sunset park will always be my homegrown neighborhood and a placed filled with great one«$» spots to eat at. I’ve also really wanted to try Venezuelan food. So I came here twice already with another return trip or 142 possible. The place is really small with only 1 table that seats 2 and the rest is counter top and maybe seating for 10 more people. It was also very hot the days I went and they have no AC and the door opened. The second time me and my friend received quite a few mosquito bites. That papelon was awesomely refreshing. It may be made from sugar cane but it’s not sweet as sweet as you would expect. The soothing lime with a little lime pulp hits the spot. I also had the chicha which I was expecting to be a horchata. It came out thicker than a horchata, there was some rice in it, I felt like I was drinking a milky rice pudding. Not great if you are pairing it with food. I also had the pork arepa and de pabellon arepa with beef. The pork was shredded and the beef cubed, both really good. It also came with amazing green sauce. But for both arepas it was the corn and plantain(for the de pabellon) that held the arepa together that was really standout from sandwiches i/m used to. It was crispy on the outside, soft and a little sticky inside. The plantain one was very flavorful, made the arepa sweet and savory. The mosquito issue won’t be a problem soon. *enter best winter is coming meme* My friend was’t able to order her breakfast arepa because they didn’t have eggs *eyes doing 360’s, they are next to a giant supermarket* I’ll still be returning again to try the rest of the menu!

Came here after hearing about it from my friends. Since I spent two years growing I Up in Caracas arepas is one of my absolute favorite food in the world and i have been to other spots in New York such as Caracas in the city(pretty good) but I jumped for joy when I heard a spot opened up closer to home where I wouldn’t have to train to st marks just to get authentic arepas! I came here yesterday and ordered the beef arepas I wanted to order the all day breakfast arepas as well but apparently they sold out of eggs? So I was dissapointed at that. Maybe next time? When I first walked in and I saw the cans of pirucream I thought to myself this place is definitely legit, I have not found any other place or store in New York that sells this and it’s my absolute favorite chocolate wafers in the world! The chocolate hazelnut wafers they sell at cvs and Walmart just doesn’t come close to this(must try guys! The small cans are $ 5 and the bigger can is $ 7) They have 2 specialty drinks here one is sugarcane with lime which is light and refreshing and also taste like a mojito to me(really enjoyed it!) and the other one sounds like it has similar ingredients as horchata but it’s thicker and less cinamon(tried it and thought it wasn’t bad, but I prefer the sugarcane with lime better) My beef arepas was steaming hot and made fresh to order! The crust was perfection and brought me back to childhood, the only time I’ve had this taste was at Caracas(the restaurant in the city) or when my dad/grandma makes it. The beef was good as well just super oily and I wished they provided forks or spoons for us to use. I expected myself to still be hungry after one arepas but to my surprise it was pretty filling. And OMG the green sauce they give you is bomb diggity! Best green sauce I’ve ever had, beats all the taco joints on fourth Ave! Final thoughts, I am so glad this place opened up in sunset, the food is good and so are the drinks! My only suggestion for them is please provide plastic forks or spoons and please find a way to get rid of the mosquitoes swarming my leg as I was eating(found 5 huge mosquito bites after I was done) and it would be nice to have a sink if not a bathroom to wash my hands of all the oil and grease from the arepas :/

First time eating Venezuela food and am so glad I tried it. The place is very small, fits about 8 – 10 people on counter top and 3 – 4 ppl on the one and only table. The drink was very good and refreshing but overpriced for the size. I had the pork with fresh mozarella. It was well stuffed, not too little meat yet not too much. Meat was tasty and moist and with cheese. I could taste the fresh corn pancake. Will definitely come back and try other stuff. Please up your size in the drinks as it is a very small cup!

The hours of operation for this place on Sundays are: 10:00 am — 10:00 pm. I went there on a Sunday(08/09/2015) around 5pm and this place was closed without any notification. I went there on a Saturday 08/15/2015 around 12pm. The hours of operation for Saturdays are: 10:00 am — 10:00 pm. When we got there it was closed. We were shocked. Someone came and they told us they would open around 130pm. Fine, we waited until 130pm because we wanted to try this place so bad because the FB pics from friends looked delicious. When they finally opened around 130pm, we went in and we decided to order our lunch. We noticed this: 1) Lunch specials are for Mondays thru Fridays ONLY. It was written in nowhere that it was from Mon-Fri. Only time from 12pm to 3pm is written. They should be specific in their menu on which days this option applies! 2) They didn’t have buns for hot dogs… Weird… 3) They didn’t have black beans for Pabellon Arepa. OMG, Seriously!!! Pabellon Arepa is the most commonly eaten arepa in any Venezuelan restaurant and they were not selling them… Weird again… 4) They didn’t have Tequenos of Ham and Cheese… Only Tequenos of Cheese… Wow, at this point we were wondering what does this place have??? 5) We were told before that Hallacas would be sold every 15th of the month, but at that day we were told they changed to only Xmas time… By this time I already have the gist that the list of missing items would go on… 6) We ordered Pork Arepa, and they told us they didn’t have pork… Weird again… 7) So I ordered a beef arepa instead. Normally a beef arepa should be made with shredded beef only. But this one was made with beef shaped in cube form and with cheese… Maybe this is the way they do it and they would like to differentiate themselves from other places… Ok I gotta give you that! 8) I ordered a Reina Pepiada which consists in chicken and Avocado. The avocado was raw and hard to chew… Dear, at this point I started to wonder what else could possibly go wrong… 9) It was a hot Saturday and we were wondering if the AC, a fan, or anything was on. We looked a the ceiling and there was no fan. There was an exhaust for AC but it seems the AC or fan wasn’t on… Oh God… The only good thing that left us with good impression was the Cachapa. It was a big portion and very tasty… This place may have the potential to succeed and maybe(MAYBE) we were in the wrong time to unluckily experience above. But, those are too much to experience in one day. This place already gave me the feel of Venezuela: no paper, no maize, no nothing! Let me remind you that this is the US. Punctuality, consistent service, and consistent menu can take your restaurant to the next level. Excuses are not accepted. You can lie to yourself but facts are facts. Once you lose customers you are done… I will definitely not come back to this place again!

The place is small. It sits about 15 people. I went with my sister for lunch. We ordered from the brunch menu, which is a little cheaper. It consists of combinations of arepa(s) and a drink, or patacón and a drinks, and other combos. I ordered a patacón mixto and a papelón. I was really pleased with my food. The patacón also came with a side of guasacaca, which is like a dipping sauce of good stuff(I don’t know what guasacaca is made of). My sister ordered an arepa pabellón. She was not impressed by it. I did not taste it but I did notice that the beef was cubed and not shredded, which how pabellón is usually served. I would come back for more patacones. And try the other stuff. My sister didn’t seem like she’d recommend this place.

Everything was good except the cachapa which we ordered as takeout and found at home that it was looking burned a lot, tasted more like pancake with cheese. Im Venezuelan.

Dear every other Venezuelan restaurant in New York City, please sit down. There is officially a new best Venezuelan spot in NYC! It is only a matter of time before this little spot across from an elementary school is winning all of the awards! I will say, yes, better than Arepas Caracas in the Lower East Side! We went tonight and had the arepas de pabellón and patacónes and drank the chicha and panela de limón and seriously, we were licking our fingers once we were done! It was absolutely mouth watering delicious! Fresh ingredients, excellent sazón, super friendly staff, fairly priced menu! I cannot recommend this place enough!!!

We live in the area and just happened to walk by this place on a sunny Sunday afternoon. We decided to walk in thinking that we’d support local business as well as trying something new. So glad we did! We went with the staff recommendation of plantano mixo($ 8). When the dish came out, we were so surprised. It looked amazing! Not the fancy restaurant type of amazing, but the homely and non-pretentious kind. There is one vertical half of a nicely fried plantain on the top of the dish, barely covering a generous pile of grilled chicken and beef. Underneath the plantain, there is one slice tomato and some sauce. At the very bottom(we found out after devouring the top half of the sandwich) was the second half of a fried plantain(hence, the plantain sandwich) as well as cheese and grille ham. Served on the side was a delicious green garlic sauce. At the beginning, we were cautious to pour the sauce on the side. The meat were so good by itself that we didn’t want the dished ruined in case we didn’t like the sauce. Next time, we will pour the sauce ALLOVER! It’s a nice creamy textured sauce that tastes refreshing and amazing with the rest of the sandwich. The two of us share one plantano sandwich, since we were only looking for an afternoon snack. I’d say it’s a very healthy portion and will likely make someone pretty full after one sandwich. This is place is definitely worth a try. I will be coming back for other things on the menu.

If you’re looking for a place to find fresh flavors, friendly staff, and good eats then look no further than this cozy, little Venezuelan joint on 6th avenue here in Sunset Park. I can only hope that my review will inspire many others to come and pay tribute to this amazing eatery! When you first walk in it doesn’t seem like much, there’s high-top seating all around if you want to eat-in(and believe me, you will) but they also offer pretty fast take-out if you’re looking to enjoy your goodies in the comfort of your own home. Did I mention that there is an adorable revolving door between the kitchen and the dining area??? Wild west saloon style!!! Needless to say, the décor and atmosphere is quaint(can’t wait for hipsters everywhere to get their hands on this now). But enough about first impressions, lets get down to the GRUB! The main attraction of this experience, of course, is the AMAZINGFOOD. Not just amazing in taste, but amazing in value! The menu is pretty small, but they offer plenty of variety and believe me, they do not disappoint! My boyfriend got a Pork and Cheese Cachapa, which is a buttery, Venezuelan corn pancake stuffed with melted mozzarella cheese and loaded with pernil(pork), YUM. I had the pleasure of ordering the Patacon mixto, which is a healthy serving of both chicken breast and steak piled-high with ham, cheese, lettuce, and tomato, sandwiched between two fried plantains and smothered in this amazingly fresh garlic sauce! Droooolllllll. Oh and I’m not talking about a couple of tostones, they use ANENTIREPLANTAIN to make each sandwich. Being Dominican, I basically died and landed in platano heaven!!! The real deal at this place are the portions, I’m talking Fred Flinstone-sized servings of everything for super cheap! We couldn’t even finish our respective meals, and trust me, my boyfriend can put it away! We both got full for under 20 bucks, with Metrocard fare to spare. The people who work here are also a credit to their profession and heritage, they are super hospitable and extremely friendly and they really make you feel like you’re just sitting on a porch somewhere in Venezuela, sipping Papelon(Venezuelan lemonade) on a sunny afternoon! Please, if you’re in the area don’t hesitate to check them out! I promise you won’t regret it! Happy Unilocaling!
