The food here is excellent, as is the service. Can’t wait to come back for their amazing samsas, rice pilaf, and shish kebabs! The best kosher food in Brooklyn!

This place catered an event I attended today. It was some of the best food I’ve ever had in my life. I had the salmon skewers and a bunch of vegetarian dishes. Everything was so fresh and full of flavor. It really is rare to find food this good. Now I just need an excuse to eat this food again.

I have been here many times and let me tell you this place never seems to disappoint. The shish kebabs here are so yummy. You must try their samsas. It’s perfection. This place is definitely a must try in the Brooklyn area. Very nice service and delicious food.

Yum! Delicious and beautiful red cabbage, cabbage, eggplant and carrot salad(think it was called the mixed salad). Hummus, bread, samsa — fantastic! Hidden gem.

I have to tell you of probably the worst restaurant service i have ever encountered . My wife and I went as part of a group of 40 people to this restaurant and literally from beginning to end from the service, to the food, to the deejay it was a horrible experience. We were cramped at two long tables and one waitress plus the owner were our waiters. The dishes were totally inadequate in portion size that once a person took some, there was virtually nothing left for others. When questioned about the portions I was told for more money I would get more food… the main courses served buffet style were cold and small in size and created a totally exasperating experience. while one table was served soup, the other table was not. One bottle of soda,…no ice and one bottle of water was all the refreshments provided Waiting for service was horrible and both the waitress and the owner were planted in seats near the entrance of their kitchen and texting on their cellphones! When I approached and asked for desert and coffee to our table he realized he forgot to serve and jumped up to bring us some stale pastries on a plate and ran out of both decaf and regular coffee. The DJ for our night there replayed 4 songs twice and apologized for mixing things up… sound quality was as poor as her performance All i can say is save your money and please fine any other place than this horrible place they call a restaurant

The best Russian middle Eastern restaurant in Brooklyn. The salads, the kabobs and the soups were so delicious. My husband and I will go every Sunday night from now on. The owner David is very friendly and welcoming. The hostess was the sweetest girl. Hands down the best restaurant in Brooklyn.

I am giving two stars purely because of the quality of the meat kebabs. My girlfriend and I had the lunch special today. The quality of the special was lacking. First came the lagman. The soup had an overwhelming sour and bitter flavor, which has been lacking in other versions I’ve had. The noodles were also on the mushy side, and the meat was sparse and lacking. The salad offered was a crisp cabbage salad that was pleasant, mildly flavored, and nice and crisp. We ordered samsa, as well. They came with a delighful red sauce that had sweet, tart, and garlicky notes to it, and went well with the samsa, which were flaky, and the meat was not at all juicy or greasy(which my girlfriend enjoyed, but I wasn’t so keen ofn. For entrees, my girlfriend had a respectable rendition of plov, and I had two lamb kebabs and ordered a lula kebab on the side. The meat was actually delicious, and was the best part of the meal. I had mine with a very small portion of rice, which the waitress said was taken from the plov, but was lacking in carrots. The atmosphere left much to be desired, as the restaurant was dark and empty(which should have been a warning sign), and on a warm day like today, there was no air conditioning or fan turned on. The menu also lacked cheburek, which is delightful from Bukharian restaurants, generally the only kosher source for the delectable goodness of moist, juicy meat and onions fried in a crisp dough. The real issue came with the waitress’s attitude, which was cold, standoffish, and demonstrated complete and utter misanthropy, and with the check. I read Russian, and knew that the pricing was off. The lunch specials were $ 9.99 each, and they charged us $ 21.00; the owner/manager said that because I ordered lamb, they added $ 1 extra. He claimed that the only kebabs that are included in the lunch special are lula and chicken. I specifically asked the waitress when I ordered if I could order 2 lamb kebabs as part of the special, and she seemed to answer in the affirmative. My extra lula kebab was listed on the menu as costing $ 2.99, and they charged me $ 3.50. This was outright deception and lying in advertising. When I protested that his terms and conditions and invented prices are nowhere on the lunch menu, his response was that«glatt kosher meat is expensive.» While they are free to charge as they wish, they should at least be honest on the menu about their prices and policies. It would avoid a good deal of confusion and angry customers. For these dishonest policies and for a sour lagman, I’d be very reluctant to return.

I used to love this place, came here for many years. Last time I came here, brought a company and told them how I loved the place, and thats when I got a surprise. All food was being wormed up in microwave. I made a comment to owner, so he threw a joke at me; do you need anything else wormed up? They claim to be glatt kosher. I witnessed a bottle of not kosher wine being pured into cups.

I hate to give this place a 3 star review but … 1) They burned my leposhka(bread) 2) The lagman was served cold 3) The waitress hated life 4) The dessert we ordered was not the one delivered to us 5) The tea took about 20 minutes to arrive All sub 5 star caliber moves on their part. For all you people with cars and from Brooklyn, you may want to check this place out just to see how much food you can actually stuff inside you in one sitting. If you are Russian, then the answer is ALOT. On the bright side, the Samsa(meat filled pastry) and shishkebabs were good. The manager, David, was also a pleasant man who engaged us in frequent conversations. It was a slow night and I assume he was bored/interested in what was going on at our table.

Vostok refers to the east in Russian and that gives you an idea of the sort of food you’ll find here. Eastern Russian food. That means Bukharian food. If you like meat then this is the sort of place for you. The beef kebabs were amazing. They were the first medium beef kebabs I’ve ever tried and the flavor was amazing. They were complemented well by the fresh baked flat bread and hummus, spicy carrots, and just about everything else that was served to us. I didn’t actually get a look at the menu, but enough food for five people to thoroughly have their fill as well as tax and tip came out to $ 30 a head. For the amount served that seems very reasonable. If you want to read another review of this place, head over to gothamist and read through theirs. Oh I almost forgot an important note. This is a largely Russian place, which means you are generally welcome to bring your own bottle(or three). That makes this a great place to go if you want to just sit down with some friends for a few drinks and food without having to worry about cleaning up they way you would at your own house. Try it out, it is a fun experience at the least and a great night out otherwise. Five stars for the food, the rest doesn’t matter as much.
