When In Rome

I walked into When In Rome in a state of total crisis: my hair had tied itself into a knot the size of a baseball and I thought I’d have to chop it all off. Kristin and Lainey welcomed me right in, took out all their best tools, and patiently and kindly spent an hour untangling the knot. They got it out! It was an act of absolute genius. A few days later I came back for a haircut, to trim the ends that got damaged in the knot. I got a beautiful cut that I love, super affordable, wonderful service, and now Kristin and Lainey are two of my favorite ladies in the neighborhood. This will become your hair’s new home! You will love When In Rome.

This place is really cool Been going for years there’s a relaxed vibe that makes you feel comfortable and the stylists always go the extra mile to make sure you leave satisfied and now they offer wine :) definitely recommend this salon if your looking for a new stylist we all know how scary that can be

While in Brooklyn for our brother’s wedding, we booked appointments here for 1 haircut and 3 up dos. While they did provide us with appointments on short notice, the charge was a bit deceitful. Haircuts include shampoo and blow dry which I did not require. Additionally, our updos were just some basic curls and a braid half up half down. Even at that uncomplicated service, we were up charged $ 35. Additionally, multiple advertisements around the salon offered 15% new clients. All 3 of us were new clients but because one treated the other 2 to the bill, no discount was offered to them. We generously tipped the hairdressers and despite a call to resolve the unfair payment issues, the salon would not comply. This $ 65 discrepancy reflects dishonorably on this salon for services that were simple and standard in a salon that was otherwise empty on a busy Saturday in Brooklyn. For the inflated cost, I would recommend a more professional salon elsewhere in the area.

Went here for the first time recently to get some highlights and was underwhelmed. Stylist did not speak English well and did something totally different than I wanted, not horrible but definitely not what I asked for. When I tried to explain what went wrong she just got more confused. Prices were high and the vibe was sad and empty. Not what I’m looking for in a neighborhood salon.

I was in desperate need of a haircut I live around the corner from the salon so I thought I would give it a try I was booked with a wonderful stylist named Jay she took her time cutting my hair and styled it beautifully I will definitely go back very happy with my cut thanks again when in Rome

I went to the salon to get my haircut I’m usually not sure how to get across how I want my haircut probably because I’m not to sure myself how I want it I was booked with a stylist name lainie she was very helpful helping me figure out what would work best with my everyday lifestyle
And what would look good with my facial shape I haven’t been this happy with a haircut in a long time. Thank you so much and the wax she sold me was awesome see you soon

I came in for a color –the atmosphere was amazing & not to mention it was very clean. The woman who did my hair did a great job. The color came out correct and the blow dry following was done very nicely. While sitting with my color I was able to get my eyebrows & face waxed !
The woman who shampooed my hair did an awesome job & the price couldn’t be beat! I defently recommend anyone to check this place out !!!

I recently went to this salon after my long time stylist unfortunately left I was so happy to meet Laine she took her time to make me feel comfortable and answered all my questions she actually improved the haircut and color I was stuck in a rut with for so long thanks again Laine see you in 8 weeks =)

Great little salon with friendly stylists. I came here for a blowout. It costs a tad more than a place like Drybar or BDry, but the place is so so convenient for me that I’m willing to pay the extra.
The lady who washed my hair was sooo great. Honestly, they need to have services where you just get your hair washed. It’s so relaxing and the shampoo and conditioner smelled like eucalyptus and it had a wonderful cooling sensation. She also spent a good amount of time massaging my head and neck. They actually had two stylists working on my hair. I asked for some body and loose waves and that’s what I got. It looked very cute and but didn’t last as long as blowouts I get from other places, but my hair tends to be finicky like that.
Glad to have this place in the neighborhood and I’ll be back.

Awesome haircut place. I had my haircut for 15 years in Manhattan (moving from uptown to downtown at a few places), and I was nervous about trying somewhere new. This place is the best haircut I’ve had in NYC! They are very smooth, listen to what I want, and are sharp with the details.
I had my wife and kid go here later. The kids haircuts are by far the best in the area, and we have tried several other places. They make my son look more handsome with a cut that would fit an adult. They use a dry sponge to brush away the hairs from his face. Very smooth.
Once I saw one of the people here cutting a woman’s very long hair. She had put a towel on the floor and was kneeling down to get a better view while snipping away. Impressive.
All in all a fantastic place.

Just recently moved into the area and needed a haircut. I came across when in Rome not too far from where I live. This place has a great environment and the staff are easy going. I got my haircut from Esther, which she did an amazing job on. I’m usually a picky person when It comes to getting my haircut, but she understood what I wanted and took her time with my hair. Excellent place and I’ll be back again soon!

Great blow dry from Esther. She was thorough, and kept checking in to make sure it was to my liking. I was having photos taken the next day, so she didn’t put a lot of product in and my hair held up beautifully. In fact, my hair help up for 6 days!

My daughters and I have started coming here for blowouts because we live close by. Everyone is friendly and fun music to enjoy. Head massage during wash is wonderful. Blow dry for long hair lasted for days. Great addition to neighborhood. Easy to schedule appointment. Selfishly I hope they don’t get too busy so that it’s hard to get convenient appointments.

Great to go to for blow outs! I live in the area and go often. I recommend going. The owner is also very nice.

This review is long overdue. This is second time I have had my hair done by Esther and I will never go to anyone else. When I moved into this neighborhood about a year ago, I tried another hair salon and had the worst hair cut of my life. I thought it was unfixable without cutting my hair very short but Esther saved my hair! I went to her a week later and she was honest and upfront about the fact that she could blend and make it look better but would need it to grow out some before it could be completely fixed. She did a great job blending the layers in the meantime and it was livable for the next few months. I just went back for the second time and requested her again, and loved what she did this time as well! She is friendly, professional, and great at what she does. The blowout was great too! I had so many compliments the next day. Definitely love this salon and Esther and won’t be going anywhere else.

Walked in on a Friday night, got a great trim from Ester, along with an amazing scalp massage during the hair wash. She really took her time and was extremely thorough with the cut. The price was very reasonable and it was a pleasant experience from start to finish.
