2012 Review #54: I don’t really think about shoes being something that one buys at indepedent retailers. I mean, even if the retailers are independent, the shoes aren’t. Not many rogue shoe makers out there, that I know of. Aldo is everywhere, and I guess I’d call it sort of middle-class footwear. Nothing too expensive, but not Charlotte Russe or Forever 21 cheap. You can get some crazy looking shoes here but you can also get some practical footwear. Men, especially, have a pretty nice selection of work appropriate shoes. Unlike cheaper shoe retailers, my shoes from Aldo really have held up. I’ve bought probably 5 – 10 pairs of shoes here and all have held up pretty well. I did buy some boots that stopped being watertight, but that’s about all. I also scored a clutch purse here that I was desperately trying to match to a dress. Not only did they have something, the saleswoman gave me a discount because she liked my purse and they needed to increase their accessory sales. Pretty nice deal. The men’s shoes are generally around $ 75 – 100 a pop, and they hold up ok. They can be re-soled, which is good because the top of the shoes tend to hold on to their shape and not show wear. When my husband was wearing his Aldo shoes every single day, they wore out in about a year, which isn’t great but isn’t terrible either. I still stop in here most times I’m at the mall, but I do like to stick to the sales.

The shoes feel very manufactured and cheap. I think perhaps I’m a bit old for this brand. It feels like a teeny-bopper type of establishment.
