I love Kmart. I HATE the fact that there is never a quick checkout procedure at the Brunswick store. I suspect that isn’t the fault of the store personnel, rather it’s due to decisions made at the corporate level. Why can’t customers simply go through the check out line without having to play 20 questions? No. I don’t want to donate to March of Dimes. Stop asking every time. I don’t want my receipt emailed to me. Stop asking every time! I don’t want to wait an extra 5 – 10 seconds for unsolicited coupons and offers to print out. Although I am a rewards member, I’ve stopped admitting to it in an effort to speed up the check out process. Whatever the perceived savings are that come from being a member don’t outweigh the additional hoops I need to jump through at the register. If there are 4 or more people in line ahead of me, I begrudgingly anticipate a longer than necessary wait because of their interminable and annoying check out process. I will typically ask myself, «Do I REALLY need what I have to justify standing in line longer than necessary due to their god-awful check out experience?» I will often drive 8 miles out of my way to go to WalMart or Target in an effort to avoid the drawn out Kmart cashier experience. It’s bad enough that only 1 to 2 lanes are ever open at this particular store, it’s worse when the whole flow is slowed down to a trickle because the powers that be at the corporate level decided to force their customers to be part of a quiz show for even the most simple transaction. I KNOW I’m not the only one who feels this particular frustration. I’ve talked to others in line with me and they usually concur. I’ve talked to friends and acquaintances outside your store and they usually concur. As I said, at the beginning, I love Kmart. I’m sad to see so many stores close in recent years. Kmart has been a part of my life since I was a child and I’m sorry that they are slowly disappearing from the landscape. This store is a definite benefit to the people of Brunswick, but honestly, if they don’t modernize their store and improve their customer experience SOON, it’ll be yet another vacant retail shell that plagues this city.

This is one of the places you promise never to return to because of slow service and an outdated atmosphere. Yet, somehow you always end up back here. I think just out of convenience really. Oh well, I know I’ll be back, but that doesn’t mean I like it.

I don’t shop at these places very much so maybe I am not as qualified to review as say, someone that DOES shop these places more… But dang… the place needs freshened up!!! Feels like the same air that has been rebreathed since 1978!!! It’s not big but that is okay… We found what we were looking for but the store just felt claustrophobic with everything being crammed so close together… Isles were TIGHT and there was a drain pipe right in the middle of a housewares isle that if you had a cart you were screwed… Maybe it should get 3 stars but I was so underwhelmed that I am sticking with two…

Well, I was here two weeks ago so unless they closed since then… I wouldn’t be surprised though. These people are not the smartest of the bunch. They apparently had never heard of an exchange.
