My wife and I have been enrolled in the Martins Point Healthcare Medicare Advantage program since we returned to Maine. We have had nothing but problems, first with our PCP and then with customer service. They are the most unresponsive health insurer I have ever seen. I have initiated a complaint concerning a recent exam from my PCP. The response from Martin’s Point has been a joke. I think they are afraid to confront their own medical staff if there is a problem. I have since been forced to change PCP and issue a complaint with CMS. I hope this has some effect on their response time and perhaps they will loose their prized five star rating. Look elsewhere for a Medicare Advantage Plan, you do get what you pay for.

Let’s start with this: my family went to MP on Farley Rd. & had many problems with that location. We switched to Bowdoin Medical on Baribeau Drive because of these problems, and so you can only imagine what my mother had to say when they became a part of MP.(Hint: she was less than thrilled). HOWEVER, we have stayed at the Baribeau location because of the amazing PCP(Dr. Carr) that we have here. She’s understanding, she listens to her patients, and she’s honest without sugar coating the issues at hand. I also always feel comfortable discussing my concerns/needs/issues with her, unlike at Farley Rd., where they wouldn’t even X-ray me to make sure I didn’t break my ankle when I was 13. They just manipulated my injured ankle and told me I had a sprain… Wanna talk about some massive pain that I still deal with 12 years later. I have also seen the PA, Kathleen O’Brien who is also an absolute delight! I’m a-okay when I’m told my PCP isn’t available, but she is. So, with that said: I would not recommend Farley Rd MP, but for sure would recommend Baribeau Drive. They’ve got their stuff together over here.(:

Martin’s Point Healthcare is completely awful and I would not recommend them for a couple of reasons. Number 1, they dismissed my Mother’s lung scan because she was not a smoker. After another scan three year’s later she had to push for a diagnosis of lung cancer– by then it was stage 4. The Doctor was useless and the PA had to push to get a diagnosis from an oncologist at another Facility because my Mother kept going back– not feeling well. The same Doctor took my Mother off of blood thinners for a surgery(5 years prior) and she ended up with a blood clot in her lung that weekend. When I asked for MP to investigate my Mother’s file I was told they would, however, I would not be told the results. Therefore, I am posting here to warn others of their irresponsibility with their patients and the fact the family will be given no solace or support. My Mother passed away from the lung cancer less than a year from having to push for answers. Second– their billing department. They are now claiming my Mother was not a member and will not pay her last two Ambulance bills. They also denied her hospital bill because it was coded incorrectly, but they will not contact the Hospital(Portsmouth Regional) so I continue to get invoices 6 months after my Mother’s death. You know– the death caused by the lung cancer that was missed by Martin’s Point. I am now calling all providers to settle her estate so that we can move on as a family and deal with her death that came much too soon. I personally was also a patient and left after billing issues. They would send my $ 5 blood test invoices to a collection agency without ever sending me an invoice. I have one that still sits on my credit report today. They would not take a co-pay at the counter, so instead they would send you an invoice for $ 5 to deal with. They also did not submit a bill for me to my insurance and I received an invoice from them two years later. My Company had since changed insurance providers so I had no information on my old plan to give them for payment. I had to dispute the invoice. I won because they had no excuse for sending it to me two years later. Last words of advice– if you go there– advocate for yourself medically and push for a correct diagnosis and care. Perhaps because they have so many elderly patients they just think they can get away with this substandard level of care. And their Billing Department needs to be fired and replaced. Incompetent to say the least. Dealing with them when you are healthy is bad enough nevermind if you are also dealing with the death of a loved one.

The front desk people are awful to deal with. They have screwed up my husband’s appointments more times than I can count, and refuse to take responsibility for doing so. Thanks to their utter incompetance, a procedure he needs to have done at the hospital has been delayed for three months. Despite assurances that he’d be given an appointment during the brief time he was stateside, it wasn’t done, so he had to wait another 5 weeks. Martin’s Point staff will not return my calls on this matter, so I’m still not sure if he’ll be seen before shipping out again. Thanks, Martin’s Point, for making a stressful situation even more so.

Poor customer service. Front office is contentious and negative when scheduling of appts. Certain doctor does not listen to their patient. We switched primary care managers for our entire family.
