I used to enjoy this place, but the service has gotten poor, it’s too hot and they won’t turn the fans on, and the food is just so-so. A friend of mine went about a month ago and it will be his last visit also — he ordered fajitas and extra guacamole, went to use the restroom and came back to his table being bussed clean. The owner refused to give him his meal free — he had barely eaten any of it. That is not how you treat a customer.

Ordered fajitas and requested onions well done. When served mine appeared to be the same as the other dishes and when questioned, the waitress said«they are all well done». Probably will not return because of that plus the fajitas weren’t that outstanding anyway. Will go to Chuy’s next time.

Yummy, I love the cheese enchilada plate. They defiantly have the BEST enchiladas in Bryan College Station! They are also vegetarian friendly, if you don’t order meat then you won’t get it on your plate. Enchiladas, beans and rice are lard free. They are also very family friendly.

Meh. I don’t know what I just ate, I ordered«Tacos al pastor» with grilled steak, cilantro and onions. I saw a little speck of cilantro and an overpowering taste of lime. did not taste like tacos al pastor at all! The rice and charro beans were bland. The chips were good but the salsa tasted like it came from a bottle.(reminded me of Pace picante sauce!) But five stars go out to my server, she was super friendly.

I guess this place used to be good? I’ve eaten here several times, at the request of others. Never once enjoyed the meal.

I can only vouch for the Fried Avocado. It was awesome! This is worth trying, twice! Very filling and heavy, but an enjoyable meal to be sure! In old town Bryan, so good ambiance and excellent service! I will be back… Hopefully!

While I am not a huge fan of Mexican food or its different versions(within the US), Papa Perez is for me one of the best in town. I love their stuffed avocado and always recommend it to visitors we take there. Staff is friendly and the environment is nice. Again, while Mexican is not my first choice, when we do eat it, we go to Papa Perez because I know what to expect in terms of food and service.

Sad story in Downtown Bryan This is a great example of how a restaurant goes down the toilet. Service is poor. Waitstaff cannot be inconvenienced to wait on their tables. Food quality continues to decline. Not sure what has happened here, but this used to be a #1 pick for an evening in downtown. It used to be recommended to all my friends. Not anymore. It seems like the owners and staff have given up. I recommend that you give up too… on this place.

First of all let me start by saying that I have always heard great things about this place so when I finally went I was VERY disappointed! Love the atmosphere and bar area and the staff was very attentive but the food was not worth paying for. I ordered the carne guisada lunch plate and it was horrible. The meat was in big chunks as were the potatoes and the meat was so tough that could not cut it with a butter knife. I have never had carne guisada so bad in my life! I will never go back!!!

When I am in town, I often eat at Papa Perez. Really good service and always clean. The green sauce has a great kick to it and goes well with enchiladas. The fried avocadoes are great(something you don’t often find in the DFW area?) as is the queso and frijoles rancheros. Haven’t found anything I haven’t liked over the last few years of visiting every few months. Their set-up also makes it easier for larger parties to be seated quickly.

Okay so here we are three years later and finally decided to eat here. We were actually going to Proudest Monkey and –should have-. And this is very difficult to decide on 2 or 3 stars. Apparently I ate their chips and salsa at an event on campus and loved them. I guess I must have been hungry and it was some of the best food there at the time. So, the chips here are excellent. Really super good and obviously home made. But the salsa now tastes like it from a can. I ordered the crawfish enchiladas and the american cheese(this is not Mexican it’s Tex-Mex) made for a filling fare which the after church fats should flock to, but I only found like 3 crawfish in them. Beer selection is terrible. No locals. Meh. I’ve experienced better. I’ve changed the category to Tex-Mex so let’s see how long it takes Unilocal to correct it.

Good food, but they hate single people. Made me wait forever for my food. Had quick service for the groups that came in after me. The manager was hateful when I questioned why I was treated like that. He said single people are incomplete parties, and they didn’t like to seat incomplete parties. Happened a while back. Have never been back.

The food is your generic TexMex fare(better than it’s competitor Casa Rodriguez in my opinion), but I really like this restaurant for it’s ambience. I love the exposed brick of the historic building. They have a room in the back that is good for larger groups. I went here for a friend’s birthday and we ordered the chocolate fountain(chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and a sparkler), which was really fun. They also have good drinks!

I’ve only been here a couple of times, but the fried avocado is to die for. I order it no matter what; both the vegetarian style and the regular style are delicious and I recommend them highly! A really excellent option when you’re in Downtown Bryan.

They have great lunch specials. As far as the food goes, it’s solid, good quality Mexican food. Nothing spectacular or amazing, but good. Service has always been good. I go every couple of weeks or so and always leave full and happy. The fried avocado is amazing. Bottom line, I wouldn’t go in expecting to be floored by the food but it’s definitely good enough.

Of the two most popular Tex-Mex restaurants in downtown Bryan(Papa Perez and Casa Rodrigues), Papa Perez is my favorite. I’ve been coming here since they were in their original location across the street. The food here is delicious and they offer great family style options as well. So here’s a story for you: Their Fiesta plates feed up to 4 people with several pounds of food. My roommate Junior year bet me and a friend that he could eat an entire fiesta family meal by himself. If he finished it all we would cover the $ 40 tab but if not, he would cover it. When they brought out the food, the other employees cheered and a crowd actually formed around the table. Needless to say he did not finish even half of it and he had abdominal«issues» several days after. Definitely one of the highlights of my Papa Perez experience. When you visit, try the Fried Stuffed Avocado with chicken and cheese, or the fajitas. Both are amazing! Plus, they have Big Red on tap! Always a good sign for a mexican restaurant in Texas! If you’re a dessert person, try the Volcano. It resembles a 3rd grade science project and when they bring it out all the employees cheer. It’s a mountain of brownies with ice cream in the center and a large sparkler firework on top.

The service at Papa Perez is five star quality alone. Friendly faces greeted us as my parents and I rolled in here in a post-wedding grog looking for hearty Tex-Mex to provide some much needed food fuel for the ride home. After hearing some town chatter about how delectable the fried, stuffed avocado we had to try this cherished town favorite. The space was surprisingly busy for such a sleepy small town, but as patrons and servers alike whizzed by, the hostesses weren’t phased. We were seated immediately and served chips and their fiery, smoky delicious hot sauce soon after. After a quick discussion with our super sweet waitress and her genuine recommendations — it was settled: we ordered the fried avocado stuffed with chicken. What a treat! But almost just as wonderfully tasty was the tortilla soup and guacamole. Indeed, everything was fresh, hearty, and definitely hit the hangover spot. There was a separate area that served as the bar that actually seemed like fun area that could foster a festive time with beer, multiple large screen tv’s, and sassy margaritas!
