Yes, I am willing to drive almost 30 miles for a good haircut. Thanks to a friend, I found Melissa at Hair Gallery out in Bryans Road, Maryland. I don’t mind a nice drive down an old country road and the next time I go, I will like try a burger shack that I passed along the way today just to add some excitement to the trip and because who wouldn’t want to try a burger from a roadside dive? Anyway, I digress… Melissa is AMAZING. I love that I found someone who listens to what I want in a cut, constantly checks in with me about the length and the texture as she’s cutting it and also happens to be a nice and friendly person. Melissa understands that I want my(very short) hair to be simple, easy to style and easy to maintain. She also understands that while I like her, I don’t want to come in for an appointment every three weeks so she cuts my hair so that when it grows in, it’s not quite so obvious. She just gets it. I’ve been to her twice and scheduled my third appointment when I left there today. I can’t say anything about the other stylists because I’ve only been to Melissa and I will likely only go to her during the time I live in DC. Let me also say that $ 24 for a great haircut is the best deal you will find outside of Great Clips or The Hair Cuttery, where I always feel like it’s hit or miss with who I get. It really makes the places that charge $ 50 or $ 60 in the city seem super overpriced. The reason I’m not giving this 5 stars is because the location is pretty shabby. The shopping center seems very run down and when you walk up to the shop, there is black paper on the windows(keeps out the sun, I think). The shop itself is clean, big and well lit, but when you first pull up, you question if you really should go in there. Don’t be afraid, just be prepared.
