If you like more than just the sickly sweet wine you can get at most wineries in the area, this is the place for you. Check out the zero oak chardonnay and cab franc. A tasting is $ 7 for six pours, which is a little steep, but they waive the fee if you buy two bottles. Linsay is the best bartender – she will hook you up and make you laugh. Be sure to say hi to Pongo the corgi.

Far and away the best wine tasting experience! I coordinated a group of 11 girls to the wineries in Southwest MI and this one tops the list. The tasting room for larger groups was beautifully decorated and a great way to mix and mingle with friends while being guided through a tasting. Linsay lead our group and her personality and knowledge was outstanding. We will absolutely be back!

Cute farmhouse. Wines were okay but not the best you can find in Michigan. Most bottles of wine were $ 20+, but tastings were $ 7 for 6 little pours. Servers were not that friendly. Not a stop to make if you’re trying to see Michigan’s best.

Excellent old world style wines. The 2008 cab franc tastes straight out of Loire Valley. The 2012 Syrah is lush yet austere.

Disclosure: I love wine and I love wineries. That said, Hickory Creek definitely had the best wines out of the wineries that we visited in this area. We stopped in early in the afternoon and did the tasting. I believe the fee was $ 5 and you got to sample 6 of the wines. The reds were very rich and the whites that we tried were very crisp and not too sweet. Don’t worry, if you are a sweet wine afficianado there are options here for you too. This location is very famlike and is set out on an open field full of grapes. There are tractors on the front of the property and picnic tables set out amongst flowers for guests to enjoy the beauty of this area of the country. The wines were moderately priced and the service was friendly. I would definitely visit this location again!

Nice place, but the marketing is more slick and sophisticated than the wines are noteworthy. This is one of those places that suggests you pair one of their offerings«with a buffet of Gravlox, Serrano Ham, grilled figs and prosciutto, gorgonzola, and spinach with warm pancetta vinaigrette» or another with«a bacon BLT with spicy aioli and caraway roasted potatoes.» Gee, right, I’ll just whip all that right up… Will it throw off the laser-calibrated match between the food and wine if they’re rosemary potatoes instead? Staff are very friendly(offered to give me more than the six samples included in the tasting price) and the patio with rustic farm vistas is pleasant on a sunny day.(This place is a considerable distance off the beaten path.) But despite the evocative write-ups, the wines just didn’t do much for me – especially at their prices. This seems to be one of the few Michigan wineries trying to be serious about dry whites, but the ones I tasted seemed rough and nondescript, lacking complexity or elegance. Flowery marketing copy can’t make up for that. I suspect that the Michigan climate just isn’t right for really excellent dry wines. The sweeter, simpler offerings are almost always the way to go. The reds were typical of other Michigan wineries — light bodied, orangy-tinged in color, burnt woodsy/brambly tasting but lacking in fruit. I appreciate local and appreciate the artisanal effort they’re making and all, but why on earth would anyone who knows good wine pay upwards of 30 bucks for something like this when you can get way better simple California wines for 10? The one thing I found I liked was the semi-dry red«Rouge Doux.» The slight sweetness gave it a fruitiness, complexity, richness and mouthfeel that justified $ 16/bottle.

What a great time! Lindsey was awesome! Great wine! Great conversation! She made the experience incredible! It’s always nice to have a wine tasting with someone that loves her job, the wines, and people. Great small winery! Definitely a place to hit on the Michigan wine trail.

Smaller tasting room, wouldn’t be enjoyable if they had a huge crowd. Nice scenery outside, friendly staff. Majority of selection is dry wines. Crackers provided. Nice experience, will definitely be back for tasting again this summer.

What more can I say but we got the VIP treatment today by the owner during our visit. The tasting room was full and we were brought to the back room by the owner and given our very own wine tasting event. All wines were very good for the experienced wine drinker. Highly recommend a visit when u r in the area.

One of the few brave wineries pushing the boundaries of the AVA. It’s still Michigan and the weather is a bit crap and the soil is a bit crap. However, It’s absolutely brilliant to see a winery planting the proper varietals for the area and properly producing the wines. It will be nice to see how Hickory Creek settles in, in the next five years or so. Expect good things. Most of all, the wines seemed to stand on their own. Much less tourist pandering than almost every other Michigan winery.

This place was awesome! The servings were tiny, but you get 5 for 5 bucks. Small and cozy and the staff were personal and knowledgeable. We also got mustard and spices to mull our wine. Definitely worth the stop.

Great ambiance. Very helpful staff and wonderful choice of wines. 2008 Mélange was terrific. Make sure you tell them they need to get printed glasses!(Inside joke)

Fantastic Chardonnays. I would put their zero oak Chardonnay against most of what I have had in Napa, Sonoma, and Russian River.

Staff was not very friendly. Well overpriced. Teeny-tiny tasting room… I waited for my friends outside. You would fare better to skip this stop on your wine tour.

Who doesn’t love hanging in a renovated farmhouse, while engaging in a wine tasting??? I know do! The employees there were friendly and informative. I had all my wine questions answered and did not feel like we were being rushed. Were the wines on the sweeter side? Yes, but I am sure there is always a place and time for sweet wines! I may not be a fan of sweet wine, but can appreciate a well crafted vino.

I received a Xmas gift membership and delivery of my first 2 bottles, a 2008 Chardonnay and a 2009 zero, oak Chardonnay. The 2008 was light and soft, very relaxing, almost like a Sauvignon Blanc. The 2009 was aromatic and full bodied, with a lasting Carmel-like taste. Both were a pleasure. Can’t wait to try more of their whites. BTW there was some difficulty with timing of my order and the proprietor actually delivered personally to my home in the Chicago area! What great service.

If you happen to come when they have a group there and you are only a ‘couple’, forget about getting any service. My wife and I who do the wine trail every year, decided to add Hickory Creek to our list this year. We went there on Friday afternoon and had a horrible experience. We got there and there was a group of six at the counter, they were chatting it up with the employee and after 5 minutes she brought us the wine list. We then had to wait 10 minutes before she came back over to ask us what we wanted to try first. She then went back to the first group and another few minutes passed until we got out second taste. Then she went back to the first group and rang up their purchases and as she finished ringing them up a group of eight came in and she started talking to them for over another five minutes before we gave up and walked out. I think we got about 5 sentences out of her the entire time we were there. Oh well, it was their loss — we bought plenty of wine at all the other wineries in the area(almost 12 cases worth).
