In Buda looking at homes and getting hungry. We wanted to have the local feel will try this place. Some locals we’re regulars and seem to have good experiences. We ordered and got our food. The chicken was dry in the enchiladas but overall the beans had to be the best. Made with bacon that you can taste was the highlight of the meal. Servers looked a tad mad not to many smiles. l No Fresh Tortilla or in-house made chips. Those kind of things make a difference when it comes to authentic Mexican food. Worth a shot we’re going to try Garcia’s next.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner? When is it not a good time to eat at Chavelo’s. The authenticity of the mexican food in Buda is second to none. Needing a fresh, full flavored migas plate to start your day, awesome nachos and cold margarita for happy hour or a great plate of greasy enchiladas to end it. You will find it here. Consistently over the 10 years we have visited Chavelos we have been served the best food just like we are Chavelos own family. We love the hometown local vibe and appreciate we are supporting an actual family from Buda.

I have been in Buda for 3 yrs now and I am looking for a good Mexican restaurant. We like Garcias but the serving sizes are too small for th price. So we decided to try this place. I think the fajitas are awesome you can tell thy marinate them well. The Enchiladas are pretty good also. The deal breaker for us though is the tortillas, you cant have food that good and not have home made tortillas.

Great little gem in Buda! Been trying to find a no frills genuine authentic Mexican joint in south Austin and we found it! Came on a Friday evening and they were busy but got seated fairly quickly! Parking wasn’t the greatest but we found some in the historic street one block over and walked over. They have a patio outside. Great Margs! and this is by far the best fajita meat we’ve had in Austin! Flavorful and not bland like most other spots and the meat has some fat to it which retains a lot of flavor and juiciness! Great prices for the portions you get and the people who run it are kind. We’ve found our go to spot for those cravings of Mexican food!

What tex mex is all about. Good food, fair prices, friendly service. Their refried beans have a nice smokey flavor, try them!

Love, love, love this place! Food is on point. Everything on the menu is great. The staff is friendly, and even Chavelo him self will come sit and talk to you. Talk about customer service. They also have great margaritas. They not only have great Mexican food, try their burgers as well, you won’t be disappointed here.

I have been to Chavelos a few times now and haven’t been disappointed. I have had their green chicken enchiladas which were delicious! I’ve also had their breakfast tacos, there tacos are filled to the max! We will continue to eat at Chavelos !

I’ve eaten lunch at Chavelo’s twice. Both times I was more than happy with my meal and had leftovers for a later snack. I don’t remember for sure, but I think I was on a Carne Guisada kick the first time I visited. Whatever I had I do remember that it was good. This time I had a Chili Relleno dinner… ala picadillo. It came with an outstanding guacamole salad, rice and beans. Chips were light and crisp. I asked for salsa verde, expecting a jalapeño salsa, and instead they brought out an habanero concoction that was amazing. I highly recommend it. Yes, as other reviewers have commented, the parking leaves a bit to be desired. Yes, the indoor seating area is kind of small. As far as I’m concerned though the great food makes it more than worth any irritation those minor details might cause you. My experience with the wait staff was excellent. My appreciation for the food; price, quantity served, freshness and flavor-wise puts it way up on my list of favorite eateries. I recommend it without reservation. BTW, I don’t ever give 5 stars… but if I could I’d give Chavelo’s a 4+. They’re definitely better than just good.

Great«hole in the wall». Wonderful people and great inexpensive food. Best chips with spicy salsa. We always get the queso. It’s too good to pass up. The beer-a-rita is also great.

Beans and potatoes were just right on the machacada plate and the dish was delicious. Too much for me to eat! Service was friendly and prompt. Coffee wasn’t the best but still good enough! Any other time of day I would be trying the margaritas anyway! Parking lot was full when we arrived at 9:30 on Sunday morning but we still found a spot. Nice outdoor patio. Will have to come back at night sometime.

This place is probably the most authentic Mexican food in buda. But it’s small. And parking here is ridiculous. In a bad way. It took me 5 tries before I finally got a parking spot less than 3 blocks away and decided to eat here. I was beyond impressed with the food. The waitstaff is moderately unprofessional. We were greeted by someone sitting down at a staff group table eating chips and salsa. Immediately after sitting us, she went back to sitting beside us at the employee table.(This was 1215pm on a Sunday) Our waitress soon joined their table and hey, no big deal if your tables are satisfied. But my coffee was empty for 10 minutes longer than it needed to be. The carne guisada plate was great. Migas tambien. And huevos rancheros is spot on. I think the wait staff needs a little training on etiquette. We salute the kitchen staff for their authentic appeal, and we thank ownership for the price fairness. You will get what you pay for in terms of proportion.

Food was very good; waitress was not. Asked for a Shiner Bock waitress asked, «You mean a beer»? Asked for additional flour tortillas and she brought a plate with one tortilla. I was hoping to get service with my dinner, not attitude. Probably won’t go back.

I found the local flavor and appeal to be quite good. Not the best I’ve ever had but worth the trip. The Farah guacamole was a highlight. I had a Chicken enchiladas and beef Buritos which were really soft beef tacos without lettuce and tomatoes. They were tasty. The enchilada was good. The sauce is great and chips are good. Nice big drink glasses. Device was helpful and friendly.

I had been told to stay away from this place. So, for a very long time, I did. How stupid of me not to trust my own judgement. SOHAPPY I gave in. Chips, salsa, nachos, EVERYTHING we have tried… A PLUS! Prices are so low, you will think you are eating at your Momma’s. Try it, you’ll like it!

Nice outdoor patio, chips and salsa okay. Service okay. Group of 18, everyone said their food and margaritas were OK except for the two who ordered the fajita breakfast tacos. Neither one ate their food. The fajitas were not trimmed properly and had the gristly membrane still attached. When this was mentioned to the waitress she did not offer a new plate, and suggested maybe next time ordering the chicken fajitas instead.

Definitely one of, if not my favorite Mexican restaraunt. It is so good, reasonably priced everything. Things I judge Mexican restaraunt a on: chips, salsa, queso, rice and beans. And let me tell you, they all get 5 stars from me. I have not ordered one bad or not good things off the menu. It’s small, not overwhelming but it sure is not small on flavor. Not one bit. Seriously my mouth is watering right now… My favorite dish is the shrimp an tilapia salad, the flauntas,(spell check), and the fajita dinner. YUM! And the drinks are all good. $ 5 imports and real tequila in their margaritas rather than that puss watered down shit half of Mexican restaraunt a serve. BOOM!

Staying in the Comfort Suites, not much by way of dinner round these parts of a Monday evening so off the husband and BIL went. Chicken fajitas, beef fajitas, beef tacos and a burrito between 4 of us. With more chips and queso than you can shake a stick at, the queso was thick, congealed and meh. The fajitas were the same, only 2 tortillas with the meals, meat was poor quality and the«add ins» were all shoved in one messy tub. The beef tacos however were excellent, the taco meat was full of flavour. $ 30 a couple, and it was just ok.

Now that I’m pregnant and going through the horrible morning sickness waves, bean and cheese nachos at Chavelos are the only thing that this baby seems to like and let’s me keep down! It’s become a regular Sunday lunch spot for the hubby and I. The parking still stinks, but I’m giving five stars because those dang nachos are amazing!
