Best place for breakfast in the valley. The food and atmosphere are fantastic and the service is out of this world.

Wonderful food but the place looks like a dump. We have been coming to Ellens for 15 years and just had another delicious breakfast there but we were sure the place had changed owners because it is filthy. My husband even asked the hostess about it and told her the owners need to put some money and time into cleaning it up. Sorry can’t recommend any more.

Breakfast is awesome. Love the blueberry french toast. But have you eaten lunch or dinner here? Best fried chicken and potato salad ever!!! Always great service as well. Eating at Ellens is like eating at grandma’s house. Always home made always good.

Howdy folks. How’s everyone reading this doing? Well, I recently decided to check out this place that I kept hearing about while listening to the Andy Caldwell show on AM1440. So me and my friend decided to drive down to Buellton and check it out one Saturday morning. I really liked the atmosphere right away. It was a cozy little place that maid you feel you were in a hometown spot you’d been coming to all your life. It had that kind of a vibe. But then again small towns like Buellton are like that. The food was delicious and plentiful. I ordered the American style pancakes with fried eggs and sausage. I am not really much of a breakfast guy I must admit. But when I do have breakfast, this is the way I like it. Classic American breakfast. Now lets get to the service. This is the only reason I am not giving this restaurant five stars. First off I ordered coffee. The coffee came and then I notice there is cream but no sugar packets on the table. Ok no big deal. I’ll just ask our waitress for some. Here begins the problem with the service. I didn’t see the waitress until she brought us our food. So I ask her for some sugar and she responds that she’ll bring me some. Now I don’t know if she had to stop and get her nails done on the way, but it sure did take awhile for her to bring some sugar to our table. In the meantime my coffee is getting cold. So we finish our meal and it’s like, ok time to get the check. Easier said than done. That is because the waitress is nowhere to be found. Maybe she is now having her hair done. Then I see her and finally I am able to get her attention so I can ask for the check. After a long wait she brings the check and then takes off. After a while she returns and takes the money. But I am expecting she is going to return. Don’t get me wrong. Even though she provided bad service I am still going to tip her. By this point me and my friend are totally ready to go. But this waitress, if you even want to call her that, is nowhere to be found. Finally I had to ask for change back on our bill. I shouldn’t have to do that. Totally unacceptable of this waitress. Now here’s the thing. Some of you reading this may be thinking something like, «oh she must have been extremely busy». Well, that wasn’t the case this morning. It was steady. But not overly busy. There were still plenty of tables available. Even if it had been really busy it is still no excuse to neglect your customers like this. If this waitress was too overwhelmed then she should have asked for help. My suggestion to Ellen’s Danish Pancake house is don’t run a good restaurant with horrible service, Word gets around quickly. Especially in an area like this. Nasty Nathanial

It’s was outstanding food. Waitress was so nice and knowledgeable with the menu that she made me like home. If your on the 101 stop for breakfast and try the beacon and ham plates.

Such a great breakfast. As someone traveling who wanted to avoid any chain restaurant, Ellen’s was perfect. The Danish pancakes were awesome, the bacon was crispy, my coffee cup was always full, and I felt welcomed and appreciated. If I lived here, I would be a regular.

Omg… the Dutch pancakes… and that blackberry sauce(which I bought)…facial worthy. I was so excited I forgot to take a pic of my food before I dove into it. so my pic is not appealing but oh good lord that pancake! I only wish they would serve corn beef hash every single damn day! It’s only one day a week… no Bueno!!! Eggs were very tasty… scrambled and over medium… yum either way. And service… service was exceptional!

Hands down the best breakfast I’ve ever had! Every bite into the fluffy yet crisp cakes was followed by yummy noises. I got the two sausage pancakes and a coffee to go for $ 8.00; a good price for the quality. The sausage was wonderful(cut into bite-size pieces), and mixed with the honey butter it was pure heaven! They were fast too. I walked over there while my bus was taking a rest stop on the other side of the highway and they had my order ready in 7 minutes.

Food– 3 stars Service– 5 stars Great portions, food is okay. Hash browns and biscuits are really good. Service is amazing. The hostess is on the ball and keeps everyone waiting informed. Our server was great. She really has it down, asked all the right questons, and had an awesome attitude. Fast service

Came for breakfast on Saturday morning at 7, place was near empty, was seated right away. I could see from the way they kept the place clean the food would be ok. As it turned out it was ok. Not great, but ok. Service was good, waitress asked for drinks right away. Then on her return, the food order. It arrived fairly fast, and she refilled coffee and tended to our needs often. Looking at menu I was surprised to see their eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast was so expensive, $ 10.50 is a little steep for the cheapest meal of the day. Food cost on this warranted maybe $ 7.50, not $ 10.50. They also ran a special chili verde omelet at the same price, but the omelet had no avocado, it was extra. We ordered 2 Chili verde omelettes, and 1 eggs/bacon breakfast. The omelet had a slimy sauce that tasted odd, but the pork and eggs in it tasted good, so I separated the sauce as best I could and ate everything else. Other than that everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. I can’t highly recommend, but I think I will return someday.

We spent the night across the street and were actually going to go to a different pancake place over in Solvang. I got a recommendation from a friend to come here instead. I am glad we did! We arrived right around 9:45am and were seated at a corner table immediately. We had our coffees filled right away and had a few minutes to look over the menu. We were at «Ellen’s Danish Pancake House»…was there any other option for breakfast, other than to order Danish Pancakes? I think not! I placed my order for«Ellen’s Special» which is 2 Danish pancakes with your choice of fruit topping(I went with blueberries), butter and whipped cream. My wife ordered some plain Danish pancakes, a side order of bacon and a side of hash browns. About 5 minutes after we ordered, our food was delivered to our table. Here is how it was… Ellen’s Special Blueberry Danish Pancakes– These were presented nicely! They had tons of blueberries and a good amount of whipped cream on them. I bit in and they were delicious! They were super thin and a tad crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. I devoured them in no time! The only bummer was that they were so thin, they really didn’t fill me up. For the price, I wish the order had an additional pancake included. Taste was excellent but value was average/poor. Hash Browns– They serve you a huge square slice of hash browns. It was kind of like a hash brown casserole. They were very good. Bacon– An order came with 5 or 6 nice sized slices. It was delicious! Overall, I was glad we came by. The food was excellent! The price was just a little steep though for the amount of food you get. After tax and tip, our meal was in the mid $ 30s. I still had plenty of room for Danishes over in Solvang. Would I come back? Yes… yes indeed. Service was great and the food was delicious!

The Danish pancakes and eggs were pretty good. I didn’t think they were spectacular but I would eat there again. The dining area was very noisy and could use a facelift. Bathrooms were not the cleanest.

A great old fashioned diner in a small town! Good food with generous portions and friendly service. You can tell it’s a local favorite, with a full house and a decent wait! I think we waited about 20 minutes on a Saturday morning, and it was pretty early too. I got their danish pancakes with blueberries and a side of bacon and hot chocolate, and it was super yummy! The mountain of whipped cream on my hot chocolate was as large as my cup was tall! It was glorious. The pancake was like a crêpe and the blueberries were so fresh. The ‘side’ of bacon was extremely generous too! It had such a lovely neighborly vibe, everyone was so friendly. I will definitely make this a must stop every time we go up to Solvang!

Pros: i was Impreased with their seasonal fruit selection and the soft sourdough toast was great. They don’t have a lot of things in stock on their menu it seems. Cons: Their menu board had a special of tritip sand which which I didn’t want anyways but the waitress said they only got seny enough meat for 3 sandwhichs that day and were out. Seems weird they would t just erase their specials board then. Also no ham hocks available now. The bacon seemed very salty and if I go back I won’t order the omlet with it because it was just too stuffed and salty. I usually love bacon and can’t imagine myself ever saying something had too much bacon but that place needs to change brands or something. Last thing their menu states fresh juice and when asked if their juice was fresh or bottle concentrate the waitress said bottled. Kinda miss leading so I ordered water.

Stopped here during a road trip in August, glad I did. Basically, the Danish pancakes are like massive crepes. They were good and filling. We ordered ours with sides of eggs(scrambled for me, over medium for him) so we could get some protein. No problems with any of the food and the eggs were each cooked beautifully. Also, the coffee was good. I had mine black and I didn’t notice any burnt flavor or odd aftertaste. Just good olé coffee :) If we’re in the area again(which is very likely), we’ll be sure to stop in.

I’m very picky about my coffee— I carry «via«packs with me. The Man drinks anything. This coffee was good no char tastes no bitterness. It’s mild. UnilocalERS did not let us down on this little gem. The service was efficient & Friendly. The food arrived quickly and prepared well nothing burnt or undercooked. The Danish pancakes and Danish sausage are yummy like others have. The Man had a special chorizo scramble and I have to say it was good!

Ellen’s was a quick walk from the Pea Soup Anderson Inn and a great place to grab breakfast(we had slept right through the complimentary continental breakfast offered by the hotel but I preferred this anyways!). Although it was a busy Sunday morning, we only had to wait about 10 minutes. I’d guess that the wait is never too long since the food comes out REALLY quick. Like, seriously fast. I ordered the pancake sandwich which is 2 pancakes with eggs and your choice of meat(I picked bacon). It comes out in separate pieces and you have to assemble it yourself if you want to eat it like a sandwich(which is exactly what I did, who cares if people thought I was eating my pancakes with my hands!). I opted for American style pancakes since I wasn’t sure how the thin Danish pancakes were going to work for a sandwich, and also because I was starving and wanted the extra sustenance. Everything was good, and good assembled as well, particularly the bacon which was cooked just like I like it. crispy all the way through and not greasy. My bf had the strawberry danish pancakes which looked amazing… not only were they covered in strawberries, but stuffed with them also. Definitely a good choice if you want a sweeter breakfast. Service was great! These people have their hospitality and manners down to a tee!
