The dance program is great because they have an amazing directed but the park district is VERY unorganized! Always have problems with payments in person and online. The classes are really expensive compared to other districts. The people are also very rude and hard to work with!

This review is strictly tailored for the dance program through the Park District. I’m 36. I still like to dance and I find it’s the only thing that’ll work toward motivating me to ‘work out’. However, as a 36 year old, it is DIFFICULT to find dance classes that are local(not in the city), that are tailored for amateurs(no, I’m not wearing a leotard) and that are not offered exclusively during the day(no, i don’t have a rich husband and a nanny… sadly). BGPD offers three adult dance classes: ballet, tap & hip/hop jazz. Each of these classes is taught by a different instructor. tap is amazing. aly is fun and she incorporates current music(adele, gaga) into tap routines that are sure to break a sweat and break the ice with fellow classmates for a fun atmosphere. karen’s hip/hop class infuses all different types of influences(michael jackson being my favorite) into a wonderful class that features not only floor and routine work, but also body sculpting floor work. i hate this part, but it’s good for you, right? :) This PD also has a competitive dance team called Hot Shots that I’ve had the pleasure of watching — they’re out of this world. If you like to dance, or if you want to learn to dance or if you have any kids you’re interested in placing in dance, this would be a great place to do it. Love to Aly, Karen & all my classmates. Can’t wait to dance with you again soon.

The programs are expensive compared to other area park districts and in a lot of cases MORE expensive then the out of district rates for other local park districts. Many of their programs are done«lottery» style(where they draw names to decide who gets in to what while you hold your breath), and you don’t find out if your kid got in the program in most cases for a few months. You have to register for these programs MONTHS in advance(for instance, we registered for camp that starts the third week in June the first week of November). As for as the quality of the programs… I’m happy. My daughter is having a great time at camp and making lots of new friends. She loves her counselors, too. Overall, decent. I think that BG could stand to expand their park district to meet the demand of the community to avoid the needless hassles of the registration process.

No complaints, my daughter loved the sports camp, lots of field trips, but… are we so neurotic about pedophiles that we will not allow female teen counselors to put sunscreen on a child’s back so they don’t get fried? What is so terrible about smearing sunscreen on the back of a kid’s neck and shoulders? Not like she can reach it herself!
