4*s, considering that I was lucky enough to catch their First Fridays… which means f-r-e-e, FREE admission! Considering the free admission, my friend was motivated enough to pay for the Monet exhibit($ 15) which apparently was quite small, about a dozen paintings. Sorta difficult to review an art gallery. It would seem almost sacrilegious to give an institution like this a negative review. What I will say is though that the property is very grand from the exterior, lovely interior, but much, much smaller than it actually is from the outside. Coming from a city that doesn’t have many buildings like this, I can appreciate the architecture. Your review will depend on your particular artistic interests. First floor was paintings by Chagall, Kahlo, Miro, etc. but I couldn’t figure out if they were in a particular order. There didn’t seem to be more than just 1 – 2 paintings from the same artist. Interspersed were video/light installations. On the 2nd floor was an exhibit on modern sculpture which didn’t appeal to me… at all. Again, just my personal opinion. If you’re able to check out the gallery on the first Friday of the month, definitely take advantage of this lovely benefit! Wish we had something like that in Toronto. :)

I must say, for the price I was expecting a lot more out of the gallery. Nevertheless, they had an incredible spread and variety throughout the building that’s beauty almost exceeds the art itself. I went during the Monet expo and was greeted with a friendly smile. The woman who sold us our tickets was very knowledgeable in regards to both the art and the building. Since it was our first time here, she told us many interesting facts about the place which greatly contributed to our experience. I would love to return in the future, I just wish it was a bit cheaper.

Typically I am a big fan of anything painting-related, my favorites being Van Gogh and Frida Kahlo, and I was very glad to hear that the Albright-Knox has some of their pieces as a part of their permanent collection. I visited the Albright-Knox when the Monet exhibit was on display, opting to pay the extra fee to explore that part of the exhibit. I did find it a little odd that they had the Monet exhibit sort of mingled with their permanent collection, with other pieces being on the opposite side of one wall(making it kind of easy for anyone to just wander to the exhibit without paying the extra fee), but it wasn’t that big of an issue for me. I really enjoy being able to admire the permanent pieces they have on display, and the modern art exhibits that were on the top floor were pretty interesting as well. The only real issue we came across was when one of the security guys persistently followed us when we were exploring some of the modern exhibits on the top floor. He watched us when we ducked between a couple of the rooms, and it honestly felt extremely unnecessary. My friend and I hardly look like the type of people who would try to do anything to an exhibit, and who would honestly attempt something with other people in the area anyway, when there’s nowhere else for us to go? It made me feel really put off and kind of prevented me from exploring the exhibits one more time before leaving. It just made me feel like we weren’t really welcome when we paid to get in, just like everyone else. I still enjoy the Albright-Knox, from the inside out. The architecture always draws me in, and this isn’t going to be my last visit to the gallery, but I don’t know if I’m going to go back unless there’s something really worth checking out.

A gem in Buffalo! Very few smaller cities are lucky enough to have an art gallery such as the AK. What a wonderful collection to enjoy! Additionally, there are special exhibits and events all year. Currently there is an impressionist exhibit with paintings from Monet, Seurat, Picasso, and the like. It’s breathtaking! The first Friday of each month allows free parking and extended hours. Entry fees are very reasonable. Consider a membership which allows you free admission to most events at a minimal cost.

The Albright-Knox is a beautiful building inside and out. I have visited the Knox several times and each visit has been free!(M&T First Friday’s — free admission the first friday of every month). Each visit I see and learn something new. The Albright-Knox has given me the opprotunity to appreciate beautiful contemporary and historic artwork. Whether you’re visitng the beautiful city of good neighbors or a proud resident, the Albright-Knox is a perfect go to rainy day, cold day, any kind of day visit to expand your knowledge and perspective on the arts. My favorite time to visit is in the summer — music and drinks on the portico! Also the stairs facing Hoyt Lake make for a great workout!

The Albright-Knox is an important local cultural institution whose holdings include many major 19th and 20th century European and American artists. The collection used to include several important and much loved pieces of classical art from both the Eastern and Western traditions as well, but those were sold off in 2007 to raise funds for acquisitions of more contemporary materials after unsuccessful efforts to block the sale. Special exhibitions mean that inevitably not all areas of the present permanent collection are represented on display at any given time. Navigating the original classical building and more recent additions can take some doing; there is a gift shop and café. They have a parking lot and are directly across from SUNY Buffalo State College which houses the Burchfield Penny Art Center.

Fantastic art space. I’m a fan of contemporary art and so this was a gem to find when I moved to Buffalo. They often have a good selection of works displayed and at least one thing will catch my mind or eye. The graphic pencil art in the stairwell is fantastic — I wish I could have made it when they were ‘installing it.’ There’s not much more to say about the art without making this an art criticism essay. Instead, just go — and one a rainy day, it’s perfect to spend a few hours! Parking is out frond though I’m sure you could find alternate parking on Delaware or near the park so you wouldn’t have to pay. Entrance fee is totally worth it and not too expensive(there are student and other discounts too). I’ve never tried the café there, but museum cafes freak me out. I’m there for art, not coffee. Check it out on a free day and then keep going back. It’s one of the things in Buffalo I really enjoy.

The museum is huge! I was a little skeptical as I do not like art galleries that much, but after some talking to the front desk clerk I was ready to do this. I loved the amount of room they give to high school students to hold their own gallery! I wished my school did something that cool. I recommend this as a date, a family outings, or a fun thing to do on a weekday.

I’m endlessly impressed with the collection we have right in our own backyard. I love the interactive mirror room and the accessibility of everything. A lovely gift shop and café. First Fridays is a wonderful event each month for families. I feel like the gallery has grown so much better at involving the community as a whole.

I came here for the first time last Sunday. It was free admission for Erie County residents, but surprisingly, not packed. My favorites: The mirror room — Very awesome and different! Although, not flattering seeing me at every angle. The scribbles — you know, the stairs area. Not sure the professional name… Very cool and interesting! The special exhibit — Feeley was my absolute favorite! So bright and abstract! I will definitely be back, but not until it’s free again. I feel like $ 12 per person is a little expensive.

The Albright Knox is an absolute gem. The building itself is beautiful and well maintained. They are located right by Delaware Park and the grounds of the gallery are well maintained. The outdoor portion of Albright Knox features many great installations that are worth taking a trip out to see. My personal favorite is the giant bust on the left side of the building. The interior is no slouch either. Featuring paintings from Picasso, Mondrian, Matisse, and O’Keefe. In addition, there are other hidden gems from less famous artists, as well as installations from contemporary artists. One of the biggest attractions is the mirror room. The room is a small cube that consists of a table and chair. The walls, floor, ceiling, and furniture are completely made of mirrors. Upon entering this room, it feels like you are entering a different universe. Everything stretches on around you, infinitely repeating until it fades into darkness. You’re allowed to take pictures in there and it leads to some pretty cool effects. There are better things at the gallery, but for those who aren’t the biggest fan of art, this is the main attraction and should at least be experienced once. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at the Albright Knox. If you are patient, you can get in to the first floor featuring everything I mentioned for free on the first Friday of every month. This includes extended hours until 10pm. It’s worth a trip!

The Albright Knox is a top notch art museum that Buffalo is lucky to have. Be sure to check it out sometime especially for the free fridays each month and the art events such as Art Alive! Besides the art gallery itself, the location is beautiful and a very popular spot for wedding photography. Particularly the side of the building that faces Delaware park. In the summer, cross the street(to go into the park) and go near the water they have boats you can rent for a romantic date or a nice day outing.

The second floor of the Albright-Knox is rather stark right now. A few monumental Anselm Kiefer paintings — one with a
