My grandfather buys my grandmother a single rose every week. He walks to the Corner Florist on Friday, where for many years they knew him only as Mr. Piper, as he smokes a pipe. He says«buy her one rose and tell her you wanted to show the rose how pretty she is. One rose is special– and a lot cheaper than a dozen!» When I moved to Orlando, I started having anniversary and birthday presents sent from there, and they were always a hit. I wanted to support a local business that my grandpa frequented rather than a national chain, A few years ago, my grandfather fell and was in the hospital, the folks at the Corner Florist actually called me in Orlando to check on him, as he had missed a few weeks. I know the one flower he gets a week has no impact on their bottom line, but they were concerned for him. Two weeks ago my uncle, my grandfather’s youngest son, lost his battle with long cancer. When I called the Corner Florist(at very close to closing) and said where the flowers were going, the lady at the other end of the line started to cry. She said, «Oh my God, his wife died.» I said it was his son. She asked how much I wanted to spend, and when I said $ 50, she actually tried to talk me into spending less, which I did not do. My grandparents said they have never seen a more beautiful flower arrangement, which was delivered that same day, and by the owner I suspect. If you have family in South Buffalo, I hope you use this place. They have been very good to my family, and I trust they will be good to yours.
