My wife and I have been to Hirsch’s many times in the past few years. Usually we would go on a Sunday afternoon and partake of their specials which were always good, reminded me of Granny’s house Sunday afternoon. Upon looking at the reviews for Hirsch’s on Unilocal I found it interesting. The reviews cover the entire Gaunlet from 1 to 5 stars. Experience tells me that when a restaurant has a range like that, usually someone’s got an ax to grind. A restaurant, you’re on the low side you’re on the high side not an entire spectrum like that. It just seems a bit odd. Anyway onto my latest experience at Hirsch’s. I like to use the iPhone translator and I’m going to stop calling this restaurant by name hearses because the iPhone translator heaps putting down the name of that vehicle that we all take our final Ride in. And their food does not warrant that. Before we went this past visit I did a Google to check to be sure that they were open. Google returned an opening time of 3PM which was just about the time we were there. Upon entering we were told that they didn’t open until four. You might keep that in mind to save yourself some inconvenience. They graciously seated us and sent a waitress over to us as soon as she Took her coat off. Dinner this day consisted of a special and a regular entrée. I opted to order off the special menu a half rack of lamb. I am kind of a lamb freak. Actually I enjoy the Australian lamb because it is a heavier flavor. This rack of lamb came with a baked potato salad it was a nice meal very good. A bit heavy on the garlic for my taste but then I am not a garlic fan. The meat was tender, juicy, and well presented, it was a good meal. My wife loves that Buffalo staple roast beef on Kimilwick. She ordered it this night and was pleasantly surprised at the huge sandwich that was presented to her. I wish I had time to get a picture of it but I was consumed by my leg of lamb. My wife’s roast beef came with an equally huge pile of french fries. Needless to say she enjoyed her sandwich found it very juicy and tasty. It was so big that she was unable to finish it and we had a very happy shih tzu when we got home. The staff was very accommodating. With the owner taking care of us when we got there as early as we did. Our waitress was knowledgeable and a pleasure to interact with which made the meal all the more enjoyable. The restaurant has been in the Harris Hill area since I was a kid. It is a family owned business that does reflect its age. In these economic times I am sure that it’s very difficult to spend a lot of money on upgrades and décor. In a restaurant that is not a chain, I look for a clean, comfortable, homey setting, a nice place to have a meal. I go to this restaurant for the food, not the sports memorabilia hanging on the wall. Try it, I think you’ll enjoy yourself.

We’ve been to Hirsch’s several times before and enjoyed the food, but tonight’s experience has me reconsidering whether I’ll ever return. We arrived at 5:20 on a Sunday evening to an empty bar and more than half empty parking lot, yet we waited 15 minutes for a table. The waitress took another 20 minutes to even acknowledge us. The bartender came to our rescue with drinks, but still no word from the waitress. In the end we received adequate food and attention, but no apologies(I went to the manager), nothing off the bill, and an altogether disappointing dining experience.

Service was good and the atmosphere was good. The food was NOT very good. The rolls were so crusty it was hard to cut into them with a steak knife. The prime rib was the WORST I have ever tasted. It was Medium rare but was still tough and not flavorful at all. The oats on the Apple Crisp were mostly just that-oats. They were not cooked into the(lame) apple crisp itself. I have been here in the past many times for what was always the Sunday night $ 10.99 prime rib special. Now that it is gone and the quality fo the food with it, I see no reason to drive out to Clarence for dinner when I can get Prime Rib right around the corner at Texas Roadhouse Grill.

Well… I have not been here in many years. The place has not changed even a little. It was slightly musty inside and the crowd is definitely older — which is fine. On Saturday night at 6:30 it was less than ¼ full. It was kind of funny that even though we made reservations — and did not need them since it was empty — the guy at the stand made an issue of making sure who I was and then crossing out my name on the list(it was the only one on the list). I started out with French onion soup. It was a big failure! Nothing more than a salty tasting bouillon cube with onion and garlic powder — yuck! My wife had the Leak soup and said it was ok. I interpret this as not being memorable and who cares. The Caesar Salad was very crispy and cold and was pretty good. However, it had this lemony zing to it and was saltier than usually for a Cesar. I personally would only give it 3⁄5 stars. We both had chicken Cordon Bleu. It was very overcooked and was very over powered by the ham on the bottom. Guess what? It was very salty too! So if salty food is your thing, this place is a five star restaurant! The service and the water was good … I needed a LOT of water!!! Oh well!

Very nice established eatery. Probably best suited for an older crowd. The server was extremely nice and competent. The prime rib special is the deal of the day and for a very reasonable price you get a full meal and it was delicious. The fireplaces were lit and the place was very comfortable and quiet with sounds of happy eaters. There is a small bar where all the TV noise happens. We all left full and happy which is about all one could expect. Give it a try.
