*********************************** NOTE!!! CASHONLY!!! She knew I was a new customer when I made my appt, but never mentioned this, so be forewarned! We were super lucky we had some cash on us, which we rarely ever have!!! ********************************** So my review: It’s a shame, really. I started out with high hopes, since when you drive up to the place it is gorgeous! It looks like it is a little cottage straight out of a fairy tale! Inside, too, the place is *SO* cute: she has toys and a little play area, special animals they sit on for the haircuts, etc… but that’s where the good ends, unfortunately. The woman who owns the business and does the cuts had ZERO personality and was astoundingly NOT child-friendly at all! Here is my little two year old, coming for her first haircut ever, and something that is supposed to be a momentous occasion in her(and mommy’s) life. But this woman offered *no* smiles, no reassuring statements, she never ONCE even addressed my child or talked to her! She didn’t even introduce herself, let alone explain what was going on and try to make the experience more pleasant for my scared little kid. I was SHOCKED. Even talking to her as an adult was hard, making conversation was like pulling teeth. Who goes into a field like this with no people skills, let alone CHILD-friendly skills? She just clenched her jaw and got to work cutting hair. My daughter freaked out, and the hairdresser didn’t attempt to calm her down, be silly, nothing. Just looked at me like«do something.» Maybe she just knows that she has the market cornered and is raking in the dough with the specialized market, even though it’s not really her forte to work with kids??? My other gripe was that the only thing she was willing to do was cut her hair into a bob. When I suggested alternatives like giving her bangs and trimming some of the scraggy hair, she looked at me like I was crazy and scoffed at my suggestion! I had to basically force her to do what I wanted and say I’d just deal with it if I wasn’t happy. NOTE: I *was* totally happy with the non-bob haircut and have since talked to a lot of hairdressers that say they really only trim bangs and trim ends when kids are that young!!! I know my kid will have no clue when she grows up, but I’m so bummed that this antisocial woman ruined what was supposed to be a fun exciting first trip to the hairdresser.

I was dreading my son’s 1st hair cut. I have heard the legends about kids turning in to the Exorcist when the scissors come out, and I wish I could tell you those legends are false but alas, they are true. From the moment your child spots the shiny glare of a sharp blade coming for their little head they begin to act like they are literally on fire. So, that sucks. But the salon lady(Janet?) and her little shop are AWESOME. She is so sweet and kind and PATIENT. My son was thrashing and screaming and his heads was doing 360’s and there was so much snot pouring out of him from crying but that lady never lost her focus. She is fast and accurate, she got his hair cut in a matter of minutes and it looked so darn cute! He used to have a rockin’ mullet, now he looks like a little dude! Her price for their service is way too low… if I had to deal with kids hair cuts I’d be charging in the hundreds of dollars for the pain of it, but she wasn’t much more than buying a couple of latte’s at Starbucks. I love her little mascot, it’s a cocker spaniel. She has another small dog now but the cocker spaniel logo is based off of an old dog she had, the one who had her heart. I have spaniels myself so I know how they worm their way in, they are like furry people. I have a general rule that if you like spaniels, I like you. we will be back, this place is a gem! Love the«1st hair cut» card with the lock of hair. To answer the question about what she writes when a kid is terrible, the answer is she lies through her teeth and writes they were awesome. It’s a nice touch, I’ll always remember my kid screaming bloody murder but someday he’ll see that card and think he was an angel… until he has a child of his own he takes for their 1st haircut and finds out the cold hard truth and kids hate scissors next to their heads :)

For all the things people don’t tell you about kids before you decide to have them, add this one to the list: they grow hair, and it doesn’t come in looking super cool like James Dean; it’s more like 2010 Justin Beiber(ugh). Before you know it your kid has mutton chops and a mullet. Not a pretty sight. That’s where we were a couple days ago before we decided to get our son Jake’s first haircut. We couldn’t have picked a better place to do it at than at Kiddie Cuts & More. Jake was able to watch Elmo on TV while getting his haircut(he loves Elmo). He also was able to get his haircut while being strapped down on a panda stool(who doesn’t love pandas?) Everything was going swimmingly for a while, but then the fussiness ensued(he hates to be contained for too long). Miss Janet was extremely patient with cutting Jake’s hair during his protest. She did an exceptional job in spite of his restlessness, and our baby went from Shaggy Doo to a miniature Robert Redford in just a matter of moments. She even gave us a nice baby’s first haircut card, which included a lock of his hair and a nice message regarding how he did. She wrote that he did«very well for his first time». I wonder if when a kid is a complete nightmare if she writes«don’t ever come back with your terrible little monster», but I doubt it because she’s too sweet to do something like that. I would, however. Afterward, Jake cooled his jets in the playroom by the toy train station where he made friends without another baby getting his first haircut too. The two of them went grocery shopping for plastic foods, which is apparently a blast for babies. All in all, a great baby’s first haircut experience for all of us. Two tiny thumbs up!
