Every feel you’ve discovered a place near by and question. Why haven’t I been here sooner… That was my feeling when I went to Papa Jake’s… Awesome Wings… BBQ… Fresh cut fries… And football… What can I say… Lol I was in my Element. I would harp on one thing that they do no carry Pepsi or Coke… But have RC Cola… Booooo but with how great the wings were. I will let that slide.

Delicious, rich food in a great environment. Bar wise, it’s also very good, great music that doesn’t make you deaf, and a good drink selection. It’s a bit loud on their patio because it’s on a main road of Buffalo, but at night the patio is quiet.

This is my favorite go to restaurant in buffalo. I have consistently had great food here(roast beef and fries are the best) and the beer selection is always changing. It’s never expensive when you go and you always leave feeling full!

This restaurant place has a few really important things. Beer, food, and big screens for the games. If you want a new modern snazzy upscale spot, go somewhere else. If you want a mom and pop type old school pub and grill for lunch or dinner… perfect. The owner is cool and the staff is chill. The food is great even though it takes a bit to come out of the kitchen.

Papa jakes is wierd. It’s definitely a dive bar, but it has some touches that make it my go-to local bar: The snow crab dinner is totally worth the pittance you’ll pay for it. The service is awesome.. The bar tenders will actually talk with you when they aren’t serving. They know their beers, and you get the feeling that they really like working there. They have a secret bottle beer stash that isn’t on the menu. The bottles are left over from when papa jakes wanted to stock some top shelf craft beers… they didn’t sell that we’ll, but that means more beer for us :) Firestone Wookie Jack Ommegang Three Philosophers Sorachi Ace… Others..

I stopped in to Papa Jake’s to watch the World Cup finale they have 25(mostly) craft beers on tap and a decent menu. I tried the wings(hot), they were very good. The bartender, Katie, was very attentive and never let my glass be empty for long.

Great food and casual atmosphere. The Fish Fry is awesome! Last time I went, I had a waitress who went the extra mile to run back to the kitchen to claim our table the last two fish! Also, there’s a nice beer selection. I am a picky beer drinker and there were a couple on the menu that I actually wanted to drink that were outside of my regular choices.

My boyfriend lives right around the corner from here and we go there all the time. We’ve tried most of the menu and some of my favorite things are the ribs, fresh cut French fries, and the fish fry. A definite gem!

I used to love this place, but after giving it multiple chances to redeem itself over the past 2 years, I’m officially never going back. The service is non-existent, the food is now just nasty. I cannot say anything about the fish fry cause the last time I had it(over 2 years ago) it was still good, same as their French onion soup. I will focus on today’s visit only since I cannot remember the details of our previous visits in the past 2 years other than that they were all negative. We seated ourselves, as usual. The bartender seemed to be doubling as the waitress which was fine since it wasn’t busy(one other table, and about 5 patrons at the bar). We ordered mozzarella sticks, a burger each, and loaded fries to share. We waited 25min just for the mozzarella sticks. Really? You deep fry some frozen cheese sticks, I think 10−15min is more than reasonable to wait considering there was one other table with only 2 people who were dining. My fiancé didn’t tell me this until we got home, but he said that he didn’t realize until the last mozzarella stick that the Romano cheese they sprinkled on top was MOLDY(since it’s so god damn dark in there). We waited another 10min for our burgers to come out — the rolls they use is just not meant to be a burger roll… they’re dense and cold/stale. I ordered mine medium but it was more like well done, and the sautéed onions and mushrooms they charged me extra for came straight out of a can — GROSS!!! The loaded fries wasn’t any better — the«cheddar cheese» they put on top is the kind where you squeeze out of a box onto your hot dog or nachos at a baseball game. I’m sorry but if you put down cheddar cheese as an ingredient, it better be REAL cheddar cheese!!! Needless to say, both of us got sick right after our visit, likely due to the moldy cheese and general disgust for our entire meal. Oh and did I mention that it smells horribly in there? Kind of like a garbage dump combined with seafood. With the number of amazing restaurant choices available in the area, it’s safe to say that we will never return to papa jakes again. We didn’t even want to go there today, we wanted to go to Grover’s in Amherst for the best burger then second choice was Vizzi’s on kenmore but both were closed on Sundays. We should have just gone to Five Guys burger on Delaware. Oh well, next time!

My new favorite place for a fish fry I’m Buffalo NY. Huge portions, great flavor, and cheap beer at the bar. My only complaint was that it was too dark. I’m all for romantic atmosphere which this place definitely doesn’t accommodate, but it just kinda seemed like they didn’t pay the national grid. I got macaroni salad which was great with my fish fry. My fiancé got potato salad. Both were awesome!

Best fish fry in town? Perhaps. Wait staff isn’t the most attentive but the guys behind the bar are great. Good beer selection and pretty good bar food. I’ve heard great things about the seafood choices but never ventured. One knock(and I know this seems minor) is that they use some generic ketchup. Tastes horrible and ruins their great fries. Parking can be a problem but the atmosphere inside keeps us coming back.

A solid 3 from me for this joint. Hubs wanted some grill food for late lunch on a Saturday around 2PM so we came here. He ordered the steak sandwich, I ordered the Jake burger(hamburger with lettuce, tomato and onion. We also ordered a half order of sweet potato fries. Pros: –I liked the music choice of the bar. I sang along and had a great time LOL. –Bathroom(one toilet) was very clean. –Hubs’ steak sandwich was delicious he said. –Server was good mix of attentive and left us alone when appropriate. Cons: –Parking is a pain. There are four restaurant spots so we pretty much have to park illegally across the street at the office building. –The table was vibrating from the speakers or something. When I put my elbows on the table(I know bad manners but we were in a booth and the table was sooooo faraway from the seat, I needed leverage) my whole body vibrated, and it was a pain! –My burger had no taste to it. It was cooked how I liked, good size, great bread, mushy tomato, quality onion and lettuce, but it didn’t take like anything but ketchup and onion and tomato.

Papa Jake’s was one of our favorites, a go-to when friends came into town. Their stuffed hot peppers and selection of beers won us over. The past few times we’ve gone in, we’ve noticed a decline. To start, my husband ordered a drink, and I ordered a cup of coffee. I went to pour the cream into the cup, and large curdled clumps plopped into my cup of coffee. My husband called the waitress over, and instead of apologizing, asked if we wanted her to take it away. Looking at our table, the catsup bottle had large oozing clumps of dried jellied catusp on it. Again, my husband brought it to our server’s attention, and again, instead of apologizing, asked if we wanted her to clean it. My husband enjoyed his dinner, but we took mine home. After that experience, I was afraid to eat mine, so my husband will probably eat mine too. The one positive is … they didn’t charge us for the coffee. This will probably be our last time going to Papa Jake’s. It makes me sad, as we used to really enjoy it!

A weekend standard with fabulous fries and a great portabella mushroom burger. For whatever reason their ketchup tastes weird to me but people I’m with always tell me I’m crazy. I do love that they serve their fries piping hot — as fries should be served! Always a solid choice but be aware they are very popular Friday and Saturday nights!

As long as I have been living on Hertel, I always drive by Elmwood and see this restaurant. However, I never stopped in because I had no one to go to with. So while it was hot outside and their was a bit of a breeze a friend and I decided to ride our bikes around Delaware Park. I got hungry and wanted to a drink as well, so we decided to stop here and check this place out. I love Chicken, so the first thing I looked for on the menu was Chicken. My friend and I ordered the Chicken parmesan, and we shared it. There was a lot of cheese on it, but other than that it was good. We also ordered fries, it was a little over fried though. The inside of the place was very cool and mellow. The music was really great, and there was air-condition, so I definitely felt good sitting at our table eating and speaking with my friend. After we ate, we also ordered drinks to end the day. I definitely look forward to coming back to this place again, and trying their fish fry. I heard a lot of things about it too. Our waitress was great, and the atmosphere was very friendly. Hated that they did not have Smirnoff Ice though, one of my favorite drinks.

I have been to Papa Jakes a couple times over the past few years here and there. I recently moved to where this is considered a neighborhood bar to me, so now I have been frequenting here more often. I am usually more of a classy, chic, modern type of bar girl. However on the random occasion, I like to «Pub-style» it.(I would like to consider this my «Brennan’s of the city». The bartenders here that I have encountered are all friendly. On my most recent visit, a girlfriend and I met up for happy hour on a week night. Drinks are standard, I usually just go with my typical«Bacardi O and diet» keeping it simple. I have in the past tried a couple of their beers on tap(usually on the bartender’s recommendation). My friend and I shared the Calamari and the Stuffed banana peppers. Both are my favorite appetizer menu item, and my «go to» at pretty much any restaurant I visit. I will admit I was reluctant to order the calamari from here, just because I usually stick to that dish at more of an upscale bar. But I wanted to try it here so we went for it. To my surprise, we were quite impressed with the calamari. It didn’t come with any special dipping sauces, just the standard marinara sauce, but it was up to par. The banana peppers were a shocking let down. They weren’t your typical stuffed banana pepper. For the price of $ 8 or $ 9(cant remember exactly which one) you receive two banana peppers stuffed ONLY with sausage, no cheese blend, then melted mozzarella cheese covered the tops. This was served with nothing… no marinara sauce, no bread, etc. I have ordered this appetizer at many other Buffalo restaurants for the same price(or less) and have received at the least three peppers, stuffed with your typical stuffed pepper blend of cheeses, and accompanied with dipping sauce and fresh bread. I would definitely not recommend ordering these. On a previous visit, my boyfriend and I shared the chicken fingers and french fries. These are some of the best french fries I have had! And the chicken fingers were large, saucy, and delicious. I have also read and heard MANY good things about the fish fry… I will be making my next visit on a Friday and ordering that!

Fish. Fry. Two simple words, but they have so much meaning to people in Buffalo. You have to live elsewhere to understand what a blessing we have in the fish fry. In no other city are you served plates of such size, with such fried goodness presented before you. So if the fish fry is good, and we must ask our self«where should we go for one?». I would make an argument for Papa Jakes. Served with a heap of some of the best french fries you’re ever going to eat, the fish is perfectly cooked, flaky and hot in the middle with a nice crunch of the breading. The beer is excellent, and the servers actually know what they’re selling. The only drawback is the size of the joint. It’s crowded, and the wait can be pretty bad. Outside patio faces a bust stretch of Elmwood, so don’t expect to sit outside unless you like the rumble of trucks and smoke in your face.

Whoa. I’m in such a food coma I can hardly type. I went for the fish fry with a friend tonight and it was simply amazing. When the choice of sides is mac or potato salad, I always go for the potato. But Crab-Mac salad? Yum! I’m not big fan of cold slaw but that was good too. And even though I typically leave some fries behind, those fresh cut fries were not escaping my stomach. Big plus: a quarter lemon wedge. Why some places think a beverage-sized lemon slice for a fish fry is acceptable will forever escape me. Now we waited 40 minutes for a table which is fine. I expected that. But we stood at the door for at least 10, maybe 15 minutes before anyone addressed us. Several other parties came in during that time and left. Some of them stayed and I started to get worried if they would be honest when it came time to put names on a wait list. Once we were sat, it was another 5 to 10 minutes before a waitress came to our table. Several passed by, looked at us; but none said, «Someone will be right with you.» These are my only complaints. I think one suggestion for improvement would be to have a hostess staffed for that busy, Friday dinner shift; someone to promptly great customers at the door, take names for the list, inform you of the wait time, and maybe even serve your drinks once you are seated. Despite these minor annoyances, the dinner was TOTALLY worth it and I will definitely be back.
