For those of you who don’t know, the Ride for Roswell is an annual event where people come together to raise money for cancer research and treatment. Bicyclists raise money for months leading up to the big ride, and can select a distance from among the various distances ranging from 8 miles to 100 miles. The event kicks off with an opening night ceremony. This is the night when riders pick up their t-shirts, donations and donations are turned in. Vendors give out free samples, and small goodies. There are guest speakers, and it usually ends with a free concert. This year was Leann Rimes. Everything was extremely well organized and the videos/speeches were short but highly effective. The research programs that the fundraising supports are outlined briefly, and there is a time for survivors(wearing free t-shirts distributed at the event) are invited to stand to receive recognition. All in all, this is a great event that brings survivors and their families together with the community to support this wonderful fundraising effort.
