I love that this place is downtown and outside. Maybe it has just been the times that I have gone but there is just something special about skating downtown with a little snowfall, and with these huge buildings all around you. I honestly could see this setting in a romantic movie. I also like that it is cheap, if you have your own skates you can go for free, or you can rent for $ 3 for adults, or $ 2 for kids. I took my family skating and it only cost $ 10, how awesome is that! The employees were super laid back and nice! The downside is that the inside is a little small, cramped, and dirty. It is nice that they have a snack bar but they were out of everything we wanted hot chocolate and a hot pretzel. I’d choose an outside skating rink over an inside one any day!

The skating season of 2014 is free! You still have to pay if you need to rent, but it’s super cheap — $ 3 for adults and $ 2 for children. Skating here is a fantastic way to enjoy downtown Buffalo — just gotta dress warm if you plan on braving it out on the ice during the polar vortexes second coming! If the weather is dicey, call ahead and check if they’re open: 716−854-RINK. Happy skating!

I’ve been skating here every winter since I came to Buffalo for college. I’m really glad this place exists because I’ve had some great times there with friends, but it has its ups and downs. Pluses: –Skating is free, and rental is only $ 3. –They offer free lockers to stash your stuff. –Having an outdoor rink downtown somehow makes Buffalo seem like a cooler city. They hold a Christmas tree lighting there in December which contributes to this effect as well. –Sometimes they play great music, depending on who’s working. Minuses: –Some of the rental skates are painful or really beat up. I bought my own skates last winter, and it’s definitely been worth it. –If you go in the afternoon/evening on weekends, it can get really crowded, which is annoying and potentially dangerous if you’re not very good at dodging speedy little kids. They now close earlier on the weekends to minimize fights. Weeknights and lunchtime are usually a better bet. –The food is not the greatest, but I guess it’s about what you’d expect from an ice rink. Overall I would recommend it. Just go on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday and bring your own skates.
