Open only until 3pm. Sign says so on the Shack. Unilocal’s data that it was open at dinner time was wrong.

It is a hidden jewel in WNY. I love this place. The food is so original and good. What I appreciate is the owner is so willing to accomadate you when ordering and will attempt to make the order to your liking. I have called several times and he has explained what a particular menu item included. He has never made me feel rushed and was always friendly on arrival. You should always check on what specials might be available. You will be pleasantly surprised!

Had the Pita Pizza special recommended by Rick. He brewed fresh ice tea while I waited. Sliced pineapple for my side that was perfectly ripe so he bailed on the cantaloupe. Great find!

If I could give a place six stars, Shack on Delaware would be truly deserving. This place has everything I want in a restaurant: amazing food, wonderful customer service, and is just an interesting place to visit. The Shack on Delaware is exactly what it sounds like, a shack. You could drive right past the small red shack and completely miss it, as I did on our first visit. There’s not a ton of room to park, but if you’re not afraid to cross Delaware Ave, there’s parking on the side streets on the other side. It was a sunny day when we went, so we could see a good time to cross over and see what was really going on in that little red shack. Upon entering, there’s a small counter and a few stools that fit two comfortably, three in a pinch. If you have a larger group, you’ll want to consider a takeout order. Luckily, there was a picnic table outside, which I bet is always taken during the warm months. Going to the Shack is like climbing inside your favorite food truck. You’re sitting right next to the kitchen, so you can see where the magic happens. Kim was there on the day we went, and she was happily chatting with us as she prepared our lunches. She gave us control of the TV, which is a risk because you never know what someone is going to want to watch!(full disclosure: in our case, it was a Property Brothers marathon.) We got to sit back and relax while our food was prepared. Kim was super friendly and professional, and a great cook to boot! We each got black bean burgers, since they were out of eggplant parm when we went, which means we’ll just have to find time to return again. I know, what a hardship! I added the potato salad, and it was a great choice. The black bean burgers were spicy, but not so much that I couldn’t finish, and the potato salad wasn’t your average potato salad. You could really taste every single flavor in each bite. Finally, since I checked in on Unilocal,we got to try the infamous check in brownie. Unilocalers, the brownie is worth the price of admission. I can’t think of more to say than to just babble about how unbelievably great that brownie was, and it feeds two people quite well. The Shack on Delaware is worth the visit. Stop in, squeeze up at the counter, or just place a takeout order. Either way, you’ll be getting fantastic food and customer service to match. We’ll definitely be back, we still have to try the eggplant parm!

Madness. How can this tiny place create such wonderful meals? Hard work, talent, and love, I reckon. The Shack Steak is delectable. The burger connoisseur in our group said the one she had at the Shack was the best burger she’s ever had. Your host Rick is the man. Get to the Shack. NOW!

Ok, so I’ve been asking and asking if The Shack was going to have a Reuben Sandwich this week… and finally Yes today was the day. I was a little hesitant because Rick wasn’t going to be there tonight and I wondered if the food and service would be as good if he wasn’t there. Well, I have got to say that Kim rocks!!! She made me the first Reuben of the day/week and she also shared with me that it was actually the first time she ever made a Reuben… well she is a born natural! It was delicious. It was definitely apparent that this was corned beef that was cooked in-house(a zillion times better than sliced from the deli). My only thing that would have put it over the top is if I would have ordered it on Pumpernickel. I didn’t think to ask if it was available. So I just want to also put it out there if you are even hesitating for a minute about stopping by because Rick isn’t around… well DON’T…get to the Shack and visit Kim. Super friendly, and same great service and food as when Rick is there. Cya soon Kim!!!

So so so delicious. Ordered homemade meatball sandwich and steak sandwich both were delicious. And the service was amazing as well. Cozy homemade food!

I had one of the best restaurant experiences in WNY at The Shack! I had never been here before my dining experience last week but had probably driven by a hundred times before. It was so worth the stop — this place has to be one of the best little restaurants in the area! When I arrived with my friend, we were warmly greeted by who I later found out was the owner. The place was smaller than I had anticipated but it was warm and inviting on a cold winter evening. The owner informing us of the specials(i am still sad i didnt get the lasagna!). The menu was expansive and I enjoyed the variety. Another super cool option — vegetarian food was on the menu — that may not seem like a big deal but often times, I go out to eat with my daughter and there are places we cannot go to because they dont offer a veggie option. The Shack totally does! I decided to go for the 8oz burger — it was the day before lent and I needed my meat fix. I definitely wasn’t disappointed. I watched the owner, Rick, make the burger from scratch and when it was finished, it was a perfect medium with my choice of fixings. It also came with a side of potato salad — seriously, that burger didn’t even need a side but it was a nice addition. I ate every bit of the burger while talking to the owner and my friend. As we dined, people came in to get pick up orders or to place orders and let me tell you, it felt like i was in Cheers — everyone was greeted with a smile and many were known by name — how cool is that? It truly is a testate to the food and to the service that each and everyone of us receive when we walk through the door. I also checked in when I was there so I got a free Brownie — that was so pretty I didn’t want to eat it(not really but it was pretty darn cute). So all in all, an exceptional experience with delicious food and a kick a** owner who loves his customers as much as he loves his business — I cannot wait to go back to The Shack again!

This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had! I didn’t know what to expect but I saw all the good reviews so thought I would try it out. We went on a Friday night and intended to get take out but when we saw no one was there we dined in. Rick was there and sooo welcoming. We had a two year old and he was so good evenGave her free fruit while the food was being prepared. I got the lobster bisque and we ordered the butternut squash soup for her. I still can’t decide which one was better! The bisque was amazing! It was like we were in Maine. Our two year old drank the soup so fast I didn’t get very much! For dinner I had the lobster roll which was so good. Highly recommend it. Can’t find many places in buffalo that serve real lobster but this place does! When we were finishing up Rick gave our daughter a free brownie piece for being so good. I thought that was so sweet! Such a nice touch! I cannot wait to go back!

Definitely enjoyed this meal. Wouldnt call it «fast-food» …rather a call ahead for pick-up. We stopped by to order and waited 20 minutes or so. They delivered it out to our car though, so we didn’t have to stand around. I had a chicken solvaki wrap and split a lobster roll. Both were delicious. They are on the smaller size, in general. We had a Unilocal offer for a free brownie upon checkin… glad we did, it was a perfect ending. Would definitely return.

I’ve been wanting to try the Shack for a long time. Long before they made the Unilocal Top 100 list. So when a meeting brought me out this way during the weekday, I knew opportunity was knocking. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a huge news camera on the shoulder of one of Buffalo’s well-known reporters from Channel 7. On the tiny counter was huge array of the Shack’s menu items. Caught off-guard but obviously amused, I listened to the Shack’s owner(Rick) introduce each menu item. Rick was clearly pleased that it was my first time trying the Shack and went out of his way to make me feel welcome. He even offered to let me try things while I waited for my meal, and he gave me a free brownie. I went with the«Shack Steak» because it looked amazing and I heard about it on Unilocal. This was clearly not the«healthy menu option» but if you’re going to splurge on calories, make it worthwhile! And boy was this worth it … Rick cooked the sandwich fresh as I waited. I could see him tossing ingredients in the frying pan and the smell of onions quickly permeated the tiny shack. The sandwich was served on a fresh Costanzo roll and oozed sauteed mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, onions and cheese. I inhaled it. The brownie was also delicious. Not too«fudgey» but with some chocolate icing on top. Just as good as its reputation! I finally see why the Shack has a near-perfect rating. Here’s another 5 stars!

I finally made it out here last weekend. I took a gamble on there being an in-house seat available and it paid off. Although, I’d say this is probably best considered a take-out joint. There is only seating for 3 – 5 depending on personal size and need for space. I ordered the steak sandwich and a side of potato salad. The girl working was very hospitable and suggested I start with a bowl of the shrimp corn chowder. Wow! It was a little thin for a chowder but the taste was outstanding. It took some time to get my sandwich. Just a note: don’t come expecting to be quick. But I had plenty of time, so that wasn’t a problem. The sandwich was delicious and loaded with fresh spinach, tomato and mushrooms. Unfortunately, the potato salad didn’t come out until some time after. I tried to pace myself but the sandwich was so good and thus a few bites from gone when the potato salad appeared. It had some unique seasoning in it; I can’t pinpoint it but it was something different and unexpected. Now I am not a huge fan of sweets or a chocolate, so the last dessert I would choose would be a brownie. But there was a check-in offer and I had heard good things. So what the heck — O.M.G! Seriously. I took the offer to have it served warm and this was just heavenly; so very good. I would come back just for the brownie — and they’re not even my thing.

It was a. warm and sunny Christmas Eve?! Yeah, it was. It was a wonderful day, sunny and nice. I’d spent most of the morning doing some geocaching, and I had stopped at a cache located right across the street. Delicious smells started wafting over towards me, making my stomach grumble. I tucked the geocache back into place, and decided it was time to stop for lunch. I was one of the only customers in there that day, and Kim was there. She seemed pleased to have someone to visit, and we spent a nice lunchtime chatting while she prepared my order. White Christmas was playing on the television. My shrimp and rice was very festive and colorful and adorable. So, this place is literally a shack. It’s not large enough to accommodate more than a few people at a time, but it does pump out some delicious food. This was only my first visit, but I’ll be back. Thanks, Kim!

I pretty much told my gf that we had to go here just cuz I like new places and good food! So while thrift shopping we called in our order of two orders of nachos and two orders of curry shrimp and rice. Drove on over and saw this happy man opening doors in a tee shirt amongst the wind and snow. He smiled and said hello and went in. After attempting to go in the kitchen door(I’m unobservant) I found my way in. The man behind the counter says«is that you two I just saw? Why don’t you come on in and eat?» Ok I thought he should have company! I get Kim and we sit at the bar(there’s 3 seats). While he’s preparing our lunches he’s full of life, happiness and passion. This is his place and his name is Rick. He chatted with us about lots of things and gave us the remote to the tv and turned off his country music so we could hear it. When the food came on a paper plate I felt like I was at my brothers house for a cookout. It was flavorful, perfectly sized and I’ve not eaten that fast in I’m not sure how long! It was wonderful. But what made this even more wonderful was Rick. This man cares. This is his life. He is more than willing to mix it up if you want a little bit of a difference than what something comes with. In fact he did that today for us! I’m glad to have met this awesome human and can’t wait to go back again! It might be called a shack but it’s nothing short of a food palace! «Like a small boat on the ocean, sending big waves into motion»

Needless to say I was not impressed with this place. Maybe it was what I ordered? I got a lobster roll over the summer and it wasn’t great, I’m not a mayo person and all I tasted was mayo. The roll was soggy and I just overall didn’t enjoy it. I was super disappointed because I herd such good things about this place but I’m hesitant to come back. I hope that if I do I will love it. Maybe I’ll try sticking to some regular things on the menu.

I could have sworn I thought i reviewed this place already but looks like I didn’t. I’ll keep it short because there isn’t really anything else to say that hasn’t been said by all the other 5 star reviews. Great good, Very Awesome pricing and the owner is wonderful! I will be back again when I’m in the area!

Okay, I have been back to Shack on Delaware a few times since my first review and this place, and Rick doesn’t disappoint. I recently just had an amazing Shrimp Corn Chowder and Veggie Souvlaki. This place is so unique and such a gem for Kenmore that I almost want to kick myself for not supporting this business sooner. Don’t get me wrong, the food is excellent for the prices that you are paying, but the food is great! I am a huge fan of the Smoked Salmon sandwich with extra horseradish. The Shrimp Corn Chowder I had the other day was so unbelievable that I was sad I didn’t have more. Besides the amazing food, Rick, the owner is amazing. Every time I go there he makes me feel so incredibly welcomed and he handles my need to ask about any minuet changes to the menu with patience and class. How many times can you say that you get a face to face experience with your chef most of the time when we you go eat out? I have always had the opportunity to conversant with Rick and his passion for what he does flows into the amazing food that he serves up. Seriously, if you haven’t tried this place, go, do, it NOW!

Make the time and eat at the Shack. This is a VERY small place — but the food is great. The owner(Richard) is incredible, and everything is made right there where you can watch and see the care and attention that goes into everything. Prices are almost unbelievable. Daily specials with a Facebook page to look them up — constantly busy but still pretty darn quick. Plenty of outdoor seating and there are several places inside if you want to be cozy. Extensive number of choices, we’ll definitely be back to try out many more items. And don’t forget your Brownie for checking in on Unilocal

Do you like food trucks? Shack On Delaware isn’t one, but it’s the size of one. The only difference is, unlike all the other Buffalo Food Trucks, S.O.D. is *amazing*. If you have not tried it yet, you are *truly* missing out. I’ve been here 5 or 6 times now — every single item on every single visit was magnificent. To read more info, you’re going to have to scroll past all my bad jokes, though… What to order: the burger«Edgar Style» made like a steak sandwich, the chicken sandwich, the brownie. SO I once had a girlfriend named Della. And she had a huge crush on any and every NBA player. As some girls do. And some boys do. In any case, one day, I had Shaquille O’Neal guest-rapping on Anderson Brown during a concert, and after the concert, he hung out backstage and met Della. She was instantly enamoured, and I wasn’t sure whether to feel giddy for her, or insecure for myself. Instead I just went into the other room and signed autographs. Some time later, one of my entourage came running in, and said… «Fox… um… I dunno how to tell you this… but the Lakers guy is on top of your girlfriend right now somewhere out back.» «Shaq on Della?! Where?!?» I exclaimed. Needless to say, after I committed coitus interruptus, Della and I broke up(but not because of that, it was apparently because my music was too boring for her. She promptly moved to LA), and the rest is history. But what I didn’t know is that one of the chef/head waiters from a very well known and fancy downtown Buffalo restaurant had been listening in, and had misheard my booming question«Shaq on Della? Where?» as the voice of the Good Lord herself, and thought it was telling him that he must immediately open up a restaurant named… Shack On Delaware. And that is how we got to where we are today. This tiny little hut used to be a Metabolife Seller(if you don’t know what Metabolife is, I’m proud of you), but now it is the biggest secret in the Western NY Food World. It literally has some of the best cr*p you will ever taste… anywhere… ever. And yet almost nobody knows about it. I have to credit Maria, who has been championing this place for ages, and Edgar, who took the most appealing photos imaginable of his food, for inspiring me to go here. And once I did, my goodness, I become a mega-fan. Not a megaphone(although I can be quite loud, especially when I am on the mic at a show), but a mega fan, in fact I have been here 3 times in a few weeks. Once you go, you will become addicted. It’s hands down one of the best(and wettest and juiciest) burgers in Buffalo. The chicken sandwich is off-the-charts delicious. The steak sandwich is utterly amazing(and very bad for you, but very worth it). Better yet you can get the burger made«like a steak sandwich» with the greens and everything… basically almost anything on this menu will rock your world. The dolma are even good, and he makes some salads and healthy options. I’m not a huge fan of the«plastic olives» on the salad but a lot of people do that. Come here and try a steak sandwich, or try a burger made like a steak sandwich(see Edgar’s pix and my pix and you’ll have some idea of what you’re getting). As an aside, the brownie will blow you away too. I don’t even like brownies, but this is the best one I’ve ever tasted. It’s like eating a mini chocolate molten lava cake or black forest gateaux or something. An expensive cake, but instead it’s priced as a little cheap brownie. One of the hidden gems of Buffalo… try it before it disappears… try it so it stays in business… if you love it, send all your friends here. It only has about 4 seats but my goodness. Wow. Sometimes the wait times are long, but he tries to be as fast as possible, so call ahead if you are in a hurry at all. We’re talking about a master chef and food lover preparing cheap $ 5 fast food, here. It’s heavy, it’s filling, most importantly it’s utterly delicious. He’s a super-friendly owner too that will go absolutely way way way out of his way to make sure you have a great time. Very sociable and fun. He’ll tell you all about his plans for the future if you ask, too. Please go and try the Shack On Delaware. It’s that good. You absolutely must try it. Just look at the pictures. It tastes as good as it looks, if not better. And if Shaquille O’Neal borrows your gf, or bf, while you are here eating, well just ignore it, eat your delicious food, let your partner have their fun in the most un-jealous way possible, and then afterwards, ask them if the rumours are really true about the Shaq Pack.
