The Art of Shaving

i kind of forgot that i had to do a review for this establishment
we live in an age where beards are in full swing… to the point where the normal shaving companys are loosing millions upon millions of dollars on a quarterly basis (true story)
there is a huge demand for these so called «retro» or «classic» stores with old school methods of ways to do things.
personally, and a bit of a disclaimer, i’ve grown a full fledge beard and pretty decent goatee… not out of want, but out of laziness. the last time i bought a pack of razors was sept 2012… and i had a coupon… and i still have four blades left…
now your probably asking why the heck would i choose to go to a shaving specific store.
i first heard about the art of shaving through a friend of mine, who is «dabbling» in beard oils. personally i love beard oils and i love my beard being very smooth, and not rough and coarse. i was extremely intrigued to find that… the art of shaving carried such products.
when i intially walked into this store, i felt out of place, like i didn’t belong, not for nothing, but its an extremely clean, dark, and mellow feeling room. i was amazed with the selection of actual shavers, razors and other gadgets.
manual, electric, straight, single, multi, forwards, backwards, and everything between. selection is amazing. except for the beard oil, i was approached by the service rep, and when i requested beard oil, they only had two «flavors» both of them left me in shock as to the size of the product, and the fact that both the «citrus» and «vanilla» flavor were extremely mellow, you could barely smell the scent.
i thanked the rep for his time and politely declined.
very awesome to go in and look at, might be worth it if you actually need to shave, but was a waste of time for myself personally.

Clearly I am not the target audience. However, I am occasionally with members of their target audience who love this place. They love the salespeople, although, like the other reviewer, I find it odd there are women working here. I personally would prefer someone who has used the product myself. However, the men in my life don’t care. They like the store. The environment. The products (although we do find them cheaper on line on occasion. Kind of like Wen Shampoo, if you know what you are looking for you can buy on-​line at times.
4 stars because it makes the men in my life happy. Even though its a chain, I have to bump it up one for that.

As far as options in Buffalo for a shaving specialty store this is all you got. I can not say I was all that satisfied. The clerk trying to sell me on the products was a woman. She might be a great employee, but clearly she has never used the products. You want the employees to have used the various products and give a fair review based on experience.
Prices at the store seem highly inflated. For example Merkur replacement blades were $ 13, you can find these online for much cheaper. The store, with a few exceptions, sells there own brand and does not offer the widest selection.
Also the sales person was quite pushy on the more expensive straight razors over the safety razors. From personal experience safety razors give a better shave, and seems to be back by the shaving community in general.
Final recommendation: take a look around, do some research online and come to your own conclusions for product quality and price.
