90 Degree weather is not necessarily the best time for doing a walking tour with almost zero shade, but I think it went off without a hitch! We all met up at Swannie House, although the tour itself really started at Riverfest Park. It was pretty well organized, although I would have personally preferred a tiny bit more moving than standing. This may be influenced by the weather, though. All in all it was a very useful and informative tour, Lee and I learned plenty of things about Buffalo that we didn’t know previously, and Alex as awesome as always!

What an excellent tour of the Buffalo river front by Explore Buffalo. We met at the Swannie House on a hot May afternoon before heading over to River Fest Park where we were provided with a variety of information, such as that the park was founded in 2011. We then moved on over to the other side of Ohio Street and then to the Cobblestone District, Harbor Center, Canalside and lastly the foot of Michigan Avenue before making our way back to the Swannie House. I loved hearing all of the information about the river front and I particularly loved the commentary about General Mills… particularly because my dad happens to work there :) I hope I can someday go on the EM Cotter fire boat, the oldest fire boat in the world! Our tour guide, Maureen, was incredibly knowledgeable about all things Buffalo, very impressive! Overall, another great tour from Explore Buffalo that I had the privilege of going on! Thank you for trying to find shade for us and for the awesome tan when shade wasn’t available! Can’t wait to check out more Explore Buffalo tours this summer… Thank you Alex!

On a hot day in Buffalo NY a group of intrepid Unilocalers gathered outside in the blazing sun. The area was just outside of Swannie House, near the Casino. The tour was of the waterfront area. It’s an up and coming area. Ballyhoo opened recently. Some houses have a fresh coat of paint. People are kayaking on the Buffalo River, and they don’t have to dodge refuse in the water. Our tour was lead by one of the Explore Buffalo tour guides(Maureen). She was terrific. Totally knew her subject. Cold. She was engaging and informative. While we walked a lot it was all a very easy pace. Even with the surprising heat we were able to have a nice pace with plenty of shade along the way. Her knowledge of the history and local area is very impressive. Ask if Maureen is running your tour and you are bound to learn a lot. Thanks Alex for organizing a great Relax and Recharge event.
