A Rainbow School

I have waited almost a year to write this review because I was so angry. Honestly when my daughter first started this school, everything was great but this was my first time taking my daughter to any school. I even looked at several before deciding. They taught her a lot and she seemed to like it… For awhile. Then she started not wanting to go saying people were mean to her. I tried telling my then 4 year old to stay away from those people and notify the teacher of any issues. I even tried talking to the teachers myself asking if they noticed anything and they said they will look out for her. Ok… A little bit of time went by and things seemed fine until my daughter brought it up again. So I went to the teachers and her response was «kids will be kids» and that «they need to learn to work out their issues themselves» UMMM WHAT? I started looking at other schools that would work with my schedule. Later my daughter said she was hit. I wondered why the teacher wouldn’t tell me and confronted them. They said they never heard or saw anything but once again they said they will watch. I was skeptical and made sure my daughter understood she could talk to me about anything. So a little time went by again… Then my daughter complained of pain in her face under her chin. I asked why and she said she was hit again by a little boy. I went back but spoke with another teacher. She admitted that the head teacher doesn’t tell parents when a child is hit unless a mark was left… WTF?!? I got my daughter out of there by the end of the week. They don’t seem to take bullying or issues seriously. Even when this boy was biting kids, they did nothing but mention it to the parents. The child that got bit ended up leaving the school because they would rather keep that little kid instead of keeping the others safe. That kid ended up biting again. I don’t recommend this school because of the way they handle things. I felt awful I had to wait as long as I did to get my daughter out of there but we found another great school in Burbank and she has been happy and thriving ever since.

My son attended Rainbow School for 3 years. He recently started kindergarten and still asks about visiting his teachers and friends at Rainbow School.
My husband and I were very lucky to find such a wonderful, reasonably priced school so close to work. We researched other schools in the area and this one met all of our needs. The tuition was reasonable and it included breakfast, snacks and lunch! The school has both a classroom and home feel to it which was important to me because I wanted my son to be comfortable in his new environment. He was at home with my husband and had never attended any type of daycare before. The Rainbow School environment was just right for him and he adjusted very well.
The teachers are great and very loving with the children. Rainbow School is structured which is exactly what children need at that age. My son received positive reinforcement on a daily basis and always had fun while attending. The teachers were in constant communication with me and my husband.
We are forever grateful for the love, attention and education our son received from the loving teachers at Rainbow School. They gave him a solid foundation and he is now flourishing in kindergarten.
I would never leave my son somewhere that I did not feel comfortable. Having the peace of mind knowing that my son was being well taken care of is something you cannot put a price on. I have nothing but good things to say about this little hidden gem in the city of Burbank. I wish I had discovered Rainbow School earlier as I would have sent my two older children there as well. We were very fortunate that there was room for my son to attend.
I wholeheartedly recommend Rainbow School.

I found myself on this page and felt it imperative that I write a review of my beloved Rainbow School.
Our daughter attended from age 2 to age 5, and my husband and I were so impressed. The staff is attentive, engaged, and wonderful (one of our daughter’s teachers still babysits for us.) The children get home-​cooked lunches included in the tuition, as well as a morning and afternoon snack each day. The staff also toilet-​trained our daughter (and we were using cloth diapers, and they rolled with that just fine.)
Here’s one thing they will not tolerate: children who behave like animals. If you don’t say «no» to your child, this is not the school for you. Rainbow School is a structured traditional preschool and uses timeouts when necessary — and my husband and I both appreciated that the school reinforced the manners and good behavior we were establishing at home. Our child started kindergarten not only well-​prepared, but, frankly, over-​prepared.
All this said, our daughter also had a ball at Rainbow School playing, having lots of fun, and making great friends.
Oh, and unbelievably, Rainbow School is by far the least expensive preschool you will find. The school was recommended to me, and now I’m thrilled to recommend it to all of you.

It has been a while since my son was kicked out of the school yes kicked out at 2 years old because they claimed they were not babysitters horrible women in charge teachers did not care about the children would grab the children and wanted them to be like robots I’ve been wanting to write this review for a long time I would not recommend this school for any children numerous excuses to not take care of the children I would receive a call almost everyday when I would go to work saying my son has the sniffles or his nose is running you need to pick him up awful awful awful people. Again I have witnessed first-​hand teachers grabbing children by their arms and yanking them from the floor. I wish I can give no stars to the school and all parents need to know about the school

I purposely waited 4 months before writing this review. I was too upset back in October and want to be fair with my review.
My daughter went to Rainbow School for 2 years. We were new to Burbank, we looked around, saw about 5 different places and decided this might be a good place for her. She was 2 years old and we liked this place for her because 1.) It’s small 2.) Mixed age, so she will learn from older children 3.) They serve warm meals 4.) They potty train at no extra charge 5.) Hours and rate
So, why after all these positive points listed am I only giving Rainbow School 2 Stars? Throughout the two years I have had many incidences when I wanted to pull my daughter out of this school and find another place. But I said to myself I will keep one eye shut and pick my battles. Once my daughter started talking and was able to express her thoughts better, things became clearer to me.
First, if you are looking for a place where there is compassion from the adults working there, this is probably NOT the place for your child. On my daughter’s first few days we brought her «blankie» with her. This is not something Rainbow school supports. Even though they let me bring it when I dropped her off, they only let us put it on the counter top. In my daughter’s new school they are allowed to bring a security item, no big deal. Rainbow School is about discipline, if you prefer strict discipline over compassion and positive reinforcements, then this school might be the one you are looking for. You will learn this stringent style from Teacher Lorena (who has been the teacher for years and years) and the owner Miss Kathy.
I’m going to try to keep it brief on these next few items:
My daughter was already almost 4 years old and I never saw her name on the board for «XXX Can Read These Words». The words on the grid includes words like «brother» «children» My daughter reads perfectly fine at home but not at a 6 year old level. What kind of pre-​school makes 3−4−5 year olds 7 – 8 letter words? Need to update their curriculum.
When we signed the contract we were told that our daughter was allowed one week vacation and we did not have to pay. When the time came for us to take that one week all of a sudden the rules have changed. They no longer allow free vacation days and I received a 2-​page letter from Miss Kathy explaining why and that my daughter will lose her spot. That is all well and good but should I have received a note that the rules were changed prior to implementing the new rule?
There was a week when I was taking my daughter in late around 11am because my in-​laws were in town and wanted to spend more time with their grand daughter. When my mother in law got back to the car she said to me «That teacher made me feel really bad in front of everyone. She said to me in a strong tone. Is she going to be dropped off this late everyday? We already planned for lunch.» Wow, really? Another cup will ruin the whole lunch plan? Half of the issue is the tone. This is like a military school where flexibility is not welcomed.
There were many other events but I will get to the event which I considered «the straw that broke the camel’s back». My daughter is already 4yo at this stage. So she can clearly tell me what «really» happened. On a Monday I forgot to unpack the blankets in her backpack so the daily report said «no nap today». I asked my daughter and she said because she didn’t have blankets. My daughter said she sat on the pink chair. I felt awful as it was my fault. BUT two days later it happened again. Daily note read «No nap today». Again I asked my daughter and this is how the conversation went…
Me: My dear, why didn’t you have a nap today
Daughter: Mom, my blankets were wet
Me: Why were they wet?
Daughter: Because I had a little accident yesterday and I didn’t tell them
Me: Why didn’t you tell them so Mommy could’ve washed your blankets
Daughter: I was scared to tell them mom
Me: Why were you scared to tell them?
Daughter: Because they will get mad at me
Me: I’m sorry. What did you do instead of nap
Daughter: I sat on the pink chair again while everyone slept and I was tired. I don’t like the pink chair mom
My heart broke into pieces. I was upset, I was very very disappointed.
Red flag, red flag, red flag. Why was my daughter scared of them? Why were they punishing my child? Why do they isolate kids? Why didn’t they know she had an accident? A phone call to me would’ve been nice.
I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I went the day after to talk to Teacher Lorena. I told her my daughter was not returning to Rainbow School. I asked her if I can donate spare clean blankets to the school to avoid this situations again. She said the school is not allowed to use blankets that is not from the child’s home.
We found another school two blocks away. A happier environment for our daughter.

Even read several negative reviews, just thought of giving visit and decide from there. Really all negative reviews are worth to this. When I called and spoke they were so rude and didn’t provide polite answer to the questions which I asked. When they are rude on asking question itself I am not sure how they are going to handle children with patience. I concluded in 5 mins call itself that they are not going to be my kid’s teacher. I strongly suggest think twice before letting your kid into this school. Although there is no choice definitely I wont take this as choice. Be careful before you let your kid into this school. Its my personal opinion perception varies according to the experience.

My daughter went to this school for a little over 2 years. I would not recommend this school to ANYONE. There are several instances where I wanted to change her but
she would be starting school soon, and felt it was better to wait it out. I remember
my daughter got sick one day from eating strawberries there at her facility, and the owner Ms. Kathy when I walked in proceeded to tell me that my daughter threw up
all over her BRANDNEW carpet. She was 2 or 3 at the time… I thought that was very rude. She is a child and didn’t do it on purpose! Also, in Pre-​K my daughter had a lunchbox so I packed her a few snacks in there (she was excited to use it) only to be given a 2 page long letter on the defense about how Mr. Kathy doesn’t know what my child told me but that the food is just fine there at Rainbow School, and she would appreciate it if I didn’t send her a lunchbox anymore. She raised the rates on me and not other parents and that wouldn’t speak to me when I found out about it. I could go on and on… my daughter would tell me during Nap time that Ms. Kathy would sit on her (her friends who went there too) also said it (I only heard this after she had left already) I thought that was strange. The only reason I kept her there is because the rates were cheapest in town but I would not recommend this place.

I absolutely recommend this school. My son attended this school for almost a year and immediately began to grow and grow everyday he was there. He learned so much. The teachers are amazing. They are loving, patient and were very good to my son! I always felt he was safe there. The school is very organized and clean. I do not have any negative things to say about this school. I loved it!

I couldn’t believe that as a prospective parent I was able to freely walk into the school and to where the kids play. The young lady giving a tour was arrogant and a «ms. Know it all.» I asked to see their kitchen and she didn’t allow it. Really? what’s in the kitchen that you’re hiding? Also, all kids share the same toilet. All ages play together outside at the same time. The two teachers who were watching the kids outside seemed bored and uninterested to say the least. What a joke!

I was a clueless mother who didn’t know the first thing about finding a daycare. I needed to find a daycare/​preschool for my 3 year old in 2 days. I didn’t know where to start so I looked up the schools in the Burbank area here on Unilocal.I saw a few really good reviews so I decided to check it out. After visiting 2 other schools besides Rainbow School, I immediately knew that Rainbow School was the one for my son.
I read some previous reviews which criticized the school’s condition. If you’re comparing this school to one of those big factories with state-​of-​the-​art everything and shiny paint, yeah, I can see why you would comment on this school’s appearance. But folks, we’re not paying these lovely teachers to impress our kids with a shiny, brand new school. Rainbow School has been around for a while. What they lack in appearance, they make up for everywhere else. The structure, the teachers, the food, the care, and the discipline — that’s why I chose this school. All of those things were exceptional.
The toys, the play areas, the sleeping cots, etc. are all in good, clean condition. The teachers take great care to make the place stay organized and super clean.
PLUS, they potty-​trained my son at no extra charge. Some schools will require your child to be potty-​trained first before enrolling. Other schools will tack on an extra fee to train your child. All they asked was that I start him practicing during the weekend and BOOM! In one week, my son was potty-​trained!
I just really have to praise all the teachers for being so wonderful to my son while we were there. I was going through the tail-​end of my breast cancer treatment and working full-​time, all while going through the process of divorce. It was a rough time for me and my son, but Rainbow School provided the structure, care, education, and support that we needed.
The snacks and lunches provided are healthy and made on-​site. The price is incredibly affordable and well-​worth every penny. Ms. Kathy and her staff are amazing and their experience and knowledge are apparent in everything they do.
I am sad that we have to move schools because we’ve relocated, but my son will always remember his time at Rainbow School.

Rainbow School is the best! My children loved there time at Rainbow School and the teachers are amazing. Friendly, clean and well managed. They have daily lunches and snacks that are healthy and amazing. Having learning programs for the kids too. Met so many friendly wonderful family there too! I would recommend Rainbow School to anyone looking for a preschool.

This school was exactly what my child needed when we arrived in LA.
His previous school allowed tv and was not very educational.
There is great structure here. The discipline is great too and best of all lunch was provided, which meant he ate things he would never eat at home. We did a lot of research into pre schools in Burbank. We visited at least 6. We had him enrolled at another large school and pulled him out so he could go to Rainbow School. It is a small school and amazing value. We are so glad we found it. My son now attends Saint Finbar in Burbank. Without Rainbow School he would not have been ready for school. Bit of a change from the old days!
