Perfect work! You’d never know it was redone. John answered all my questions over the phone and then sent Spenser and another worker over to retrofit some cabinetry. They arrived on time, worked neatly and efficiently and charged a very fair price. John helped me save $ by suggesting a way to get the desired results that was much less expensive. True Grain=Truly Great.

Words cannot express how grateful I am to have found John at TrueGrain to completely transform our kitchen! We were on a pretty strict budget and so we originally were thinking to buy/​install an Ikea kitchen, but I really didn’t like the look of the Ikea cabinets. Then, we were going to buy Ikea boxes and have custom fronts made by Semi Handmade. But, Semi Handmade was going to take 8 – 10 weeks and we didn’t have that kind of time. Plus, we didn’t realize how expensive it would be to install Ikea cabinets! All of the installation quotes we received were astronomical, so any deal you are getting by buying Ikea cabinets is completely gone by the time they are installed professionally. Finally, John steps in, and gives us a quote that is not that much more than what it would have cost for us to go the Ikea/​Semi Handmade route, and it is completely custom! We decided to do white shaker cabinets and walnut floating shelves and he provided so much helpful advice throughout the process, including with respect to additional details to help with organization (i.e., lazy susan, spice rack, etc.). We love our kitchen and we have John to thank for it!
John also made custom dining room cabinets/​shelves and master bathroom vanity for us. He is a true craftsman and takes pride in his work. Also, he’s just an all-​around nice guy. Hire him — you will not be disappointed.

We wanted to add a new row of cabinets to our kitchen, along with refacing our existing cabinet doors. We looked around at many different companies and TrueGrain was one of the only ones that offered custom (not pre-​fab) cabinets. John worked with us closely to get exactly what we wanted which ended up not only being much nicer quality, but also at a competitive price.
John built the cabinets off site and installation was done in one, pain free day.

I had a great experience with John/​TrueGrain. I moved into a new home and wanted to extend the existing (new) kitchen cabinets all the way up to the ceiling. I first contacted the original cabinetry installers but decided against using them because they seemed very unreliable in delivering what they promised; it doesn’t matter whether it’s something as simple as returning a phone call or providing a written estimate in the timeline that was promised, when there is no follow through that’s a big red flag for me.
I came across TrueGrain on Unilocal,as I generally prefer to support local small businesses. John was friendly and showed up on time for our estimate appointment. What I wanted was fairly straightforward, and he provided a written quote that evening. It wasn’t the least expensive estimate that I got, but I thought the pricing was fair and more importantly I was impressed with his professionalism. I chose to go with John’s bid, he came back to take more precise measurements, and it was simply a matter of waiting a few weeks for the new cabinets.
Installation took most of the day, with John and one other worker. Again, both were friendly and respectful, and actually took time to take off shoes at the door, not trek dirt in the house, and actually clean up after themselves. I like to keep a clean house, which John seemed to respect and appreciate – he said that he likes to keep his office/​workshop the same way!
Overall, very happy with my cabinets and would use John again for another project in the future.

John and his super friendly & totally pro crew (which included his shop teacher from high school!) just installed cabinets for our kitchen and laundry. They could not have done a better job. We wanted to keep with the quality and vintage look of our 1926 Spanish house and they matched perfectly with modern day conveniences like self-​closing drawers and pull-​out pantries. When a drawer wasn’t opening smoothly, they came out the next day to tweak. This is the kind of craftsmanship and service that deserves true shout-​outs.

Very fair and professional work. This is high-​end quality at a reasonable cost. John is willing to work with you from design to completion. During the design stage he is able to give you options so that the cost of your project will match your budget. The work he did for me was fast and exactly what I wanted for a price I couldn’t say no to. I would recommend him to anyone.
