Burlingame Museum of Pez Memorabilia

I love quirky museums that are labors of love and even better if they’ve been put together in a fun an interesting way. The Pez Museum ticks all those boxes. For only $ 3 adult (kids free) you can spend 20 minutes listening to the history of pez and admire all the different heads as well as a bunch of old toys including a display of toys that were deemed too dangerous and discontinued (vials of radiation anyone??). Really cool to look into the past and also see the range (hobbit collection, star trek collection) of pez figurines. My favorite was the creature from the black lagoon. They even have a few signed by stars like Carrie Fisher for the Princess Leia one.
The owner said it was the most interesting thing to see in Burlingame and I’d have to agree.

The Pez museum in Burlingame is quaint and cute.
It’s actually pretty close to the airport so if someone is a serious Pez aficionado it’s doable to Über it and back on a layover. If you are into Pez you’d get a kick out of it, not only is it a museum but a store selling Pez candy which seems bigger than the museum. The museum part does not take that much time at all. The owner takes you on a tour about 10 minutes and talks about the different collections of Pez and other toys.
I learned that Pez is an Austrian company that started the candy with a peppermint flavor (Pfefferminze in German) which got shortened hence Pez was born. He also told us that the founder of EBay started EBay because his wife was a huge Pez collector and wanted a better was to buy and sell Pez dispensers.
While the website claims that they have every Pez dispenser ever sold, I feel like they would have to had had a much bigger space to make that happen, it didn’t seem that big enough as it was to included absolutely everything. They had some exhibits as well like the games that were banned which was interesting.
The street has metered parking which only takes coins which is annoying this day in age with ample credit card meters but you won’t be there too long. There is a nice bench on South street (the street if you make a right after the museum) which has a picnic bench if you wanted to have lunch afterwards which looks on to the train tracks.
All in all this is more if you really like Pez, like kitsch, or live in Burlingame and are shopping in the area.

Technically, this is a 7-​star review, per my 5-​year-​old. This is the first time he insisted that our typical 5-​star scale was insufficient. Indeed, his happiness at the Pez Museum was the definition of «a kid in a candy store.»
The owner is as nice as could be. After he gave us the tour, he answered our questions and humored our stories as if it were the first time he’d heard any of it. The collection is absolutely delightful — especially the banned toys. All of the displays brought back such joyful memories from childhood that I might have actually enjoyed it even more than my kid.
What a treasure for the Bay Area!

What a fun museum and a great way to spend time with your kid. The collection is amazing and the owner is a great tour guide because you can feel his passion for Pez. It was fun seeing, and hearing about the banned toys. Highly recommended! There are toys you will never see again in you life, especially the original Legos.

I’m not a Pez collector, but this place is a «must see»!! Definitely pay the cheap admission to the museum and get the owner’s fab tour

If you’re a fan of PEZ or dangerous toys of the last century a little known must see in the Bay Area. More of a private collection gone wild than a museum, the owner is a wealth of information and what can make a visit worth while.

This place is great if you love Pez… This place is bad if you are claustrophobic. If you want the history of Pez, there is the Pez Visitor Center in Orange, Connecticut. All the Pez displays are in one small room. They are cute, but when it gets crowded it gets crowed. It is combined with really old rare toys that got discontinued. That was kind of cool. There is a gift shop as you enter, if you want to buy Pez you should go there, otherwise its not really worth a long trip just to see this.

This place is a hole in the wall but it’s definitely a cool one! I brought my children here without knowing what to expect. They are a little too young to find any of it interesting, but I liked it. I learned a lot about the candy and it was fun to see all the different dispensers ever made. Go check this place out if you have the time!

Super bummed out about this place! The chronicle advertised that the museum was open today with free admission, we were visiting Oakland, and thought why not go out of our way and check it out. And it was closed! No sign on the door, no info on the website or by phone. Wanted to see this place since I was a kid, as I am also a collector.

It was Advertised this museum would be open January 1^st, 2015 (10am — 6pm). And admission was to be FREE. I get there with my family and they were CLOSED! There’s no sign on front door saying they were closed for New Years. Their answering machine does not specify they are closed for New Years Day. It totally contradicts their advertisement in
. I encountered several other couples and families that were also upset. Some traveling so far away and only in town for today.

Burlingame is a small city located right below the San Francisco airport and is the home of a most unusual museum, The Burlingame Museum of PEZ Memorabilia. Housed in a fairly small retail shop, this attraction shows the history of PEZ from it’s early beginnings to the development of character dispensers to the most current PEZ offerings. They also house the world’s largest PEZ dispenser. The owner, Gary Doss is a walking encyclopedia of PEZ information and will walk you through the displays and discuss their significance. He is the ultimate collector who says he has an example of every PEZ dispenser ever made in his collection.
The $ 3.00 admission includes the PEZ collection, the Banned Toy collection and the Classic Toy collection. This is not a huge museum but rather the back room of a retail shop that specializes in primarily PEZ and Lego offerings. But it is still worth the $ 3 admission to meet the ultimate PEZ collector who has realized the ultimate dream of any collector– to display their collection to the public and make some money too.
A fun visit when in the South Bay Area, a mandatory stop for any PEZ collector.

It had been my friend’s life-​long dream to go the Burlingame Museum of Pez Memorabilia, so we stopped on our way back from SFO. The building actually holds three museums in one: the Burlingame Museum of Pez Memorabilia, the Classic Toys Museum, and the Banned Toys Museum. It’s smaller than you would think, consisting of one man’s Pez collection in the back behind a curtain, while the front serves as a storefront to sell Pez and assorted other toys. He claims to have one of every Pez ever made, and it sure looks like it. He gives personal guided tours and includes history, fun facts, and can answer almost any question you have about Pez and Pez history. Whether you’re a Pez collector or just passing through town, check out the Burlingame Museum of Pez Memorabilia.

For the ultimate pez collector! If you only can stop at one place, this is it. Limited editions and retired sets available. As well as a great Pez Toy Museum tracking the life of Pez dispensers and the candy — as well as other iconic toys throughout history.
The addition of Lego has added another dimension to this already cool establishment. Whether you are a novice or serious collector, this museum/​shop/​information center is a great way to spend a few minutes to several hours exploring toys and adding to your collection!
We always find a limited edition or retired piece to add to the collection when we are here. Located in Burlingame in the 200 block of California, this little shop/​museum holds the Guinness world record for most Pez in a single collection.
As well, the owner is a walking information center when it comes to the origins of this toy as well as other rare, banned and obscure toys. Worth the stop.

Cute place. We enjoyed the different Pez dispensers from the past. It’s always fun to reminisce of the different popular cartoons when we were kids. (ie. Bugs Bunny, Casper.) The owner is a super friendly guy and extremely knowledgeable. You can tell Pez is his passion. Worth the effort to go if you have a few bucks, time on your hands, and want a good conversation about Pez.

We came to Burlingame specifically to visit the Pez Museum. After paying $ 3, we received a personal tour of the museum from the friendly curator Gary. I learned a lot about Pez history and Gary answered all my questions. I loved how I could see every Pez dispenser ever made, especially the very first one.
There are supposedly three museums here: the Pez museum, the toy museum, and the banned toy museum. The problem is they are all in one room. The Pez museum comprises about 2 out of the 4 walls, and the two toy museums the final wall. The museum was much smaller than I expected.
It was cool to see an original Easy Bake Oven, I didn’t know they were originally designed to bake pretzels. Apparently you had to supply your own potato for the first Mr. Potato Head. Don’t forget to check out the world’s largest Pez dispenser.
If you’re a Pez collector, you are in heaven. Lots of stuff for sale. They had plenty of Lego figurines for sale too. I picked up some Pez candy on my way out the door.

This place is amazing! I am a collector myself and understand so much of the sentimental and historic value of all that’s in this museum.
The first thing you will notice about the museum is that it’s pretty small. There is not a whole lot of space but in my opinion, that is the charm. Once you enter the front door, you will be in the gift shop area where you can purchase some Pez items or other memorabilia. You have the option then to pay $ 3 to enter the second room which is the museum along with a guided tour. You will see a wide collection of the Pez items from all over the decades. I believe there is an example of ALL the different kinds there are. THAT’S NOT ALL! You will get to check out some toys from the various decades as well! Included are some that have been banned! The gentleman who runs the museum is a very nice guy and obviously has a passion for what he does. I truly appreciated it.
Who would of thunk that I would learn so much from a Pez museum! I highly recommend you dropping by to check it out and grab some food nearby afterward! Next time I come here, I will bring a date =)

Pretty amazing the amount of Pez in this place. The owner provided GREAT knowledge. I’m not the biggest fan of PEZ, but my in laws are for sure.

First things first, Burlingame parking isn’t wonderful. Each of their ‘public’ lots require cash. None of the meters take plastic. So, if you don’t want to be annoyed, tired and frustrated after driving around for an hour trying to find a single #$%ing parking spot when you walk into this place. So remember bring cash to park your car.
This place is tiny, but it’s full of fun, and some great information. From the looks of it, it was once a store, and then the owner re-​purposed into a little museum. Entry from the PEZ store into the musum-​part was three dollars. That gets you a very informative tour by the owner. He’s a really nice nice guy. His tour lasted about ten minutes, and then I wandered the room and took some photographs for another ten or fifteen.
I picked up several interesting tid-​bits I learned on the tour. The giant trading website, E-​bay began its life as a pez-​dispenser trading website for the CEO’s wife, who was an avid pez collector. All ViewMaster reels are the same size. A ViewMaster reel from 1939 (when they first started out) will still fit into a ViewMaster made today. In addition to PEZ dispensers, there was a collection of banned toys. My personal favorite of that collection was the ‘atomic energy laboratory’ which was sold in 1951. It even came with pieces of Uranium-​bearing ore samples.
The PEZ store has a multitude of dispensers for sale. They’ve even got some older collections for sale. I could have spent much more, but I ended up costing about twenty bucks on postcards, pez dispensers and candy for people back home. During the period of the visit, my plans for the rest of the day came up. The guy drew me a map to the nearest BART station, and even researched their hours so I wouldn’t be stranded in San Francisco.
I highly recommend visiting the PEZ Museum. It’s a fun place, run by a really nice guy, very interesting stuff.

Located in a tiny retail space on a non-​descript row of stores, don’t be fooled — the Pez Museum is definitely worth checking out! No, it’s not what you would typically expect when you hear the word «museum,» but it has a charm all its own and I hope this place is around for years to come!
The owners are so sweet and they have the tour down pat. They will share with you some interesting factoids and funny stories about all things Pez. Even if you’re not a fan of Pez (I personally don’t like the taste and I can’t remember the last time I bought a dispenser), there’s a lot to love about this place. I especially like the «forbidden toys» taken off the market :)
Learn about Pez everything, see some amazing autographs and memorabilis from celebrities, and yes, you can even see what the very first Easy Bake Oven looked like from the 1950s. THAT ALONE was a huge highlight for me! :)

Tiny. Cramped. Different from all the other museums I have ever been to.
When I hear the word «museum» I think of a GIGANTIC building with wall-​to-​wall filled artifacts. Instead, I got a small 2 room building which was fine. Less walking right? Stepping in, you’re immediately placed in the gift shop. The gift shop itself was nice and pleasant. I have never seen so many different pez dispensers before and this was such a treat! The dispensers go from the regular size to a large one (I’m sure I saw a Barbie one!).
My friends and I came here on a free day (1^st Thursday of each month) and was immediately greeted by the owner? Worker? Manager? Either way, the man was nice and gave us a short introduction to the museum. He answered all our questions and even explained how PEZ got its name along with other facts about the other pez dispensers.
Overall this isn’t your regular average day museum. In fact, this might have be my favorite. It’s short and to the point and it brings that nostalgic feeling into your mind. Learn about PEZ and afterward go buy one. They’re affordable and I’m sure they’ll put a smile to your face.
