Comparing the experience I had in Ann Taylor in San mateo, the experience I had in J crew is so much better. The returning online order is fast and the people who helped me for my return is friendly and respectful.

The staff here is SO kind and willing to help find sizes and different styles. I typically go to the Stanford location but I will try to make it here more often!

I made an appointment here recently for men’s suiting. To my surprise, I was actually assisted by the store manager and she was fantastic! Admittedly, I’m typically skeptical of a woman’s take on men’s suiting but she proved my preconceptions were dead wrong here! The staff were all very friendly, the store was super-​clean, and the manager made sure I didn’t walk out with ill-​fitting dress shirts or the wrong suit style. I bought 1 navy suit, 1 replacement grey slacks, and 3 dress shirts. The clothes are expensive but it’s J.Crew. You get the quality you paid for. It was a refreshing experience and really helped me get all the formal wear I’d need for my work. Best part: unlike the SF suiting location, this one is easy to get to and not as hectic.

This is a very small J. Crew located in Burlingame. They have men’s, women’s, and kids but they should really expand the store so that each section has more stuff.
I think J. Crew is quite expensive when not on sale. However I was left uninspired by their sale section here, it felt very skimpy.

Looking for something for a git and the staff there helped me find what i needed. Surprisingly an asian gal coz in other stores Chinese arent that accommodating but here, it was.

Unfortunately this is the closest J Crew to me or else I’d go shop else where. Burlingame is a nice quaint place to shop, if your a tall blonde, deck out in lulu lemon. If not, you get ignored or judged the moment you walk into ANY department store on Burlingame Ave. Every time I’ve walked into this J Crew this older (50+yrs) man that works there always looks at me up and down like I don’t belong then asks if I need help. What? Never seen a Latin girl buying J Crew before?! I usually say no since I know my way around this store. He continues to help other customers. Once he sees that I’ve got bundle of clothes I want try on he asks in a super annoyed tone «you need a dressing room?» Well duh!
When he notices that I’m putting down the 8 items that I’ve tried on, ready to be checked out that’s when this judgmental employe decides to ask if everything went well and wishes me the best day ever. He needs to get it straight and not forget that this Latin girl is BUYING and he’s WORKING. Ok?

Bad CS. I called to place 2 sweaters on hold for trying on for size. The item was over 100.00, not cheap. When I got there my name was on a tag w/​instructions that there should have been 2 sizes held for me… the sales girl could have given a hoot that there was only one and said they probably «needed» the other one. Well, I «needed» it for trying on! I had even offered to pre pay for one of them over the phone???
The young lady just SHRUGGED her shoulders and POINTED to where the sweaters were located in the store and said to check OVER THERE for other sizes and colors. No taking me to them or any sort of concern about this issue of held merchandise which was less than a 24 hour hold. And other colors??? Don’t even get me started.
I think J Crew has the utmost of quality and style when it comes to their clothing but the staff is LESS than stylized.
Maybe J Crew’s philosophy should take some advice from an earlier experience at a retail establishment I had that day. I needed to return a Coach clutch after the zipper broke. I am a loyal, continuous customer with this brand and have been for 25 years.
Coach not only took back the bag for repair, I also had the option to replace it with a new clutch! Now that is a class act supported by a great product…

This jcrew always is kind of hit or miss. Either you walk away with a purchase or you go home because they don’t have a size available or something is out of stock or their store didn’t get some item in.
The service: very hit or miss (and we all know what this means).
Sale items (since we all love a good deal): super limited and not much choose from unlike other stores.

I’m not one to complain, but I felt a need to bring this particular issue at this specific J. Crew Burlingame store to light. My experience was isolated to a single individual who happened to be a young asian male retail employee working in the men’s section.
The story goes like this:
As he walked by without acknowledgement (which I don’t mind nowadays since this is becoming commonplace in stores, especially when a customer looks as if they’re not from the area), I simply said, politely (really) «Excuse me. I have a question.»
In which the male employee turns around, looks at me, and approaches without any sort of expression or word. Standing directly in front of me, I then say «Um, okay, I have a question regarding a suit.»
Still, no answer but a blank expression.
I then proceed to ask «I wanted to see if you have this particular suit in stock?» And finally I get an answer! «The only suits we have are the light blue and grey suits you see here.»
Which is funny. Because I’m standing directly in front of a store sign that says «If we don’t have the Ludlow suit you’re looking for, we can assist you in ordering it.»
And I finally say, «Well, you can order a suit that you don’t have in-​store, correct?»
It’s at this point where I’ve given up in all of mankind, turn my back, and walk away. As I proceed to round the tables of folded clothes, I look at this retail associate, and he continues to stare directly at me, following my every move as I continue browsing. At this point, I shake my head, feel like I’m no longer welcome in this PUBLIC RETAIL ESTABLISHMENT, and walk out the front door.
Now I understand people may be having a bad day, or they just simply don’t like their job, or they have prejudices based on previous experiences. But for Heaven’s sake, if you work in retail, YOUR JOB IS CUSTOMER SERVICE. A little politeness goes along way.
A little background:
I love J. Crew and the brand. Especially with what they’re doing with all the traditional materials and modern cuts of clothes for men. But given this single incident, I feel I no longer want to shop here. Which is unfortunate because I spend thousands of dollar’s on J. Crew’s clothes, and this one negative experience is veering me to spend my money for fashion elsewhere. Bummer.
Side note: My good friend with whom I spent the day with purchased a shirt from here. The same employee helped him at the register, to where he took the shirt, rolled it into a ball, and stuffed it in the bag (literally). It seems I wasn’t the only one getting the special treatment.

I love jcrew clothing and I am always looking to buy their stuff but this store is just wayyyy too small. very small selection here

They only care about you when you’re buying something big.
I was purchasing a cardigan and a coin purse, when I asked for a newer version of the coin purse to be brought out from their stock room. There was a guy who asked if I needed help and I asked him for the said purse, and he promised me that he’d help me out after attending to another customer (of whom was buying a lot of things). I waited for 15 – 20 minutes, whilst browsing the rest of the store, and every time he passed-​by me, he would even bother to mention «just one more minute». Fed-​up, by the time he brought out the purses, I told him that I wasn’t interested in them anymore. Unfortunately, when the cashier asked for the name of the sales person who helped me out, as I proceeded to pay for the cardigan, I gave the sales person’s name but did not complain about him. I just gave him points for nothing, therefore I decided to write this review, in order to balance it out.
This is the first of two times that I’ve received POOR service from J.Crew. I buy most of my clothes online, but occasionally, I sneak a peek at J. Crew’s stores (even if the bulk of my clothing originates from a different brand) every now-​and-​then, but with the few experiences that I’ve had with J. Crew, that have turned me off so much, I refuse to purchase anything from them ever again. They simply entertain folks who buy a load of clothing. Yknow what? I should just go in there, take a number of clothes into the fitting room to make it look like I’m trying them out, when I’m only purchasing one of them. Now THAT will attract them to serve me, while at the same time, inconveniencing them because now they have to return all the clothes I took from the racks, to «try on» when truly I am just using them as a means of bait to help me out.
So for those of you planning to visit ANY J. Crew stores, beware of the risk of POOR SERVICE for such a «high end» brand. «High end» brand with no class. Disgusting. They are simply pretentious employees who pick-​and-​choose who to offer their help to.

I’ve come here on multiple occasions looking for sport coats and ties. They are friendly here and always offer to check if another j. crew has what I’m looking for. During Xmas there are long lines, and today they are still lines for returns.

Customer service at its worst.
After receiving a pair of pajama pants and a tshirt in the wrong size for Christmas, I popped into my local JCrew for what I assumed would be a simple return. Apparently, I was wrong. After seeing that the pajama pants I had were out of stock, I picked up the same pair in a different color. Ditto on the shirt. I approached the cash register where I was informed that there would be a $ 30 price difference. Why? Because the items were in a different color than the ones I received. In order to exchange them, I would have to find them in the same color. The sales associate would not call other stores in the area as they do not provide that service when the matter at hand is a return.
I’m not an idiot. I have a pretty firm grasp on the concept of capitalism and balance sheets. I’m also a fairly pleasant person to have an exchange with. So when a long time customer who has spent tens of thousands of dollars at that store wants to exchange a pair of pajama pants shouldn’t there be some logic involved in letting that happen? The manager, Margaret, audibly sighed and rolled her eyes during this exchange.
After disappointing interactions with other team members in the last few months, I’m over it. JCrew card has been cancelled. Pants and top were returned. And letter to corporate has been sent.

I’ve been shopping here for a LONG time and all of the employees are usually super sweet, nice and helpful. I’m not sure if Ivy is still there but she always remembered me everytime I walked in and would be sure to pick out cute items from the sale rack that she thought I would like. I was here last weekend and had a HORRIBLE experience! I was pretty apalled since I never had a bad shopping experience at this location.
I went to the dressing room, stepped into an open dressing room that had some crumpled up sweaters on a bench, therefore I thought this was a vacant dressing room. As I was undressing, a MALE employee pounded on the door and said «THIS DRESSING ROOM IS BEING USED». There was no sign that stated that this dressing room was «occupied». So I responded and said «Sorry, I didn’t know that» and he said «Well, can you at least give me the clothes back?» so I responded and said «Can you at least let me put some pants on?».
It is exteremely rude is it for a MALE employee to pound on your dressing room door when you are half naked knowing that he as a key to open your door at any moment. He treated me as if I committed a crime by stealing another customer’s dressing room. Despite this, I still purchased my merchandise but I should have left empty handed!

Seems like a solid J.Crew. More selection four women. I get creeped out by the staff staring at me in such a small setting trying to help me out more than I need. Sometimes really need time to browse without interruption and a staff telling me what looks good on me.

Although I have never actually been in this store, it happened to be the only J Crew in the Bay Area with the correct size for my wedding dress, so I ended up ordering it through here. I dealt with Mitch through the whole ordeal, and he was very communicative and prompt with returning phone calls. He also congratulated me upon my wedding the first time we spoke, which is more of a fuss than the actual bridal consultant at the SF store made over me during my appointment. So as far as customer service is concerned, no complaints.

Giving up on this location.
I’ve been to this store about 10 times now and each time there is a completely different staff. Not a good sign. The staff never seems to be busy yet they never seem to be helping any of the customers. A strange vibe. I was also given some misinformation regarding returns that was later clarified by a visit to the Palo Alto location.
I would recommend shopping online before visiting this store, better yet visit the San Francisco store as their customer service is exceptional and their personal shoppers are very helpful. Palo Alto offers a slightly better experience than Burlingame.

Now that I am investing (slowly) in a professional wardrobe, J Crew is where I find more than just my classic, dark wash matchsticks and ankle skinnies.
I just hated myself briefly for the last part of that sentence. But whatever. J Crew is now my home for pencil skirts and blazers, merino sweaters and boyfriend button-​ups.
Remember– 10% off with your student ID! And unlike some J Crews, this one has Women’s, Men’s, and Kids stuff! Relatedly, if you are dressing your child in J Crew stuff, you either have way too much money or a credit card addiction or both, and I’d instead invite you to divert your funds toward my profesh wardrobe. ;-)
Who knew that my fashionless self would be ever consumed by this trendy yet classy little gem of a women’s apparel store? Here on Burlingame Avenue, you are given prompt attention, escorted to clean dressing rooms, checked on, brought different sizes, and given honest opinions. I mean, we all love being *told* we look great in white stretchy jeans, but the fact of the matter is, that I don’t, and the guys at this J Crew would never lead me to believe otherwise. For that, I thank you.

Ugh! This business is just as bad with service, if not WORSE.
The review below this one outlines what is wrong with the two J. Crew’s at Burlingame Ave. and at Stanford Shopping Center, but if it is one thing the Stanford location has that BA doesn’t, it’s style.
I walked in with my dad, and we walked around for a few minutes. I could clearly see staff just hanging around, and I clearly looked like I needed help. Even if I didn’t, what the fuck man? You should be asking anyway! I told my friend who works at another location and she was dumbfounded that your manager would let you guys get away with that.
At least your service could have been offset to a 2-​star review if you had great styles — they were all terrible. I didn’t want to buy ANYTHING from the store, even if I did get any help. How bad is it that you take a store I will buy practically all the things from, and make it so I won’t? Seriously?
Shame on you, Burlingame Ave. J.Crew. According to my dad, who has been shopping along the Ave for longer than you’ve been a storefront, you’ve never had a really great style/​selection anyway. Maybe it’s time you take a class, and while you’re at it, on how to treat your customers.

2) J. Crew aka genius. Innovative styles. They’re nothing compared to a Gap & BR — trust me I’ve worked at the corporate offices at Gap Inc. Go Mickey Drexler! I give this company credit for reinventing themselves to becoming unique from all the other chain retail stores.
3) I’ve only experienced great customer service here. Maybe because I’m a regular, they’re friendly but either way all the staff are helpful & fabulous.
4) Prices are high but most likely it will go on sale. If you’re willing to stick it out & take a chance — do it.
Don’t hate! What’s not to love.
