Julian Martin Entertainment – Mobile DJ Entertainment

Thanks DJ Julian, Badz and Sean for the beautiful wedding experience. We met them at my wife’s sisters wedding and we were so impressed that we decided to someday use their services when we get married. Fast forward to 2 years later, we hired them! One of the best decisions we made!

We used Julian Martin Entertainment for our wedding in November 2012. Overall, they were great, entertaining and well organized. The team worked with us continuously from the moment we booked them to the day of. They are a great team to hire especially if you need to find someone to entertain a crowd that spoke majority Cantonese. They were there to guide us of timing and gave us advice on how to make the night go smoothly. They had great sound systems! They were there early to set up before the party started. Everyone at our party was thrilled with the entertainment and of how smoothly the night went. Julian was always quick to respond back to any questions and concerns. He definitely took care of everything and made it stress free for us.

We needed a DJ/​emcee who could offer a Cantonese and English speaking emcee, and Julian Martin the only vendor available that I could find (not speaking Cantonese myself) that offered a Cantonese emcee and who was available. There are Cantonese emcees available, but they’re English isn’t always ideal.
Our meetings leading up to the wedding were good. Julian mentioned several times that he had worked at our reception facility before, and that he would be sure to set up the sound system such that everyone could hear what was going on. Before the wedding he contacted us with a very detailed schedule for the reception events and had us choose songs for all the events.
Our team consisted of Julian, Badz, Ryan and the Cantonese emcee. Music was playing when we arrived, and we started on time.
Before the father/​daughter dance, Ryan said that they were going to have the groom’s father cut in. I vetoed this idea — not something that was discussed before, not something that I wanted.
Near the beginning of the reception, Ryan announced he had a surprise from JME and then proceeded to serenade us with «I swear» by All-​4-​one? We strongly dislike that cheesy song. We didn’t request a serenade. It wasn’t a pleasant surprise for us.
At the meeting two weeks prior to the reception, we informed JME that we wanted to play a video prepared by our videographer in addition to a slideshow with audio. Julian insisted we use his sound equipment for the audio, because he was concerned that the house audio would not be sufficient. Julian informed us beforehand that he wasn’t the right person to operate the laptop, so we had one of our technically savvy groomsmen take charge of the presentations. It didn’t take long to get the in-​house projector working, but there wasn’t any sound. After a few minutes, the groom also went back to help troubleshoot. Long story short: the groomsman, the groom, and JME never got the audio output that JME provided to work on the laptop. Eventually the restaurant manager came in to setup the house speakers, which worked beautifully. It was 10 — 15 minutes of troubleshooting during the middle of the reception (involving the groom and a groomsman) that could have been tested beforehand by JME with a simple iPod, a smart phone, or a computer.
After the video, we had discussed having a second round of speeches, instead of a second game. We preferred speeches to the games. After the speeches, Ryan came over and told us we were running 40 minutes late after those «unexpected» speeches. This annoyed me. We were running late because of the serenade and the audio debacle, it had nothing to do with the speeches — the speeches replaced the game. The point of working out these details (speeches instead of optional game) ahead of time is so that we don’t have these conversations constantly during the event.
After a rushed and hectic table toasting, we rushed onto the bouquet toss. I specifically requested a song so that I wouldn’t have to hear that song by Beyonce, «All the single ladies». Guess what was played? I stood there, motioning to cut that song with an angry scowl on my face. And then, they started playing it again! I hate that song, and they ended up playing about 25 seconds only of the song I chose for that event. Again, why did I specify a song preference
two weeks ago if it was ignore the day of the event?
Finally we were through all the events, and the dancing portion of the evening started. Things didn’t end at 10 pm according to our schedule. We had a deadline to be out of the restaurant at 11pm, and they continued to play music after we asked them to stop. Eventually they got around to playing a «last song» after a second request to stop the music, and then, after that, they played the last song my husband and I had requested.
The evening could have gone a lot better. The sound was not sufficient in the back of the restaurant, so our guests sitting outside of the main room had no idea what was going on. The Cantonese emcee only spoke at the beginning and then didn’t do any additional emcee-​ing. Not to mention, I didn’t appreciate the last minute suggestions/​changes — what’s the point of the meeting two weeks ahead of time if not to work out these details?
In summary, I feel that the audio issue with the video could have been preventable. There was not good scheduling/​time management (save the surprise serenade for the end-​cut it if you run out of time). The reception was fine; but it could have gone a lot better with better time management and pre-​reception trouble-​shooting. The way I see it, the more that I am aware of what the vendor is doing and the issues that are coming up the poorer the execution.

Our wedding reception would not have been as entertaining and memorable without the help of Julian Martin and his awesome crew (Badz, Ryan, and Mariel)! Like most brides, I was completely stressed out with all the wedding details, so I was especially pleased with the professionalism JM and his crew exerted.
Julian and Badz were tremendous help with the planning and they were always on time (if not, early!) to our meetings. Their music selection was wonderful and catered to all age groups. The young AND the older guests all got up and danced! My husband thought that Julian really went above and beyond. JME took great care of us and our guests and I did not have to worry about anything at all. That’s saying A LOT as I’m the type of bride that worries about everything: P

Julian, Badz and Ryan … totally awsome! Badz played all the songs that we requested and Ryan was so funny. Ryan sang a song for us and totally made all of our guests moved to the dance floor and start dancing. Julian was also awsome, he helped me with my timeline and on the day of my wedding … EVERYTHING WAS ON SCHEDULE! NO DELAYS AT ALL!!! That’s 10 stars! After the wedding, a lof of my guests came and asked about Julian Martin Entertainment. Great people, great team work, and great job! I’m very lucky I found them!

Julian was the DJ at our wedding last August. He did a PHENOMENAL job! He kept the party dancing the entire night! Even people who don’t normally dance were up and dancing. He is highly organized and goes through everything you need to know before the big day so you have nothing to worry about at all. He is professional, dresses in a tux for his events, and really knows how to judge the crowd and play music accordingly. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking for a DJ. and when I need another DJ, I will only call Julian. Thanks again!

The hubby and I first learned of Julian Martin Entertainment through a wedding planner/​friend of ours Carol O. She recommended him beacuse we were looking for an MC with English & Cantonese abilities.
Julian was quick to respond to my initial inquiry and was extremely friendly and professional. On our first meeting, he injured his leg the night before but still kept his appointment with us. He was very knowledgeable about the wedding traditions of both Chinese and Filipino cultures. He gave us some timeline worksheets (that were extremely helpful) as well as other worksheets for family introductions, song requests, etc.
On the day of, he was at the venue, set up, dressed in his tux, and ready to go by the time we arrived (5 pm but the reception didn’t start until 6pm). I was a bit apprehensive about the reception – that our Chinese guests would make a mad dash for the door immediately after the food – but thanks to Julian and Alan and their timing of everything, eveyone stayed and EVEN got out on the dance floor. The dance floor was PACKED… there was overflow on the surrounding carpet area.
I even heard from the Mother In Law that even guests who never dance, got out on the dance floor. Wow!
We had an amazing reception thanks to Julian and Alan. He was witty, had a great sense of what would get the crowd going, and was extremely professional. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Julian Martin Entertainment for all your party/​event entertaiment needs.
