The Cakery

In my previous review, I cited major miscommunication between the Cakery and me. They were responsive and apologetic, and made everything right again! I did eventually pick up my cake, which was delicious. I highly recommend this shop for their customer service.

I have been buying their world famous chocolate angel cake for decades. It is the only cake I would consider for my birthday or any special holiday. Of course they have a huge assortment of cookies, cakes and their bear claws are outstanding. There are lots of bakeries on burlingame ave. Give this one a try.

I came in the week before my wedding and requested a cake similar to a design I saw on Pinterest, and it turned out beautiful! I couldn’t have ask for anything more! Thank you for making the dream real with a delicious cake!

Delightful assortment of baked goods — from cookies to cakes and everything in between, the Cakery can basically service your every need. They also have great pre-​assembled cookie trays and arrangements, making it super easy to get the perfect treat for a friend or a perfect gift for any holiday.
Most recently, the Mother’s Day assortments they had were absolutely adorable and perfectly affordable at various price points.
I haven’t actually purchased anything here for a larger event, so I can’t really speak for their catering service, but I’d imagine they would be professional and do the trick.
I wish I was in the area more so I could come more often and try some more of their fresh baked goods, but it’s probably best on the waistline that I frequent every once in a while and observe from afar!

They did our wedding cake and although they had issues at the beginning they did everything to accommodate and make sure we got what they had promised. I worked with a manager named Barie I think, I may have spelled that wrong, but she really did her best to resolve any issues with the original design they had promised us. We ended up being very impressed with our cake and it tasted great. Thank you for your excellent customer service.

Many bakeries told us they were booked and we were ordering too late for our wedding in Oct 2015. We still had 2 months left and I was surprised bakeries were turning me down. The Cakery was one that was still open so we decided to go with it. During our tasting, the cake was dry (figured it was because it’s day old cake). The buttercream was really delicious so we went with it. We ended up ordering two kinds (white + strawberry and buttercream; devil’s food + raspberry cream). It was AMAZING! The wedding cake wasn’t dry at all like the tasting since it was fresh!
Kayla was helping us with our order and she made sure to capture all the details. To save money, we went with the standard décor and asked if they could decorate with the flowers + ribbon that we provided. They did so with no additional costs. The cake tasted amazing and I was really sad to find the hotel «accidentally» threw out the leftovers. Maybe it was so good one of the employees took it home. I’ve been craving more ever since my wedding and will need to find an excuse to buy another cake.
I am very impressed with the service and quality of this bakery for reasonable prices. I will recommend this to all my friends. It was the best buttercream I have ever had.

Love this bakery the best because they can make anything, and make it deliciously! Not many bakeries are willing or able to do that.
They also make special seasonal items that are old world European and came to our world via Blum’s of San Francisco a lifetime ago. That is, hot cross buns, almond macaroons, and Lebkuchen. Enjoy them every time you can.

We used the cakery for our wedding cake, part of a package from our reception venue.
The good: We worked primarily with Kayla, she was a fun to work with and very enthusiastic. They were really flexible with multiple cake tastings, we had 3 tastings before confirming flavors. The cake was moist and very good.
The bad: There was a little bit of a disconnect between what we discussed and the final product. We had pictures printed on the fondant — we asked for black and white, they were printed in color which wouldn’t have been a problem except there was a green tinge. We asked for some scrolling in a certain design and provided pictures, but the finished product was visually inadequate. We had a double happiness design on the cake that was supposed to be red because it’s good luck, it was painted gold instead.

Call in your cake order a day ahead or early on the day of if you are looking for something in particular, just in case, since this is a family run bakery. I called in my order the morning of, which was also a great time saver since they had my boxes ready when I got there, and I basically just had to pay. We tried:
–Swedish Princess Cake (
): I loved the whipped cream in this cake, and the texture of the custard was really good, but I didn’t like the slight taste of alcohol in the custard. That threw off the other flavors, which were very mild. However, I liked that the sponge cake layer was moist and fluffy, and it wasn’t too sweet– I wonder if I can call a few days ahead next time to request they not add alcohol to this cake. If that is possible, I would definitely get this again.
–Chocolate Mousse Pastry: Yum– we liked this one more than the princess cake since it had more sweetness to it. The cake layer was nice and fluffy, and the mousse very creamy. It wasn’t the super rich chocolate-​y tasting type of cake, but a more subtle chocolate cake. Recommended!
–Combination Danish Ring (
): I loved that this danish ring had a variety of different fruit fillings (pineapple, cherry, blueberry, apple, peach, cheese) so there was something for everyone. It was flaky and not too sweet, and I’m sure it would have tasted even better if we had a chance to toast it quickly. Recommended!
Overall, we enjoyed most of the items we tried from here, and hope to be back to try more items in the future! My only complaint is that not all of their items have signs/​prices, so I had to keep asking their staff questions, and their service is also pretty slow. Parking can be difficult since there are limited street parking spots, and all the ones on Burlingame Ave are metered.

I have tried one of their cakes and it was delicious! Therefore, I went to store to try something more but then the customer service was so awful that I had to leave.
There were a few seats inside so I waited a couple of minutes because I saw some people were about to live. I was about to sit with the other three persons I came with (one of them disable) but then one person working there grabbed the chair to give it to another customer (an Asian young woman with expensive accessories but no taste Lol) without even telling (or better asking) us. I was so incredulous! Omigod, they completely ignored us and if it were not for one of us (one of the persons who came with me went to the counter and talk to the other person working there and told her about the awful behavior of her coworker), they would not even looked at us! Shame! You can keep your cakes! :(

Been here a few times, each time, very satisfied. I have gotten to the strawberry shortcake each time. It’s moist and delicious. Not too sweet. Whipped cream and fresh strawberries. They also have all kinds of cakes, cupcakes, eclairs, cookies.
Called them 2pm Christmas Eve and they had one more strawberry shortcake left! It was only 6″ but of course I’d take it. The staff was super nice and let me reserve it on the phone!
Highly recommend getting the strawberry shortcake. It’s amazing!

Every October, we celebrate several birthdays and family gatherings.
As usual, I ordered cakes from Cakery. To everyone’s surprise, it were some disappointed experience. Strawberry short cake was very wet without any fuffyness, filling was too heavy (because the wet cream) that smashed the cake, exterior whipped cream was dense, the appearance of the whole cake looked collapsed, and the taste was way off their usual standard. I also picked up a pumpkin scone which tasted like compressed sand papers.
Last, their wonderful services was discounted a great deal.
I am not sure if I should give them another chance next time. I do know that I will not recommend Cakery to anyone else at this time.

Rich, creamy cakes that can be pre-​ordered or you can swing by the day of.
Small round w/​message was $ 23.75. Good deal. Our double chocolate mousse was luscious albeit heavy. Made for extreme chocolate lovers.

When I first entered the store, an older lady was helping another customer and then kind of ignored me when she was finished so I waited patiently for help. Fortunately it wasn’t too long of a wait, a younger brunette took my order for a custom cake for my gender reveal party. I wanted a bakery to make the cake because I didn’t know the gender of my baby either, it was going to be a complete surprise for everyone.
I ordered a 8″ round with whipped, vanilla cake, butter-​cream filling, and used their generic design. I was a bit disappointed that the color (pink or blue) would be in the the filling only, I wanted to have the color in the actual cake (but i called around a few places and they only the did the filling too). I was further disappointed when I found out the color could only be done in buttercream. My family is not a fan of butter-​cream and I try to avoid it when I can, so that’s why I ordered the whipped cream topping. I paid for the cake that day. They held on to the order slip.
When my husband picked up the cake, they asked him to pay again but he told them that I already paid. When I opened the box, I knew immediately that it was not whipped cream! It was cute, so I cannot complain about that. It served it’s purpose but we didn’t even finish the cake. Like I mentioned earlier, my family did not like the buttercream and the cake was really dry.

The Cakery did an outstanding job on our wonderful wedding cake. We came in with some specific ideas and they created it perfectly.
Your staff worked with us to find the perfect combination of flavors and even let us come back a second time to get it just right! We went with the Devils food cake/​chocolate truffle and red velvet/​chocolate truffle, 12″/8″/6″ for our 75 guests and it worked out perfect.
We brought them flowers that were being used in our bouquets and they incorporated them into the cake perfectly. Thank you so much for taking care of us and making our day even more perfect!

One word: ECLAIRES!!!
They have delicious eclaires! Have the ones that are filled with both whipped cream and pudding, you’ll thank me later. The perfect amount of sweetness, the perfect crust and chocolate dipping make their eclaires heavenly. It’s realy hard to pass by it and not go and stuff my face with everything they have.

Ordered last minute cake from here — service-​wise and the ease with which they handled it was impeccable! I really, really appreciated their quick service and attention to detail and the finish was great.
The cake itself flavor-​wise didn’t do it for me. I asked for Dulce De Leche as an internal layer and maybe I should have opted for fruit. Regardless, this was a really good customer service experience!

I really liked the cupcakes here; they had a lot of frosting and the cake was not oily. This bake shop is located in downtown burlingame. Staff are friendly and prices are reasonable (2.75 for each cupcake). Overall, not the best I’ve had but I’d definitely return for dessert!

I hadn’t heard about this bakery until they were a vendor at Unilocal’s Springtime Spectacular event. I try to always be in the know when it comes to good bakeries and pastry shops in the are, I obviously have not been keeping up. The Cakery just so happens to be located in Downtown Burlingame on Burlingame Avenue, not too far from where I work which can be both a good and a bad thing lol. They make a slew of pastries such as:

*Danishes
*Scones
*Various Breads
They also specialize in custom cakes for weddings, birthdays, baby showers and etc. They do sell cake by the slice as well, with Strawberry Shortcake and Swedish Princess Cake being their most popular. The real stars of the bakery based on my tastes are their cupcakes, they are the absolute best. At the event they had a full cupcake bar available along with a few other desserts. There were about 4 – 5 flavors to choose from which was hard because I wanted them all (I’m a sucker for cupcakes, it’s sad lol).
I decided to try 3 flavors which is a fair enough amount to judge them. I chose their Red Velvet, Vanilla and Dulce De Leche. I loved that the cupcakes had a nice thick layer of frosting because that’s really the best part. Red Velvet was very moist and yummy, it had an amazing cream cheese frosting that took my breath away. The Vanilla cupcakes was good and moist as well, tasted like your standard Vanilla cupcake but with a nice fluffy vanilla bean frosting. And last but not least the Dulce De Leche cupcake, tasted like it was a brown sugar based cake, light and airy. The frosting was to die for, very sweet, caramel notes in every bite, this was by far my fav of the three.
I will be making it a point to visit this bakery one for more of those delicious cupcakes that made me fall in love with them and second to try their cakes and other pastries. Two thumbs up! Must try if you are in the Burlingame area, you won’t be disappointed.

My girlfriend had her birthday cake made here and it tasted AMAZING! She had a two tiered, red velvet, mini wedding cake replica created and it was simple yet elegant! The red velvet was moist, the cream cheese filling was not overly sweet-​just perfect, and the fondant had a nice semi-​soft consistency and, again, wasn’t overly sweet! The cake was literally GONE by the end of the night! I even spotted a few guests indulging in SECONDS due to the fact it wasn’t overly sweet/​rich so no one was left with that «sick» feeling finishing their first slice!
The cake held its own as well and lasted all night long! She had kept it on display, as the centerpiece on a table, and it held its shape/​integrity for almost four PLUS hours! Definitely a MUST TRY when in Burlingame! The only downside? It’s EXPENSIVE… BUT, you get what you pay for! :)
